In his verse, “If,” the poet Rudyard Kipling outlined qualities that make a boy become a man.

His very first was this: “If you can keep your head when all about you  are losing theirs and blaming it on you.”

That’s an attribute that’s especially essential for a goaltender.

Meet St. Augustine Prep (NJ) sophomore Luke Russamanno.

Russamanno is a strong stopper, especially on tough-to-save low shots, who is also effective on clears.

But when asked for his strengths as a player, he starts with something else.

“Keeping  calm in stressful situations,” he said.

That ability should serve him well at the next level. He will spend it at Ohio State University after committing to the Buckeyes earlier this week, a decision first reported when it was made by Joe Lombardi on LaxLessons.com’s Lacrosse Insider premium coverage section.

The 5-foot-11, 180-pound Russamanno, a righty, is also an outstanding position goalie. You can watch his highlight reel here.
