Defending Section 1 Class B champion Yorktown saw its 12th senior — and 16th player overall — commit to a collegiate program earlier today as defenseman Andrew Rohle decided on Saint Leo in Florida.

“The fact that it is a great school for my intended major, Criminal Justice, was definitely a huge factor,” Rohle said. “Also playing lacrosse in beautiful weather down in Florida couldn’t get any better.”

Rohle also considered the College of Saint Rose and SUNY Oneonta.

“Those were close seconds, but when it came down to it, I chose Saint Leo,” Rohle said.

The 6-foot, 185-pound Rohle has good stick skills and a strong knowledge of the game.

“One of my strengths is definitely my stick skills,” Rohle said. “I have taken pride in that. Also another strength is being a smart defender and really knowing the defensive schemes of the game.

“One thing I can  always improve on is quickness. Footwork is a huge component of defense and takes a lot of work.”
