* High School Scoreboard Central, Thursday, 4/17

It was quite a Thursday in the varsity lacrosse world.

Three NY vs. MD games were highlighted by two-time NY state champ Garden City’s decisive 13-6 win over St. Paul’s and Bishop Timon St. Jude of Buffalo taking the nation’s consensus No. 1-ranked team, Boys Latin, from the proud and traditional lacrosse home base Baltimore, down to the wire.

LL2014HSGAMEDAYOverall, the favored team won each of the three games between the nation’s No. 1 hotbed for lacrosse, the vibrant New York/New Jersey/Connecticut tristate region, and the proud, traditional homebase for the sport, the Baltimore region.

Also of note, Villanova-bound Sean Cerrone scored with six seconds left in regulation to give Chaminade 14-13 win over Iona Prep 14-13. It was the Flyers’ first lead in the game.

Five-time Massachusetts state champ Medfield upset Long Island power Cold Spring Harbor 12-9.

In two impressive shows of force, Greenwich (4-0) pulled away for an 18-7 win over visiting Wilton in Connecticut and unbeaten Bergen Catholic easily handed Don Bosco Prep 17-6 in New Jersey.

Now, to today.

Upstate New York steals the spotlight on a very light Good Friday with a couple of interesting matchups: Canandaigua at Penn Yan and Geneva at Irondequoit. In Connecticut, Avon visits Suffield and Ellington hosts Granby.

Beyond the tristate, in the nation’s proud and age-old, tradition-rich hotbed of lacrosse of Baltimore, St. Mary’s of Annapolis hosts Gilman (MD).

In a big prep showdown, La Salle (PA) hosts The Hill Academy of Ontario, Canada, and Calfornia powers San Ramon Valley and Foothill-Santa Ana square off.
