There’s one problem with what is a stacked Saturday of big games from the morning through the evening.

Where do we start?

How about chronologically, with 10 a.m. games between Hicksville and host Baldwin and visiting Smithtown East and Northport.

At 10:30 a.m., there’s a nice matchup between defending Class A state champ Farmingdale and the team that may be the favorite to unseat the Dalers as Nassau County champs, host Massapequa.

A half hour later, Connecticut’s Joel Barlow travels to the Island for a crossover against Wantagh.

Then there’s a noon showdown between two of the top teams in the most competitive league around — Ward Melville at West Islip — square off at high noon at WI.

At 1 p.m., Manhasset plays at Chaminade in the fifth annual Reg’s Rock “Lead the Way Lacrosse Day of Heroes.”

The event was launched as a tribute to the memory of former Chaminade and Duke University standout Jimmy Regan, an Army sergeant who died in 2007 while on combat patrol in Iraq.

Chaminade’s CHSAA rival, St. Anthony’s, also plays at 1 p.m., at Somers as part of Somers’ day-long Spring Fest. Somers is looking for a win against a crossover regional power after falling to New Canaan, Ridgefield and Niskayuna.

In another 1 p.m. game, defending Section 1 Class C champ Bronxville hosts defending Section 1 Class A champ Mahopac. Both teams are coming off their first losses of the season — with both setbacks coming against Lakeland/Panas.

Our final 1 p.m. matchup features New Jersey power Delbarton hosting Fairfield Prep.

At 3 p.m., Garden City and host Shoreham-Wading River meet up in a good game for a good cause — the fight against breast cancer.

In Westchester at 4 p.m., rivals Briarcliff and host Pleasantville meet in the inaugural Saw Mill Slugfest.

Route 35 rivals Ridgefield, the defending Connecticut Class L state champs, and John Jay, meet at 7 p.m. in Cross River.

It’s among several games today that you can catch live on msgvarsity.com. Be sure to check the complete list here.

The premiere broadcast of the Ridgefield-John Jay game will be on Tuesday, May 1 at 4 p.m. on MSG Varsity iO Channel 14. After the premiere, you can catch it anytime on On-Demand Channel 614 or msgvarsity.com.

Also of note, Smithtown West hosts Sachem North at 7 p.m.

Needless to say, there are many other big games in the tristate region today. Scroll down to check the links to access the complete schedules. But if there’s a game you think we should have noted, by all means, be sure to post the info ASAP on the “Comments” portion of this thread.

    Jay 13 Ridgefield 12
A big game for J. Just like Town, need to keep the momentum going with success vs top teams

    Mahopac 10 Bville 7

Another really big game for Bville to see if they can recover from LP beating and show what they can do vs top traditional northern westchester team. Pac may not be as tough as LP, home game helps and let’s see if Grass breaks out.

    • Relax says:

I love your JJ prediction. Would Clearly show Sect.1 Dominance over fciac & CT. Bville gets a break. Their game originally scheduled for ‘pac. Read something here about ‘pac’s field being worked on. Pac’s another tough D for the Gras boys & no.10 to face. Bville’s got some speed at middie. Their D & goaltending will be the deciding factor. If they get Great Play on that end it’s an Upset. Either way they have everything to gain today & congrats to ‘pac for scheduling them. With the change to an away game; it makes it an even more intriguing match-up. We’ll know in a couple hours. Another decent sized step for the Broncos, that could become bigger. My gut says NO

    • Indian J says:

Well let’s hope Jay can keep pace with Ridgefield’s offense, I’m sure both teams will be pumped.

  2. LaxLessons.com says:

PAC works halfield sets before game starts like all the top teams do w/ opposite colors on. Bville doesn’t. Interesting. 2:39 in PAC scores 1-0 bville gets an emo but can’t cash-in. Pac’s D handling GRAS boys so far. #10 scores fir bville on a loose ball off a save 5mins left in 1st 1-1 Older GRAS to the younger 2-1 bville broncos are in this. Emo PAC 4:14 left 1st. They throw it away bville’s mandown plays well. But they get another penalty 2men down now. PAC ties it at 2 3:05left 1st bville gets an emo w/ 2:04 left pac’s goalie bails Em out he’s having a good qtr 2-2 after 1

