Yorktown was thisclose to making it back to the New York State Clas B championship game in 2015.

The Huskers, who took the 2014 championship with a one-goal win over Jamesville-DeWitt, lost to Manhasset 9-8 in the state semis on a controversial final-second goal.

For a look at the 2016 Huskers, we turn to one of the top Class of 2017 defenders in the nation, Jose Boyer, who is bound for Notre Dame, which has become a perennial Final Four participant but which has not had a player from Yorktown on its roster during head coach Kevin Corrigan’s 27-year tenure.

In fact, Boyer is the first male athlete in any sport to commit to Notre Dame in Yorktown’s long and successful varsity sports history, according to a report by Joe Lombardi on LaxLessons.com’s Lacrosse Insider premium coverage section when Boyer committed this past August.

The 5-foot-10, 175-pound Boyer is physically strong and has outstanding speed and stamina. An aggressive and athletic player, Boyer, who also plays LSM, is a groundball machine who excels in transition.

Now, here are Jose’s perspectives on the upcoming season.

What have you been doing to get ready for the season?
My teammates and I have been hitting the wall as often as possible. We’ve also been playing in the gym and lifting as a team.

How does your schedule look, what games are you looking forward to most, and who are some of your scrimmages against?
We’re scrimmaging Bergen Catholic.

Our schedule this year is full of great teams from all over the tristate. From Connecticut, we play Darien, Ridgefield, and Wilton. From Long Island we play Ward Melville, Chaminade and St.Anthony’s.

We also play two teams from outside the tristate, Cathedral Catholic (California) and Saint Mary’s (Maryland). Along with those games, our Section 1 schedule will be very competitive this year.

What players on your team do you think will surprise some people this season?
We return a lot of players this season. Dom Cioffi, Jamison Embury, Nick Sanfardino and Steven Veteri are four players that will really make an impact on the offensive end of the field. Brandon Meyreles, and Joe Brancato will be key contributors on the defensive side.

What do you think the strength of your team will be this year?
The strength of our team this year will be our defense. We return many defensive players that have great varsity lacrosse experience. Our entire team has great chemistry and we’ll need that to play against some of the best teams in the country.

How do you view the race in your league and who do you think some of the contending teams will be?
Section 1 will be very competitive this year. Every team brings back a lot of talent which should make every game very interesting. As always,  John Jay will be a very talented team along with teams like Pelham and Somers.
