For many teams, the preseason officially ends on Saturday. And it will end with a bang with some big events and scrimmages set and a few regular-season games as well.

Cold Spring Harbor’s 8-6 win over Syosset earned it a spot in the latest Under Armour/Inside Lacrosse national power rankings, which were released today. CSH checks in at No. 11. Syosset, meanwhile, slipped from No. 5 to No. 13. Other teams in the region moved up in the rankings.

Regional powers Darien and John Jay have been unable to schedule a regular-season meeting the last few years, which is too bad. After all, Darien has captured four straight state titles. John Jay has won four straight Class B championships. Both have been regulars in the national rankings during that time. Today, the teams are […]

Though only a junior, Yorktown’s Kevin Interlicchio not only has his college choice all sewn up (he’ll attend Hopkins), but he’s now a three-year varsity veteran. Kevin Interlicchio has been an impact player for the Yorktown ’Huskers since the first game of his varsity career as a freshman when he had four goals and three assists […]

You can call it the I-95 Showdown. Or not. Anyway, two of the area’s premier programs — Rye and Greenwich — scrimmaged today.

The second annual Lacrosse Day of Championships boys/girls lax games featuring Manhasset’s varsity teams will be available on the Sports Webcasting Network.

To hear Briarcliff coach Al Meola tell it, getting Tim Schurr on his staff was nothing short of a coup. The Bears will have a decidedly different look to them when they take the field in 2009. They lost 13 players to graduation and along with them a lot of the team’s offensive firepower. But […]

The Iona Prep Gaels seem to be waging a never-ending battle for respect throughout the region. The ground is barely thawed but it already seems like it’s business as usual for Rye. If that’s the case, the rest of Section 1 Class C could once again be playing for second. Rye’s season ended rather unceremoniously last June with a 7-1 state semifinal loss to Mount Sinai. The Garnets then lost some […]
