anastos

We’ve gone far beyond the nation’s No. 1 hotbed for lacrosse, the New York/New Jersey/Connecticut tristate region, to bring you commitment news the last few days.

From Las Vegas to Florida, in fact.

If you were with us yesterday at Twitter.com/Joe_Lombardi, you learned of a commitment from a location right in between.

Jonathan Anastos, a rising junior goaltender for head coach Tom Herrala’s varsity squad at New Trier High School in Winnetka, Ill., has committed to Lafayette College.

A converted midfielder, Anastos is an aggressive and communicative player who sees the ball well.

recruiting_updateNow, here’s a Q&A with Jonathan on his commitment.

What were the main factors in your decision to commit to Lafayette?
Lafayette provided me the opportunity to play at a school with an outstanding academic reputation in the Patriot League. I feel it will elevate my game not only on the field, but as a well-rounded student-athlete.

I was incredibly impressed with the facilities at Lafayette and in the positive direction that the program is headed under (Lafayette Head) Coach (Jim) Rogalski.

What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
In February, I visited Lafayette, UMass, Yale, Lehigh and Boston University. I had an number of other inquiries from D-I programs, but I did not feel that they would be a good fit for me.

What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?
I see the ball well on the field and I also communicate well with my defense. I strive to demonstrate my role as an aggressive leader.

How did you get introduced to lacrosse and what other sports have you played?
I was introduced to lacrosse through my local school program in third grade. In sixth grade, I had a strong interest in the goalie position and changed from midfield.

Although I also played basketball and football in middle school, I decided to dedicate myself to lacrosse in high school.

What travel team do you play on and what showcase events have you been in and which ones do you plan on attending?
I play for the True Lacrosse 2015 IL state team. In the fall, we played at NSCLA Crab Feast (all-star) and I attended Jake Reed’s Nike Blue Chip. My play was mentioned by Inside Lacrosse. This summer I attended NSCLA, King of the Hill, and will be going to Legacy. I also play in regional tournaments with my high school team.

Good to see D-I talent coming out of Chicago-Land, my former college stomping grounds!