  6. Relax says:

Emo bville 42secs into 2nd bville scores on a rip at pac’s goalie’s head. Nice shot. Offsides another bville emo. 2mins in. Bville scores 2:06 in 4-2 bville gets another emo 3:40 in. Pac’s killin themselves w/ penalties. They’ve played alot of the 1st 16mins a mandown bville cashes the emo 4:10into 2nd 5-2. PAC scores a min later 5-3. 5-4 5:54left. Bville gets a transition goal w/5mins left 6-4. They look good offensively. PAC gets an emo w/3:42 left they cash it 32secs later 6-5. Fun, good game! Pac’s goalie goes behind to cover GRAS & they get the ball.. Dangerous. 6-5 bville at half

  7. Relax says:

Emo bville bench penalty on pac’s coach has was out of the coaching box!?!? Pac’s goalie is HUGE.. Big advantage in the nets for Pac. Timeout bville 6-5 no scores 5:30 into 3rd. Pac’s O doesn’t move the ball enough they are a much better team on D then O. W/O that bville would be up by a few more goals bville’s played a much better offensive game. PAC emo 2:30 left they throw it away. L/P handled bville because their O was better. Brendan Hynes eats up J GRAS & he gets a penalty PAC can’t cash the emo. No scores in the 3rd

  8. Playlax says:

    St. Anthony’s beat Somers 12-2

  9. Relax says:

PAC ties it 2mins into 4th PAC gets an emo don’t cash in PAC gets a penalty for bouncing the ball off the ground. Bville scores 7-6 pac’s fans are losing it!! Bville scores w 6mins left 8-6 bville 8-7 PAC scores bville wins FO & scores 9-7 bville been winning every FO 9-7 2:30left PAC emo 2mins left a bville father screams TO not the coach. Bville coughs it up to PAC on the clear & PAC gets an emo bville goalie makes his 2 biggest saves & bails out the father who called the TO.. Ridiculous! Let the coach… COACH Final 9-7 bville

  10. Laxn says:

Put Valley 7, Fox Lane 6 in OT – FINAL

  11. Westchesterlax says:

If I’m not wrong, Mahopac’s Berardis was held scoreless by Bronxvilles LSM. Solid performance by Bronxville in the victory, their goalie made multiple clutch saves.

    • Trojan Horse says:

GC leads SWR 7-3 in the 3rd

      • Relax says:

iPhone corrections.. Pac’s coach should Not have had a penalty called on him. Calling a penalty for throwing the ball into the ground should Not have been called on PAC. Refs & Fans should not impact games players & coaches should. If these teams played 5 times under neutral conditions PAC would probably win 3 maybe 4. Bville’s O & F/O’s are better, but D & goaltending usually win & PAC’s at a higher level there

        • lax says:

maybe the penalties are true but bvilles goalie stood on his head and the bville defense locked down for most of the fouth quarter, a major reason bville held onto the lead. Say what you want about the refs and fans but bville’s offense had their way for most of the game and were clearly outplaying pac the whole way. they deserved to win that game and could do it again.

          • Relax says:

In no way did your O have it’s way. Yes they were better than pac’s O which isn’t sayin much. Their goalie had way more saves than yours. The big saves by bville’s goalie were on shots PAC shot right into him. Like I said your O was better your FO’s were much better but remember that game was supposed to be at PAC. Be happy w the biggest victory of the yr & maybe ever for bville. Play 7 games home/away w/ them they take you in 5 or 6. It’s just what it is

          • Relax says:

GC schooling SWR as Devin Dwyer gets the hat trick 12-3 w/9mins left. They’ll stay #1 in the Nation

  13. Not Gonna says:

Looks like Somers and Mahopac have shown there true selves. Both teams struggling horribly. Would not be surprised if they both do not make a run at this thing. While JJ, Town, and Lake/Panas are making some strides

    • laxforfun says:

A loss is a loss no matter what and looks like JJ has Somers and Mahopac’s stride. To make a statement you gotta be in W – all the talk of close loses…come on since when is a close loss acceptable to JJ?

  14. LaxLessons.com says:

    St. Anthony’s 12, Somers 2

    St Anthony’s Scoring:

    Matt Koenna – 1 Assist

  15. slacrosse says:

Congrats to Bville on their 1st “signature” win over a traditionally strong northern Westchester team. Good for their program and another game to toughen them up for the play-offs.

The was a really sloppy game (passing/catching) for both teams but worse for Pac. Plus little off-ball movement for Pac with guys trying to go 1 on 1 too often. As mentioned above without some great saves by Pac’s goalie, Bville wins by more. Bville moved the ball a lot better and won a number of more face-offs. Did not think any player on O or D was particularly dominating (again Bville worked the ball well with multiple kids getting involved)

If Pac can get to within 1 goal of LP (in OT) and Jay they must be capable of playimg much better then today which they better given their upcoming schedule of top teams. Will toughen them up for the playoffs.

