With the  high school season now complete, we can once again refocus on recruiting commitments.

As we told you last week on Twitter, we have our latest major commitment.

John Jay junior midfielder Tommy Beck has given a verbal commitment to attend Rutgers University.

Beck will join two Section 1 standouts who just completed their senior season at coach Brian Brecht’s Scarlet Knights program: All-America goaltender Kris Alleyne of Clarkstown South and defenseman Eric Cooley of Yorktown.

“Rutgers was the last school I visited, and after meeting with Coach Brecht I knew it was the place I wanted to be,” Beck said. “The coaching staff followed up with letters and appearances at my games and made me feel as if I was part of their family.”

The 5-11, 160-pound Beck also visited Albany, UMass and Fairfield. He also considered Hartford and Marquette.

Beck is an athletic two-way middie who excels in unsettled situations.

“My strengths as a player is my transition game as well as my lacrosse IQ,” he said. “I also like to get the assist just as much as I would like to score.”

Beck will once again be playing with the Prime Time travel team this summer.

“When I started in youth lacrosse, Sunho Lee pushed me to be a better player,” Beck said. “The Daniello family has also been there for me, ranging from working out at the turf to setting up college visits. From the first day of practice freshman year, (John Jay) Coach (Tim) Schurr has helped me take my abilities to the next level.”
