Does anyone else think that Darien at Niskayuna on Friday night is an absolutely fascinating matchup?

  2. slacrosse says:

    Cuse,

For sure. Know Darien but what did Nisky bring into this season?

  3. Lax Novice says:

Could be, hope so anyway. Nisky sent a scout to watch Darien’s scrimmage with Somers, since both are on the schedule. Now that’s taking your HS lax seriously. I haven’t heard about Darien sending anyone to see Niskayuna in person, probably just breaking down the film from last year’s States.

Syr, any opinion on how the matchup shakes down?

  4. Indian J says:

I do! Very different, yet dominant programs finding each other. Darien to me has always been that skilled team that just out classes you with their potent offense and stick skills. Nisky has that stellar D, athleticism, and coaching. Neither team losses very much- but Im not sure if Darien is back to where they are usually. Last year Darien was not as dominant ( although still tough) so Im sure this will be a battle and very interesting to see. Anyone know anything about Nisky?

  5. Bronco Bob says:

    Danbury 1

  10. BlueWhite says:

    Wilton 16, Trinity Catholic 0

  11. I-95 Lax says:

    Brunswick 11, Taft 10

  12. slacrosse says:

    Bronco Bob,

    Congrats on the win.

But I was actually surprised that Bville had to come from behind to beat Sdale given the quality of Bville inc. their 2 D1 kids? Is Scdale that good? Was everyone playing for Bville, etc??

  13. Patriot Nation says:

    Ward Melville 18, Patchogue-Medford 3

  14. slacrosse says:

    CT People,

W/O PG’s, how does Bwick compete so well vs schools that have PG’s?

I suspect it must be like in Baltimore where I know their top private school league (MIAA) recruits (with scholarships) the best the young talent in youth leagues or in middle school/public school. Bwick must “pick them off” in CT.

  15. slacrosse says:

    CT Fans,

    Staples/Ridgefield tomorrow.

Saw Staples in a scrimmage and was very impressed.

Anyone have any thoughts on them?

  16. ctlax says:

Anyone care to shed some light on New Canaan – Greenwich?

  17. LI Lax says:

    WI 14-2 over Sachem East
    WM 18-3 over Pat-Med
    Smithtown West 15-8 over Lindy
    EI 11-7 over Northport
    Connetquot 11 Middle Country 6
    Lynbrook 12-5 over Farmingdale

  18. JustAFan says:

Ridge vs Staples – on paper should be all tigers. But saw them scrimmage against brunswick – not really sure what i learned. both team slooked sloppy with the ball. Ridge seemed to be working on some specific things, they simply didnt run or exploit some quick slides by brunswick. Ridge got killed on face offs but i dont think their main FO guy was playing. I think if they get green light to run they beat staples by 8 or so. who knows, if staples is really all that improved and Ridge takes em lightly could be interesting.

  19. Sec1 says:

NC just looked better than Greenwich, NC O looked very gd. Greenwich looked like it was their first game, Dunster did nothing But # 2 was very gd. Greenwich did alot of standing around on O. First game new coach will see

  20. slacrosse says:

    Thanx JustAFan.

  21. slacrosse says:

    JustAFan,

Any thoughts on New Fairfield? Rye plays them in a few weeks.

  22. lax watch says:

staples ridgefield was resecheduled, colsey called Staples 2 days ago from what i hear and had a conflict

  23. Joe Lombardi says:

Ridgefield plays at Staples tomorrow at 5:30. Ridgefield had also scheduled Somers for tomorrow, but that’s now been moved to May 17.

I’m not sure as to either why that happened in the first place or why things wound up being remedied so late (this week), but in any case, that’s the deal.

  24. Hudson Valley says:

Perrell from Doherty Game winner for Bingamton over Siena. How bout that feather in the cap for Sect 1!

  25. bob shaw says:

NC @ GHS- GHS looked pretty bad. no flow to offense D watched ball with no sliding. goalie for ghs played okay. GHS had several point blank opportunities and they threw marshmallows.
NC got their confidence going and played okay against a weaker opponent.

  26. gimme a stick says:

Watched Pelham beat Eastchester yesterday 13-7. The game was tied at the half and Pelham just wore down the Eagles in the second half, 3 goal lead after three and the final above. Pelham played a very controlled disciplined offense, never took a shot without a backup and had a couple of very good players. I didn’t have a roster but I was very impressed by #2 a good sized middie who may not have scored but was the best player on the field imho. On close defense #10 and #43 looked good. they also had a sharpshooter who scored a bunch.

For Eastchester the story was Joe Arcidiacono the soph goalie who had at least 20 saves in the first half and better than 30 on the game. Believe it or not Eastchester’s D played well all game but had trouble clearing the ball. Eastchester’s entire D is sophs and got solid play from #1 Nico Martino, #25 AJ Gizzo, and D middie #23 Matt Gendusa. Offensively they needed some patience if for no other reason than to let the d rest a bit. Dave Masi #24 had 5 for Eagles Bryan Young #6 had the other two.

Two athletic teams, but Pelham again just wore them down. The youth of Eastchester is going to be the killer but they will continue to improve and will be in every game this season.

  27. Iceman says:

Regarding the Nisky vs. Darien matchup.

Niskayuna has a fleet of goodyear blimps that circle the skies of Schenectady, NY until the order is given for them to decend upon their respective games to film.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Nisky taped Darien’s JV practice to see who is coming up for next years game.

  28. JustAFan says:

    slacrosse,
In regards to N Fairfield, sorry cant help you there. havent seen them yet.

In regards to Brunswick, I don’t know specifics as if to they are activley picking best kids off in the area. Best guess is that Fairfield county filled with type A’s with money. If playing at Bwick gives you college recruiting lift vs playing at Darien, Gwich or Rye, then parents have money to do it. Bwick very popular school now for moneyed folks in the area. seems they are trying to build sports powerhouses, heard they are ramping up hockey effort as we speak, with parents of young hockey players falling over selves to get kids in. This is all 3rd hand so dont flame me out there if i am wrong. They play in better conference than Fairfield Prep so they get ‘prep school’ cache with day school benefits. Fairfield Prep plays in an odd ‘league’. would love to hear opinion of somebody who actually knows something.

  29. Cardslax says:

Wick is for stuffy waspy people. They had one of the best teams in the region last year and nobody talked about them. Kids go there to wear a shirt and tie to school and be a part of the old boys club like their daddy was. Recruiting at Darien Greenwich and the other Fairfield public schools is much better.

  30. slacrosse says:

    JustAFan,

Thanx. Yeah, Bwk seems to have both a very strong athletic and academic reputation.

Luckily for Rye, dont think they have lost too many kids at all to Rye Country Day (RCD very good school for sure), or Bwick. RCD’s two best lacrosse players last season (Dartmouth/Cornell) lived in Harrison, I believe.

Seems like Rye’s losses over the yrs have mainly been by kids going to boarding school.

  31. Indian J says:

Not a nice comment about “Wick”. Its an expensive school. Yes. Aren’t Greenwich, New Canaan, Darien, Wilton and Staples pretty wealthy, white, anglo-saxon protestant towns for the most part? With a few Catholic millionaires sprinkled about? Who cares? I love those places. They are awesome at lacrosse too so ..

  32. sec1 says:

Mamaroneck beat Sleepy Hollow 12-2. They’re a legit team.