Sure Bville can play sharper as well which they’ll have to, to be at all competititive with Somers playing at a high level.

    • Relax says:

Bville gets Somers at bville in a wk after a couple of easy games. Somers really needs to turn it around. It’ll be another great D match-up w/ Schurr on J Gras. I thought Hynes did a nice job on him for Pac although he didn’t cover him all game. Love to see JJ & lambert on GRAS. I’ll give bville credit for winning, but it wasn’t a big statement game. Town’s the best in sect.1 it’s a toss up between JJ & L/P. Although Bville beat Pac. I think pac’s better. Bville is knockin on the door. They’re talented but not as deeply talented as the top 4 or 5 teams. Beat Somers at bville in a wk & i’ll give ’em #4 in sect.1.

      • SWLAX says:

And here I thought you were becoming a B’Ville fan. Thanks for the credit, and it was kind of a statement game, atleast for the Broncos to put Sect 1Class C on notice. Fortunately they don’t play 6 times, so they’ll take the W. J. Grass, two s’. Sloppy game today, but as some say, no style points.

        • Relax says:

Bville’s the best in C. If they don’t get back to the downstate finals again I’d be surprised & would say they underachieved. Hopefully along the way they get to exact revenge on Dobbs for what they did to bville in football. Dobbs, Croton, Kennedy, Pelham, PV, Byram & the rest might think they’re gunnin for the broncs, but in reality they don’t have a realistic chance. Good Luck, but bville has made a statement for two yrs that Good Lax can be played below 287. Enough w/ the northern bias. I’m onboard with these kids. Just Please whoever that Johnny Soprano look a like is… Let Coach Call His Own TO’s!!!

          • BH Is Closer Than You Think says:

I like the Bobcats chances once the playoffs start. Like how they play mostly strong Class B teams, which will only make them better. But fritz needs to realize that tryouts are over and its time to play only the kids who can play. Class C final probably a rematch with Bronxville.

    Kennedy 14 North Salem 12

Kennedy was up 11-4 at the half…

  19. Relax says:

R-field scores 3:11 into 1st they’ve had the ball 1st 3:30.JJ hits double pipes & the net moved 4:30 in No Goal.. Looked close to one. R-field completely mugs a kid fr behind as he’s shooting No call. At 7:17 in #9 JJ puts in his own rebound. Nice Goal.1-1. JJ’s not getting any help fr the refs. R-field scores 9:11 into 1st Wolf w the goal. 1st call of the game gives an emo to R-field after a goal it’s 3-1 RF man-up they cas-in w40secs left in1st 4-1 No Love fr the Zebras for JJ. 4-1 after1

  20. Relax says:

These refs aren’t callin anything what a difference fr bville/PAC 7mins into 2nd no goals. RF had ball for 1st 6mins JJ’s had it since. Timeout w/3:53 left in the half still 4-1RF

  21. Relax says:

RF calls timeout 1:29 left in half. JJ scores w 15secs but RF scores as the siren sounds refs had a discussion about if it was good & give it to RF. Closest goal to time running out I’ve ever seen. It was questionable but scoreboard reads 5-2 RF

  22. LaxLessons.com says:

After most of the 2nd quarter goes scoreless, Duffy and Wilkinson trade goals in last 15 seconds of second quarter. Ridgefield up 5-2 half.

  23. Mr. Kennedy says:

Kennedy beats North Salem 14-12. Kennedy improves to an 8-2 record best start in school history. Let’s give these boys some love. Wow in just 3 years this program has come so far!! Great job boys!!! Coaches you got it going on –thanks!!

  24. Relax says:

JJ makes it 5-3 4mins left RF hits the pipe as the siren sounds Again. They’re good at cuttin it close 5-3 after 3

  25. Mr. Kennedy says:

Great win Kennedy. Beat North Salem 14-12. Best start in school history off to a 8-2 record. In just 3 years this program has come so far. Great job boys. Coaches you got it going on – Thanks!!

  26. Relax says:

RF rippin high twice JJ gets the ball & scores 2:25 into 4th has the worm turned? 5-4 on back to back JJ goals. RF misses high again. They control the ball well reminds me of notre dame game I was watching. I like it more wide open & so does JJ. They get the ball w 6mins crowds goin nuts. Stall warning 4:45 they lose ball w 4:15left RF takes a shot at 3:37 JJ gets it & gives it back w 3:30 left. Total possesion, low scoring, Ball control game. TImeout RF. They’re lookin to stall the rest. Boring! Ref gets involved by giving a pushing penalty to JJ. They get the ball w 2mins a miracle! They call timeout. Karma bit RF for stalling. Even the bad call & emo didn’t help. Love It!!!

