Yorktown enjoyed a return to glory this past spring, winning its seventh New York state title and first since 2003.

But the Huskers lost three All-Americans — attackman Connor Vercruyssse (Rutgers), midfielder Luke Palmadesso (Villanova) and defenseman Austin Fusco (Syracuse) — from the team that beat Jamesville-DeWitt 10-9 in the title game at Hofstra.

How does Yorktown look entering 2015?

mdedvukajactionFor more, we turn to one of the area’s top attackman/midfielders, Michael Dedvukaj, pictured at left, who is coming off a 36-goal season.

Dedvukaj has signed with Monmouth University.

Here are Michael’s perspectives on the upcoming season.

What have you been doing to get ready for the season?
I have been working on my off hand, lifting and and running  trying to get in the best shape possible to have an successful season this year because its going to be 10x harder to repeat for a state championship.

How does your schedule look, what games are you looking forward to most, and who are some of your scrimmages against?
Our schedule is different from past years because we only play four out-of-section games instead of nine because Section 1 is making every league team play each other twice so that limits us to play the top tier programs around the country.

Our top games this year that will be fun to play in are Ward Melville, Chaminade and Darien. Those three teams are some of the top programs around and definitely will be a test for us. We also scrimmage Iona Prep and Don Bosco that should also get us ready for the season.

playerperspectiveWhat players on your team do you think will surprise some people this season?
We have a lot of young talent on our team this year. I think some people are going to be Jose Boyer a very fast and physical LSM he could basically lock down anyone and he’s very fun to watch.

Another player is Justin Cavallo, who played on our team as a freshman he is bound to have a big year this year. He’s a very big lefty attackman and can finish from just about anywhere.

And finally, Tyler Makar, a junior take away defenseman who was pulled up for the playoffs last year, should have a great season. These people will be a big surprise for some teams.

What do you think the strength of your team will be this year?
Our strength this year will be our defense all  six of our guys work so well together and we have our outstanding goalie in Liam Donnelly theyre defiantly our biggest stength and thats what we need to win a championship come june.

How do you view the race in your league and who do you think some of the contending teams will be?
You’re always going to get the John Jays and Somers competing for a section championship and knowing that we play both of these teams twice in the regular season makes it that much harder to beat them come the playoffs.
