Ben Parens has had a change of heart.

The Sleepy Hollow High School (N.Y.) 2014 standout verbally committed earlier this week to Connecticut College after decommitting from Clark University.

Parens, one of the top midfielders in Section 1, is the latest recruiting coup for the Camels, who recently reeled in Friends Academy midfielder Brandon Yaraghi.

Parens, a 5-foot-9, 160-pound righty, is a hard-nosed and aggressive player who thrives in the possession gain, getting groundballs as well as winning faceoffs. His decision to commit to Connecticut College was first reported by Joe Lombardi on LaxLessons.com’s Lacrosse Insider premium coverage section.

recruiting_updateNow, here’s a Q&A with Ben on his commitment.

What are your thoughts on joining the Connecticut College program?
I am excited to be a part of such a dynamic class. I believe that Connecticut College is one of the strongest if not the strongest team in the NESCAC and I am excited to be a part of the program and contribute to winning seasons in the future.

Why did you decide to decommit from Clark?
I would first like to thank Jeff Cohen and his coaching staff at Clark. He is an amazing coach and I appreciate the time he toook to work with me. I did not feel that Clark was a good social fit for me. Every piece needed to fit and although the lacrosse piece did, not everything else did.

What other colleges, in addition to Connecticut College, were you looking at?
After I decomitted, I was strongly considering Washington College, Ithaca, Franklin & Marshall, and, of course, Connecticut College.

When did you visit Conn College and how did that go?
I visited Connecticut College today (Tuesday, Oct. 22) and it was amazing. It was the most beautiful campus I have ever been on along with the prime location. (Connecticut College Head) Coach (Dave) Cornell and (Connecticut College Assistant) Coach (Vince) Redko made me feel right at home.
