If you want to know why High Impact Lacrosse has continued to grow as it starts its fifth year as a program, look no further than the coaches.

Not only have High Impact’s coaches played at the highest level of lacrosse, but they are professional educators that can teach the game to the developing lacrosse players.

Drew Werney just finished his sixth year as the head varsity coach at Irvington High School, where he was named Rivertowns Enterprise coach of the year in 2014 and has led the Bulldogs to six straight winning seasons.

Werney, who coached the Poland National team in the FIL World Games this July, was an attackman/midfielder at Somers High School. Werney, who then played Division I lacrosse at Stony Brook University, has a  Masters degree in physical education.

Jordan Levine, the head coach at Mercy College, guides High Impact’s varsity and junior varsity players through the recruiting process.

Levine was a three-time, first-team America East selection for the University at Albany, where he was a USILA All-America second-team selection.

After being selected in the first round by the New Jersey Pride, he went on to play five seasons in the MLL.

Werney and Levine are joined on the coaching staff by two other full-time teachers who are head coaches at varsity programs on the rise in Southern Westchester: Mike Solazzo of Pelham High School and Brian Violante of New Rochelle High School.

Other coaches in the High Impact program include several other current or former collegiate players: Eddie Schurr (Johns Hopkins), Alex Corpolongo (Stony Brook), Mike Bonitatibus (Loyola), Brian Prestreau (Penn State) and Matt Dalton (Springfield).

High Impact’s travel teams practice between New Rochelle High School and Mercy College’s beautiful facility along the Hudson River.

Be sure to check back for info on High Impact’s upcoming fall clinic, which will feature two of the leading Division I players in recent years: John Ranagan and Jordan Wolf.

High Impact will be holding team tryouts on Sunday, Sept. 7. For more on the tryouts,  and on High Impact Lacrosse, visit highimpactlacrosse.com.
