Here’s the story. Well, maybe just the first part of it. Somers and John Jay, the two teams that played last June in the Section 1 Class B final, will be meeting for the first time since then, facing off tonight at 7 p.m. in Cross River.

It’s been spreading from coast to coast through all levels of lacrosse. We’re talking about parity, folks. The days of dominant teams rolling past whatever competition comes their way are over just about everywhere. And now, here in the Hudson Valley/Long Island/Connecticut region.

Ran out of an offset 1-2-3 set. A longer play to execute with a fair amount of ball and player movement. Tell your players to keep their heads up because one of the three players cutting off of screens are bound to be open.

The battle for Catholic school supremacy on Long Island has annually been a two-horse race between national powers St. Anthony’s and Chaminade. This season is no different.

An NCAA regular-season record crowd of 25,710 was on hand Saturday as the new Meadowlands Stadium made its debut by hosting the Konica Minolta Big City Classic. Plenty of local players were involved in the three games  that made up the event, including a heavy John Jay presence.
