It’s been a busy stretch for St. Anthony’s (N.Y.).

We shared the story of defender Mike Ruane’s decision to verbal to Quinnipiac yesterday.

Today, we have news of another Division I-bound Friar. He’s one who will remain a Friar at the next level: midfielder Tom Laupus has verbally committed to Providence College, as first reported at Twitter.com/joe_lombaerdi.

Laupus is an athletic midfielder with quick hands who excels in the faceoff X.

recruiting_updateNow, here’s a Q&A with Tom on his commitment.

What were the main factors in your decision?
My visit went extremely well. The coaching staff is extremely knowledgeable, dedicated and have an urgency to win.

(Head) Coach (Chris) Gabrielli, (Assistant) Coach (John) Galloway and (Assistant) Coach (Brett) Holm really made me  feel like home. I really got to know the coaches on a personal level and see what a full day of classes and practice was like at PC. I wanted to play in a competitive conference like the Big East.

What other schools were you considering and what other schools did you visit?
I visited the Naval Academy, Brown, Dartmouth, Loyola, Maryland, Albany and Bucknell. I seriously considered Navy, Brown and Dartmouth.

What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your type of play?
I have extremely quick hands and my ability to not come off the field and be a dominant athletic midfielder. I can shoot on the run lefty or righty very accurately.

What area of your game do you need to work on?
I need to learn more team defense.

How did you get involved to lacrosse and what other sports did you play?
I got into lacrosse in sixth grade when a group of my middle school friends all joined. I used to play a lot of football.

What travel team did you play for last summer and what showcase events did you participate in?
I played for 2014 express orange. I participated in Jake Reed’s Nike Blue Chip, Brine Shootout, Philly Showcase, National Invitational 175, NSCLA.  I was invited also to Project 9.9 and Adrenaline Black Card Showcase.

Any final thoughts?
I would like to thank my parents, all my St Anthony’s and Express coaches who have helped me throughout the way, and thank Mike Chanenchuk, Matt Schomburg from Fogolax and Tommy Kessler.
