If you’re a Lacrosse Insider, Friday’s announcement by Dominican College in Orangeburg, NY hardly came as a surprise.

Almost a full month ago, on Sept. 2, we told you Dominican had hired formers Somers High School (NY) coach Lew Janavey as an assistant.

Now, here’s the official announcement, released today.

Orangeburg, N.Y. (9/26/14)  Dominican College head men’s lacrosse coach Marcelo Sandoval has announced that Lew Janavey has been added to the men’s lacrosse staff as an associate head coach.

Janavey has more than 25 years of successful lacrosse coaching experience. He comes to Dominican College after serving six years as the boys varsity head coach at perennial powerhouse Somers NY High School. During his tenure at Somers, he guided the Tuskers to three sectional finals, including the Section 1 championship in 2009.

Prior to Somers Janavey spent two years helping to start the varsity program at Edgemont NY High School. For the 16 years before that at Lakeland/Panas High School, he served as an assistant varsity coach, defensive coordinator and goalie coach. During his time there, the Rebel’s won an astounding six Section 1 Championships.

Janavey has coached more than 18 HS All-Americans and countless all-section players. He has served on various selection committees for prestigious All-Star Teams and Recruiting Showcases.

Janavey was the 2000 Head Coach of the New York team, in the “New York vs Maryland Challenge.” From 2004 through 2014, he was the Director of the WestRock Lacrosse Club. Additionally, he has seven stints as a coach for the Hudson Valley Empire Team.  In 2012 he was the Silver Medal winning Head Coach in the first year of the Empire State Cup.

For over 20 years Janavey has been a Special Education, Phys. Ed and Health teacher at the Andrus Childrens Center in Yonkers, NY.
