WillHynson

It’s been an eventful fall for Will Hynson.

The junior running back/defensive back at Section 1 (NY) football power Rye has helped the Garnets jump out to a 4-0 start.

But in between wins No. 3 and 4, the running back, who is also a standout in lacrosse as a two-way midfielder, decided on his college destination, verbally committing to High Point, a decision first reported by Joe Lombardi on LaxLessons.com’s Lacrosse Insider premium coverage section.

The 5-foot-11, 165-pound lefty combines skills and athleticism in all three sports he plays (he’s also a member of Rye’s hockey team).

He’s also a team captain for both the Rye lacrosse team and Predators travel squad and an outstanding student with a grade average of 94.

Hynson’s brother, Cal, who played lacrosse and hockey at Rye (earning all-state in hockey), is a sophomore attackman on the lacrosse team at St. Lawrence University.

What were the main factors in your decision?
The coaching staff and the atmosphere of the campus

What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
Vermont and Marist.

Have you decided what academic major you plan to pursue?
No.

What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?
I would say I’m a hard worker, good down-the-alley dodger, and solid on defense.

whynsontweetWhat area of your game do you need to work on?
Right hand or stick skills.

How did you get introduced to lacrosse?
My brother got me into lacrosse. He was playing long before me and I thought it looked fun, so I tried it and loved it.

What travel team do you play on what showcase events did you participate in?
I play for the Westchester Predators under Mike McCall and Mike Solazzo.

I went to Maverik Showtime, Baltimore Summer Kickoff, and Super Sophs

Any final thoughts and people you want to thank for helping you reach this point?
I would like to thank my parents for always bringing me to my games and practices no matter the time and thank Mike McCall for teaching me the game from sixth grade until now and (Rye varsity coach) Brian Dooley for being a great coach and pointing out key things that will get me to the next level.
