It was a big weekend for recruiting news.

If you were with us on our Lacrosse Insider special coverage section, you know that the first Class of 2017 verbal commitment was made on Sunday afternoon. We’ll have more on that report coming here soon.

Today, we focus on a verbal commitment made back in the middle of the month.

PJ Brown, an agile and athletic Class of 2015 midfielder from defending New York Class C state champion Cazenovia, has verballed to Loyola, as reported by Joe Lombardi on Lacrosse Insider.

The 5-foot-11, 170-pound righty sees the  field well, is a good passer, and can contribute as both an offensive and a defensive player.

“I like to play a fast game with lots of transition,” he said.

Brown plays for the United Lacrosse. You can watch his highlight reel here.

He is Loyola’s second 2015 commit from upstate New York, joining Richie Easterly of Westhill, an attackman.

recruiting_updateNow, here’s a Q&A with PJ on his commitment.

What were the main factors in your decision?
I really enjoyed Loyola during my visits to the campus. Loyola has great academics, a great atmosphere and a great network of alumni.

What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
I made visits to Syracuse, Bucknell, Colgate and Cornell.  I seriously considered Syracuse.

What area of your game do you need to work on?
My off-hand shooting and overall strength.

How did you get introduced to lacrosse and what other sports have you played?
I started playing lacrosse when I was in second grade. Cazenovia had a strong youth program and a lot of my friends played. During my high school career, I have also played basketball and soccer.

What travel team do you play on what showcase events did you participate in?
During the Summer and Fall, I had great experiences playing on Team United for Ric Beardsley and Steve Carcaterra. I played in the Maverick Showtime showcase event last summer.

Any final thoughts?
I would like to thank my youth and high school coaches (Brian Willard, Dave Falge and Jim Longo) and the Team United coaches (Ric and Steve).
