The first full week of games involving all three states in NY/NJ/CT couldn’t have gotten off to a more exciting start on Monday.

That’s because the downstate showdown that was much hyped in this space did not disappoint as John Jay pulled out a 17-16 OT win at Smithtown East with Jackson Rieger getting the game-winner. The Binghamton University-bound Rieger, a senior attackman, had an astonishing six goals and seven assists. Could it be our player of the week was clinched in the first day of games? Stay tuned.

John Jay, of course, is a Section 1 power and today, there are no shortage of interesting games in that section, which includes Westchester, Putnam, Rockland and Dutchess counties.
