There’s been a steady stream of sophomore college commitments we’ve been reporting on the last couple of weeks.

One of them came from the Rochester, N.Y., area — Webster Thomas midfielder Kevin Hill announced his intentions to attend Penn State.

Chalk up another one from a high school just a mile and a half away: Webster Schroeder goaltender Willie Klan, who has opted for Ohio State lacrosse.

An athletic player with strong stick skills, the 6-foot righty is a strong communicator who is effective at running the ball up and igniting fastbreaks.

Now, here’s a Q&A with Willie on his commitment.recruiting_update

What were the main factors in your decision?
I chose Ohio State because of the wide variety of academic opportunities, the great facilities and the Big Ten atmosphere.

(Ohio State Head) Coach (Nick) Myers and his staff showed me what it meant to be a Buckeye.

After my visits, I knew that Ohio State was the school I wanted to attend and play lacrosse at.

What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
Hofstra, Syracuse and North Carolina.

What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?

I describe myself as vocal, athletic and not afraid to run the ball up 50 yards and start transition for my team.

How did you get introduced to lacrosse and what other sports have you played?
I got introduced to the game through Paul Jordan and Rocky Delfino of the Penfield Youth Lacrosse Program in 2005.

Other sports I have played are box lacrosse and football.

Who have been some of the biggest influences on you during your development as a player?
My greatest teacher has been my goalie coach, Dennis Costanza. He has taught me both the physical and mental aspects of being a goalie.

When announced my verbal commitment to Ohio State, Coach said one thing that I will never forget, “Always stay hungry.”

What travel team did you play on and what were some of the big showcase events you participated in last summer?
I play on a club team called SweetLax coached by Kevin Martin and Chris Sweet.

The events that I have participated in are Bucknell Team Camp (all star), Yale Bulldog Champions, Dicks Tournament of Champions finalist U19 Elite Division (Tampa, Fla.).

I will be attending Champ Camp, Maverick Showtime in the summer of 2013.
