High School Scoreboard, Friday, 5/16

This was supposed to be a huge day of action in the nation’s most competitive conference from top to bottom, Suffolk (NY) Class A, but we’ll have to wait till Monday. An appeal by West Islip protesting a call in its 6-5 double-overtime loss to Sachem North earlier this week wound up being denied by Section 11, but the delay in scheduling a hearing resulted in Saturday’s scheduled games being moved to Monday as those who followed developments as they occurred on our Lacrosse Insider premium coverage section know.

Suffolk will get things going in Class B today.

LL2014HSGAMEDAYTop-seeded Rocky Point hosts Elwood-John Glenn at 2 p.m.. The winner of that one plays either defending Class C champion Shoreham-Wading River (which moved up to Class B), the No. 5 seed, or fourth-seeded Sayville in the semis. The first faceoff for SWR and Sayville is also at 2 p.m.

On the other side of the bracket, third-seeded Huntington hosts No. 6 Comsewogue at 5 p.m. and defending champ Miller Place, the No. 2 seed, hosts seventh-seeded Islip at 2 p.m.

Section 1 (NY) will have its field of semifinalists set after Saturday’s quarterfinals. The semis are set for Tuesday on the home fields of the higher seeds. Here’s a class-by-class look at today’s quarterfinal schedule:

Class A

No. 8 Scarsdale at No. 1 Lakeland/Panas, 1 p.m.
No. 5 Suffern at No. 4 Fox Lane, 10 a.m.

No. 6 Clarkstown South at No. 3 North Rockland, 1 p.m.
No. 7 Mahopac at No. 2 Mamaroneck , 7 p.m.

Class B

No. 8 John Jay at No. 1 Yorktown, 1 p.m.
No. 13 Harrison at No. 12 Sleepy Hollow, 3 p.m.

No. 14 Pelham at No. 6 Byram Hills, noon
No. 7 Greeley at No. 2 Somers, 1 p.m.

Class C

No. 8 Irvington at No. 1 Pleasantville, 11 a.m.
No. 5 Croton-Harmon at No. 4 Putnam Valley, 1 p.m.

No. 11 North Salem at No. 3 Briarcliff, 12:30 p.m.
No. 7 Nanuet at No. 2 Bronxville, 2 p.m.

It may have no meaning for postseason seeding, but it will be interesting nevertheless as two of the nation’s top programs, Delbarton (NJ) and Chaminade (NY), meet at 1 p.m.

Four of the top programs in Connecticut will be paired off against one another as unbeaten Darien (14-0) visits Ridgefield (12-2) in a 1 p.m. game at Tiger Hollow Stadium and New Canaan (12-3) hosts Fairfield Prep (9-4) at 3 p.m. New Canaan will be marking its 40th varsity season in ceremonies at Dunning Stadium.
