Lakeland/Panas outlasted Yorktown 8-7 in overtime to win the 2010 Class A title in one of the most memorable title games in New York’s Section 1 in recent history.
The Rebels’ postseason run ended with a loss to West Islip in the state semifinals.
The following year, the Rebels made it back to the sectional final, falling to Mahopac.
But the last two years, Lakeland/Panas has found itself in the unfamiliar position of falling short of an appearance in the finals.
That means there’s a large group of Rebel players who have not had the experience of winning a sectional title.
Two of the team’s leading players are focused on doing something about that before heading off to play at the Division I level: Brian Prunty, senior attackman (Siena), and Michael Zingaro, senior goaltender (Manhattan)
