* High School Scoreboard, Thursday, 4/16

Before we get to Thursday’s slate, a quick look back at an eventful Wednesday. It started with many in the tristate waking up to a surprise — snow that had accumulated overnight, marking the first time that’s happened in the New York City region in three years.

For the second straight year, John Jay won its Hudson Valley vs. Long Island rivalry game against Manhasset, pulling out a 6-5 triumph at ‘Set as Nick Kells scored in transition off a steal in the closing seconds. (Check back for video highlights.)

There were also some thrilling overtime affairs. Among them: Somerville (NJ) defeated New Providence in a battle of unbeatens, Rocky Point beat Suffolk (NY) rival Shoreham-Wading River, South Side defeated Port Washington in Nassau (NY) and Kent beat Loomis Chaffee in Connecticut. Check Wednesday’s scores here.

LL2014HSGAMEDAYNow, to Thursday’s action.

Three New York powers play teams from the nation’s proud and tradition-rich Baltimore region to headline the day.

It will be Yorktown (NY) vs. McDonogh (MD) at 7 p.m. at McDonogh’s turf field No. 5, Timon St. Jude (NY) at Boys Latin (MD) at 4 p.m. and Garden City (NY) vs. St. Paul’s (MD) at 6:30 p.m. at Princeton University.

There are also some big Connecticut and New Jersey games on the slate.

In Connecticut, Wilton plays at Greenwich at 6 p.m. at Cardinal Stadium.

In New Jersey, a Don Bosco Prep team highly regarded in the preseason but hit hard by injuries, hosts unbeaten Bergen Catholic in a 2:30 p.m. contest. B.C. was set to play unbeaten Chaminade (N.Y.) on Tuesday, but the game was postponed by the threat of lightning.

There’s a big CHSAA game as Iona Prep hosts Chaminade at 4:30 p.m.
