One of the top faceoff specialists on Long Island will be taking his talents to the Midwest.

He’s Northport High School Class of 2017 midfielder Connor Cronin, who gave a verbal commitment to Michigan last month, a decision reported by Joe Lombardi on LaxLessons.com’s Lacrosse Insider premium coverage section.

The 5-foot-10, 170-pound Cronin, an athletic righty who plays for Team 91, enjoyed a strong summer. Among the showcases he competed in was Maverik Showtime.

recruiting_updateNow, here’s a Q&A with Connor on his commitment.

What were the main factors in your decision?
I loved the campus and all of the coaches are great. Also, Michigan’s top academics made it an easy decision for me.

What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
Princeton and some other Big Ten schools.

What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?
As a player, my strengths are definitely athleticism and also my lacrosse IQ

What area of your game do you need to work on?
Everything.

How did you get introduced to lacrosse and what other sports have you played?
When I was younger, my neighborhood friends and I would play pick up sports games. One day, my friend brought over some lacrosse sticks and we all played a game. Ever since that, I fell in love with the game.

Besides lacrosse, I also have played football and I also wrestled.

What travel team do you play on what showcase events did you participate in?
I play on Team 91 Orange. I personally participated in Maverik Showtime, Jake Reed Blue Chip, and also Suffolk Top 20 (Long Island Showcase).

Any final thoughts?
I definitely have to thank my family first off. Next I’d like to thank my face off coach, Matt Schomburg, because without him I really do not think I’d be close to the same player that I am today. And also I’d like to thank (Northport) Coach (George) Searing and (Team 91) Coach (Jim) Mule for their support and guidance.
