Earlier this week, we talked about how Smithtown West’s recruiting class of rising juniors has emerged as one of the best in the tristate region.

The Bulls’ class of rising seniors is pretty noteworthy, too.

One of the most recent additions to that class comes from Pat O’Brien.

A righty attackman, O’Brien has verbally committed to Army.

The 5-foot-9, 155-pound O’Brien is an adept feeder and finisher who sees the field well and dodges well.

“I also visited Michigan, Vermont, Colgate, Marquette, Robert Morris, St. Joseph’s and Sacred Heart.” O’Brien said. I met some great coaches during the recruiting process.”

Other Smithtown West seniors who’ve committed are midfielders Dylan Gruder (UMass), Brian Masi (Sacred Heart) and Joe Varella (Navy).

“During the past year, Coaches Moltisanti, Rotella, LaTouche and Snyder have been influential in the maturation process,” O’Brien said. “I enjoy playing for them and am looking forward to next season at Smithtown West in our quest for a Long Island championship.”

O’Brien first started playing the sport in the third grade.

“The biggest influence throughout my career has been my dad,” O’Brien said. “He was my coach during the days at Smithtown Youth Lacrosse and he entered our teams in many travel tournaments starting in third grade.  Repetition and strong competition have enabled me to develop through the years.”
