‘Nade is now No. 1.

With the 2012-13 school year about to start, we have been tracking how the leaderboard looks among tristate high school programs with the most rising senior commits.

And Chaminade High School (N.Y.) Flyers has been flying high.

The Flyers have soared to the top spot on our leaderboard with a total of 13 Class of 2013 commits.

Next up, with 11 each, are Chaminade’s CHSAA rival, St. Anthony’s, and New Jersey power Delbarton.

One of Chaminade’s most recent commitments was made by midfielder John “JJ” McDaid.

The 6-foot, 175-pound right-hander has decided to be a part of veteran coach Richie Meade’s newly launched Division I program at Furman.

McDaid, who also plays football, has good size, speed, stick skills and field vision.

Now, here’s a Q&A with JJ on his commitment.

What were the main factors in your decision?
I always wanted my hard work and effort to pay off in the end, and I knew going to Furman will help me develop to be a great man through the experience of Coach (Richie) Meade and being in the Furman atmosphere. The school and facilities are great. The academic reputation of Furman in the south is impressive.

What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
I considered St. John’s, Franklin & Marshall, Rutgers and Canisius and visited all of them.

What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?
My strengths as a player include my vision of the field and ability to feed the open man accurately. My style of play is physical, yet smart. I can draw an extra man and feed to the crease or the open man.

What areas of your game do you think you need to work on?
I believe I need to work on my dodge. I need to find one resourceful dodge that I can use whenever.

Who have been some of the biggest influences on you during your development as a player?
Jack Moran, my coach for Chaminade High School, Coach (Michael) DeMeo, my offensive coach for Chaminade High School, Jamie Allen, my coach for Express over the summer, and my father.

What travel team did you play on and what were some of the big showcase events you participated in last summer?
I played for Express, Team Orange and attended Jake Reed, Tri-State and the Under Armor tryouts.
