Anthony Grasso is a fast and physical defenseman.

Those are two traits that traditionally translate to success at the next level.

That’s exactly where the Fox Lane senior is headed.

Grasso has given a verbal commitment to attend Division III power Stevens Tech, which competes in the highly regarded Empire 8 Conference.

Stevens Tech so happens to be the alma mater of Nick Daniello, the director of the Prime Time travel program.

And Grasso is the first of the 32 college commits during Prime Time’s three-year history to commit to play for the Ducks, where Daniello also played defense. (You can check out a complete rundown of those 32 players by clicking here.)

“Stevens is a fantastic fit for Anthony,” Daniello said. “The athletic facilities and commitment to winning Stevens offers to its athletes are really incredible. Coach (Gene) Peluso and his staff have not only gained a great player but a great kid.”

Now, let’s get Anthony’s thoughts on his commitment:

What were the main factors in your decision to attend Stevens Tech?
The main factors for me were family and academics. Stevens offered a wide range of technical fields that I was interested in as well as business and finance fields. Also, I have the ability to continue studying Spanish as well.

Family, however, was definitely the biggest factor for me.  Having only my mom, I wanted to be close to home not only so she and my brothers could see me play, but also so that I was close enough to be there if she needed anything.

What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
I was considering Franklin & Marshall, Holy Cross, Mercyhurst and Union. I visited both Holy Cross and Franklin & Marshall.

What adjustments do you think you will need to make to play at the next level?
In my opinion, I definitely think I need to work on endurance. Also, I will need to work on my communication skills.

What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?
Playing fast and physical. I love to force a turnover and push the ball upfield quickly and become an offensive threat. Also, I love to make a statement on defense with some big hits.

What players have helped influence you as you made your way through varsity?
To name a few, Connor Morris, Graham Werner and (Fox Lane girls lacrosse standout) Sammy Jo Tracy. All of these players have taught me to work hard and have always pushed me to get better in all aspects of the game. They have all inspired me to try and be the best player I can be.

When did you first realize you had the potential to play at the college level?
The summer after sophomore year was when I first got an idea that I might have what it takes to play in college after I had received a few questionnaires and other recruiting forms. However, at the time I never thought that I would be able to play at a competitive place like Stevens but I am very excited that I will get the opportunity to play there.
