There have been a handful of regular-season games already played since last Friday — all on Long Island.
Most notably, Sayville edged Connetquot 14-13 and Oceanside outlasted Hewlett 13-11 on Saturday in boys action and Locust Valley pulled away for a 17-4 victory against Bethpage in a girls game.
This week, the regular season begins in earnest, highlighted by the traditional lid-lifter between Garden City and Syosset — the fifth straight year the LI powers have opened the season against one another. That game will be on Tuesday.
In Nassau County today, Mineola visits Glen Cove at 4:15 p.m. and Mepham hosts West Hempstead at 4:30 p.m.
Suffolk County features a pair of games as well: Bayport-Blue Point hosts Longwood at 4 p.m. and Islip visits Lindenhurst at 4:30 p.m.
In interesting scrimmages, Smithtown West hosts Shoreham-Wading River at 3:30 p.m. and defending CHSAA Division AA champ Iona Prep plays at Manhasset at 4:30 p.m.
