St. Dominic’s has remained a consistent presence in the CHSAA (NY) title chase the last three years, finishing a combined 33-16 over the span.

For a look at the 2016 Bayhawks we turn to Brad Baker.

An all-CHSAA selection, Baker, a junior attackman/midfielder, finished first on Long Island in assists and second in totals points last spring.

Baker, a Smithtown native who is strong with either hand, verbally committed to the admissions process at Holy Cross.

playerperspectiveNow, here are Brad’s perspectives on the season.

What have you been doing to get ready for the season?
This winter I have been training with a really talented group of guys on Sundays with a great coach.

I have been lifting and doing a lot of wall ball as well. Our team has gotten together numerous times in the last three months to prepare for the season.

How does your schedule look, what games are you looking forward to most, and who are some of your scrimmages against?
I am looking forward to scrimmaging Friends Academy. Our regular-season schedule is tough as always. We have big games vs Chaminade, St Anthony’s and Iona Prep along with our CSHAA (AA) opponents.

What players on your team do you think will surprise some people this season?
I think our goalies are going to surprise people this year. We have a great tandem of John Defeo and John Dispigna.

We will be solid in goal.  John Dagher (LSM) and John Quinn (attack) will also be vital to our success.

What do you think the strength of your team will be this year?
We are strong on offense and defense.

Our offense will return almost all starters with myself, Liam McAuliffe, JJ Alicea, Jack Pucci and Grant Galligan. We expect to put up a lot of points, like we did last year.

I think we will be tough to defend because there is talent everywhere you look.  Defensively we are anchored by Pat Kiernan and Ryan Poole.  They are both great players.

How do you view the race in your league and who do you think some of the contending teams will be?
We expect to contend for the downstate Catholic AA title this year. Iona Prep will be tough, as will SJB, but we are confident with our group and feel we have the pieces to win it all.
