Jack Casella 2015

If there’s one word that best describes Jack Casella on the lacrosse field it’s this: Versatile.

There are few things the well-rounded Class of 2016 midfielder from Fordham Prep (NY) can’t do — and do well.

So it should come as no surprise that after one more season with the Rams, Casella will be headed to the Division I level. He verbally committed last week to Sacred Heart University, a decision first reported by Joe Lombardi on LaxLessons.com’s Lacrosse Insider premium coverage section.

The 5-foot-10, 175-pound righty becomes SHU’s third 2016 tristate verbal.

recruiting_updateNow, here’s a Q&A with Jack on his commitment.

What were the main factors in your decision?
I chose Sacred Heart because of the great reputation of their Jack Welch Business School and the state of the art business building that was just completed. I plan to major in Finance. I believe in (Sacred Heart Head) Coach (Jon) Basti’s passion for the game and the type of player he wants to attract to his program.

What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
During the process I also considered Le Moyne, Denison, Ohio Wesleyan, Catholic and Scranton. I visited Le Moyne, Denison and Ohio Wesleyan.

What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?
One of my strengths is the ability to see the whole field. I also consider myself a throw-back two-way  midfielder. I can play offense, defense, do a faceoff, or play on the wing.

jcasellatweetWhat area of your game do you need to work on?
Shooting on the run with my left hand.

How did you get introduced to lacrosse and what other sports have you played?
My older brother Matt, who just finished playing at St. Michael’s College, started in fifth grade and I started playing right after that. I also play football for Fordham Prep.

What travel team do you play on what showcase events did you participate in?
I play for Prime Time and have attended Inside Lacrosse Recruiting Invitational, King of the Hill, MVP, and the Adrenaline Platinum Cup Invitation.  I have also attended the Prep School Showcase and Blue Chip 225.

Any final thoughts and people you want to thank for helping you reach this point?
I would like to thank my parents for all their sacrifices and running around.

I would also like to thank Nick Daniello for the opportunity to play with a great organization like Prime Time and all the coaches at Prime Time.

I also want to thank my Fordham Prep coaches, Chris Hemsley and Ryan Gorup, for helping me develop as a player and a young man.