  27. Relax says:

JJ took a rip early RF saved it & Calls timeout w/ 20secs refs call JJ for a slash when they double the ball b4 t.o. Need a miracle don’t get it 5-4 RF I hate stalling change the game/rules

  28. LaxLessons.com says:

Ridgefield holds on to win 5-4 despite being held scoreless in the second half. Sean Wilkinson scored twice for Ridgefield, which improves to 9-1.

  29. Jay All the Way says:

Great effort by John Jay holding Ridgefield’s explosive offensive scoreless for a half. That was the first and last time we’ll see that all season. JJ needs to limit turnovers and work on its set offense but overall another statement effort against a regional power. Branca is an absolute beast in net!

    • Relax says:

Scoring on a questionable goal & scoring once in the final 36mins is NOTHING for this so-called regional powerhouse to hang their hats. Stalling & scoring once over the 2nd,3rd & 4th Shows Very Little

    • Laxin Lax says:

Wow. GC, SW, Nade very impressive wins

  30. Lax says:

    Brewster 6 Mamo 4

  31. mrReality says:

Arlington traveling up to university of albany for a quality win over guilderland, 9-4. Big game on tuesday against brewster for league title on tues under the lights at 7pm.

    • onlooker says:

Arlington is an underrated team. I would watch out for them come the playoffs

      • section 1 says:

i don’t think anyone underrates arlington, they are a very good team, as is brewster. This will be the biggest win of each team’s season so far, should be a great one

  32. Relax says:

Talk about Non-Statement games. Ridgefield beats Wilton in a shootout a couple days ago & if a very questionable goal tonite to end the 1st half isn’t allowed they would of been Shut-Out for the final 3qtrs by JJ. I’d love to see that goal in slow motion. Really feel for JJ. They desrved OT. Ridgefield showed they can Stall & Not score for 3qtrs After scoring 4 in the 1st. That’s how I’ll remember tonite’s game.

    • Big Easy says:

Blah, blah, blah. If JJ wanted to play an uptempo game they would have come out of that passive zone and played the ball more in the second half. Ridgefield never trailed in this game. Lacrosse 101- If you have a lead and the ball you are in the driver’s seat. Ridgefield played patient lacrosse and allowed JJ to pack it in and watch the clock run. While not a exciting game, both teams played well and Ridgefield was clearly the better team. Bottom line- Here isa statement for you: Ridgefield is 9-1 with a single loss to Summit, NJ who is currently a top 25 in the country at 11-0.

      • Relax says:

This game is condensed to the 1st qtr. RF stalked the 1st 3:11 & scored. Then JJ tied it. RF ran a JJ kid over Fr behind who had the ball & no call. After this JJ scores on 2 emo’s & 1 all even goal. It’s all above in my breakdown of the 1st qtr. If I was a JJ player, parent or fan I’d be irate. Lax 101 is to come out stalling Fr the opening FO? Lax 101 is to mug shooters Fr behind & get away w/ blatant fouls in front of the refs? Finally, after getting your 4-1 lead Lax 101 is to run & hide. I went to this game to see a team that beat Wilton 15-14 in a shootout. Instead I get a HS version of ND. RF showed me nothing last nite. I only wish ‘town could have gotten this great team that’s only loss is to a NJ team. Never thought I’d say this but I hope Darien crushes them. Of course you put it on JJ for not pressuring them more, blah, blah, blah. When all you do is come out & pass the ball around because you can’t penetrate a zone. You know a shot clock is necessary

        • Relax says:

iPhone error… Ridgefld wasn’t stalking The 1st 3:11 they were STALLING. Offenses that aren’t trying to score need to be eliminated. A shot clock is an eventuality or they’re going to have to make the box smaller by a good amount.

        • Relax says:

RF scored on 2 emo’s & 1 all even. Sorry bout that. I didn’t include the 2nd, 3rd & 4th qtrs because as we know all RF did was NOTHING offensively. Interesting that more bloggers don’t think that goal at the end of the half shouldn’t of counted. Oh yeah there was a JJ score that the refs might of missed, where the ball hit two pipes & rippled the net. That’s a two goal swing… JJ might not of needed OT after all LOL

  33. SirLaxalot says:

John Jay did play a bit too unaggressively but certainly came to play and almost pulled it off. Nothing like the stall ball they did vs. Manhasset a few years ago. Now that was embarrassing. Had never seen a HS team resort to that before or since.

