Top left: John Jay senior attackman Mike Daniello, clad in a Johns Hopkins sweatshirt, signed a National Letter of Intent to accept a scholarship offer from Hopkins tonight, surrounded by his family (top, from left), brother Nick, mother Kathy and brother Chris. Nick and Chris are former college lax standouts. Nick played at Stevens Tech. Chris played at Syracuse. Bottom left: Daniello, the eighth-ranked senior in the nation by Inside Lacrosse, signs the letter.

As we told you yesterday, the fall signing period is essentially a confirmation of previously reported commitments when it comes to lacrosse.

But the top recruit from the nation’s No. 1 lacrosse hotbed, Hudson Valley/Long Island/Connecticut, had a few agonizing days before finalizing his choice.

Last fall, John Jay attackman Mike Daniello initially committed to the University of North Carolina, as we reported right here. But just a few days later, Daniello had a change of heart, and switched his commitment to Johns Hopkins.

Tonight, Daniello made it official. He is now officially signed and sealed and headed to Johns Hopkins University. Daniello signed his National Letter of Intent tonight — the first day of the week-long fall signing period that ends next Wednesday, Nov. 17, and includes most sports, except football. (The football signing period lasts from Feb. 2, 2011 until April 1, 2011.)

There is now quite a contingent of current Section 1 stars either currently at or heading to Hopkins. Kevin Interlicchio of Yorktown and  Jameson Pickel of John Jay are now freshmen at Hopkins and defender Eddie Schurr of Somers has also signed a NLI to attend JHU this week. Schurr is the son of Daniello’s coach at John Jay, Tim Schurr.

“I’m very excited to be teaming up again with Jameson,” said Daniello, who is ranked eighth among seniors nationally and No. 1 among Hudson Valley/Long Island/Connecticut recruits by Inside Lacrosse. “I’ve played against Eddie and Kevin and I’m looking forward to being teammates with them at Hopkins. All three of them are great players and hopefully we can help bring another national championship to John Hopkins.”
