Michigan just added another big commit to an already strong 2018 class and it comes from outside the Northeast.

St. Anne’s-Belfield (VA) standout Javon Johnson has verballed to the Wolverines, a decision reported by Joe Lombardi on LaxLessons.com’s Lacrosse Insider premium coverage section.

The 5-foot-6, 150-pound Johnson, a righty from Charlotte (NC), is an athletic dodger with tremendous skills and agility.

He is also an outstanding student who has a 3.0 GPA.

Recruiting abstractNow, here’s a Q&A with Javon on his commitment.

What were the main factors in your decision?
I chose Michigan because of the great opportunities that the university had to offer.

The great education and the academic support was a huge factor as well. The coaching staff was great, and what they plan to do with the program was exactly what I was looking for.

What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
UVa, Loyola and some Ivy league schools.

jjohnsontweetHave you decided what academic major you plan to pursue?
Undecided.

What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?
I’m a quick guy, so I play fast. I always look for that “one more pass.”

What area of your game do you need to work on?
Right now I am looking to improve my consistency in my game and my IQ.

What travel team do you play on what showcase events did you participate in?
Dukes LC, Road Warriors.

I participated in Maverick Showtime, and the Adrenaline Black Card.

Any final thoughts and people you want to thank for helping you reach this point?
I first want to start out by thanking my parents for all that they have done for me.

I also want to thank all of my coaches that have helped me grow as a player.

I want to thank coach Ebe and Christmas Duke’s LC. Also coach Burnam and coach DC Road Warriors.

Thanks to Coach Perriello and the entire STAB community.