    • Indian J says:

As long as it appears that Jay has improved somewhat from early in the season and is capable do an upset somewhere down the road. Could at least come away with that ?

    • Relax says:

How do you rate the stall job by Ridgefield last night? To not score for the whole 2nd half. And for 3qtrs if the questionable goal at the end of 2nd was not a goal. 3qtrs of not scoring a goal passing it around was pretty embarassing. Not familiar w/ the set game, but that type of play needs to be changed. Play Ball & show what you can do. High powered Tigers… Yeah right

    • LI Lax says:

What exactly is wrong with slowing the game down in an attempt to win? If my team was the underdog and my best chance of winning was to win the faceoff and hold it the entire quarter, you better believe I would try to do that and love to win 1-0.

      • Relax says:

Didn’t realize ridgefield was an underdog. Guess that’s why they ran & hid for 3qtrs w/ their 4-1 lead. To stall for an entire game is boring. A coach that would win the opening FO score then win the next FO & Try to stall the rest of the game, as you depict is GUTLESS

        • LI Lax says:

As the great Herman Edwards once said, “you play to win the game.”

I was referring to the Jay-Manhasset game above.

  34. Relax says:

Oh I forgot; Big Easy Lax-101 says get a 3 goal lead in the 1st & STALL the rest of the game. What a JOKE

    • chillax says:

It’s not like ridgefield just passed the ball around the whole time and did nothing, they were still taking plenty of shots, if it weren’t for the JJ goalie making some incredible saves ridgefield would have had atleast 10. Your trying to make it seem like they got the lead and didn’t attack at all, just sat there and passed.. Yes maybe they did take their time, but they had wait for the opportunity to strike against the zone and also give their defense a rest. And for what it’s worth, JJ did their fair share of stalling and holding onto the ball when they had the ball aswell…

    • Big Easy says:

I don’t think I ever have ever seen a bigger crybaby on this blog. Almost ten posts about a pretty good, one goal game where the team in question took at least 20 shots during the last 3 quarters. John Jay did a nice job playing a tight zone. Ridgefield methodically worked the ball around the perimeter and took shots when they had good looks. The Jay goalie played well. The story of the game was patience and defense. If you wanted to see more goals, you should come to a ridgefield game where the opposing team plays man to man defense…i.e vs Somers, Wilton or Lincoln-Sudbury.

      W-I-N-N-I-N-G!

  35. Relax says:

Great Wide Open Patriot League Final. Neither of these coaches are afraid. 13-10 Lehigh w/ 2:10 to go in the 3rd. 23 goals w/ 2mins left in the 3rd is LAX & fun to watch. Lehigh jeeps their foot on the gas! Love It! Stall Ball isn’t what the sport is about… Period

  36. Relax says:

14-11 thru 3. Absolutely Love this game. Up & Down action. It’s Win the FO & fastbreak Lax. What the sport is meant to be. This is NOT hockey it’s lacrosse!

  37. Really? says:

Because hockey does not have end to end action or because the goals are smaller or because they are playing on ice?

    Your point makes no sense.

They don’t score much though, do they?

A 5-4 hockey game would be exciting. I don’t call dumping the puck in the corners & trying to keep it there exciting. Let’s not turn lax into hockey or soccer. Trust me there will be rule changes to stop the methodical pass it around & if you shoot make sure back-up is close by the end line so you regain possesion. A shot click’s coming or the box will get smaller to avoid StallBall

Seems like WI-WM and JJ-Ridgefield were the only tight big games of the day. Most of the other ones wound up being blowouts.

Seems like Ward Melville can’t get over the hump in these big games.

I would have liked to see JJ get a win but they seem to play to their competition which Sat night was good. With that tight zone defense of Js you are not going to see big scores, especially with the methodical attack that also is J’s. JJ had real trouble in the 1st dealing with RF’s agressive zone – 2 coming at the ball not allowing much if any dodging.
LP should be a tight game on Tuesday.

Also a score of interest from upstate Fairport 11 JD 10.

Can’t wait to see a Nisky vs. SW or WI.

No points by either team in 2nd half boring lax.Really doesnt mean they played good lacrosse. There goalie kept game close JJ has no offense @ all.

It was boring lax, but JJ did score in the 2nd half. It was Ridgefield that didn’t score for the whole 2nd half & if you take away their questionable goal at the end of the 2nd qtr, they went 3qtrs w/o scoring. But as the Charlie Sheen wannabee would say it’s w-I-n-n-i-n-g. Couldn’t help myself, being such a crybaby & all. LLLOOOLLL
