Jon Bota and the Mahopac Indians, who have a win over Yorktown on their 2011 resume, host rival Lakeland/Panas, the defending Section 1 Class A champion, today at 6 p.m.
To say Lakeland/Panas and Mahopac have history is an understatement.
A big understatement.
Since 2000, the teams have met not once, not twice, but four times in the Section 1 Class A final?

FYI Rye vs. New Canaan is @ Rye 5:00pm above stated at New Canaan.
laxpower shows Rye @ New Canaan, that’s a change?
CIAC shows the New Canaan – Rye varsity game is indeed at Rye, 5pm.
Wilton at Ridgefield today, 530
Stepinac @ Fordham Prep 430pm
Put valley will get destroyed by jj. They are nothing this year and especially without KC john jay will run a clinic on them. Definetly wont be Sec1 champs this year and might not even make playoffs.
Wow Lax. Talk about kicking someone while they’re down. Show a little more class. So a team is having a down year, let it be.
Say LI LAX or other LIs in the know how will that Wogue vs Bayport BP game be, I assume Wogue a favorite but what are strengths weaknesses of each. I hear alot about the big boys in Sect 11 but less about these teams.
Comsewogue is just a solid all around team. One of their big advantages is at the X with Stony Brook-bound Nick Pellela (sp?). He’s been unreal this year, giving them tons of extra possesions. Connor Duddy is another one of their good players and leaders. Bayport-BP is a pretty good team, but I would be surprised if this game came down to the wire. I’d say Comsewogue by 4 or 5.
Lakeland 9, Pac 8
FP 10 Greenwich 7
NS 10 Haldane 6
Somers 8 HH 7 (reasoning is FOGO for HH dominates if not Somers by more)
JJ 14 PV 4 (down year for PV)
BH 12 Harrison 4
Huntington 9 SWR 8 in the upset of the day
KC 9 Carmel 6
NC 12 Rye 7
11-9 pac
PAC 10 L/P 8
Rfield 9 Wilton 8 OT
If in fact the game is @ Rye
Rye 8 NC 7
8-6 Town Half
Town Was down 6-5 with 2 mins left, scored3 in Last3:30 mins and the last one as the Buzzer sounded.
Half of D was pulled by Coach Marr in 2nd, Brewster is playing like this is the State Championship. Good for them!!
13-6 Town after 3 Fusco with 5
Schuldt with 4
SWR up 9-8 on Huntington in the 4th
10-8 SWR 3 left
10-9, 2:41
10-10, 2:15
11-10 SWR 1:24 left Huntington ball
FINAL: Shoreham-Wading River 11, Huntington 10.
Almost picked the upset
JJ 15-0 final
Pac leads LP 8-6 at half
Iona 18 Fieldston 8
Shane Fee six goals!
Rye 12- New Canaan 8 Final
Nice job Garnets…way to represent!!!
Great win for Rye. Congrats
byram 4-2 over harrison. it was byrams from the start. by half time they had their starters and their backups on the sidelines and gave everyone some playing time. good win for byram
4-2 doesnt sound like an impressive win dont know why their coach would pull starters…if it was byrams from the start they would have scored more
8-2
curious does anyone know that name of Harrison’s faceoff guy? He is extremely good!
Pac leads LP 12-7 after 3. LP defense very shaky.
Is pac/lp game closer then score shows?
12-8 Rye
Congrats to the team for a real good win over a strong New Canaan team who had a lot of weapons. #20 stood out with a very lethal shot.
Rye continued their trend of reaching for the type of play they’re capable of. Still more work to do and taking it one game at a time.
Nice scoring contributions/goals from attack (Barton, Stern) and all the middies (McReddie, Bonaventura and Chapman). In particular a leaping in the air catch and shoot goal from Stern was great as well as a key rebound goal from O’Callaghan. In the second half both FO kids were battling but Rye moved two poles to the wings who came in and cleaned up for a good amt of FO possession. Clears were strong as well.
Great for Rye, 4th win in a row for them. Sounds as if the Garnets are really in the thick of the Class B sectional picture now. Could New Canaan have been peeking ahead to their Saturday matchup on MSG Varsity against Darien? Could have been a trap game for them. Anyway a good win for Rye as the season and the teams start to sort themselves out.
Last note on Rye vs. New Canaan, Rye had big edge in ground balls both off the draw and in their defensive zone. Rye cleared the ball with ease most of the time. Rye’s resurrgence has alot to do with the play of O’Callaghan (11 goals last 3 games) and McCreddie spreading the offense around and lock down defense from Pickup and Collins. Rye has 6 games left I would like to see them go 5-1 and make a big push in the Section 1 class B playoffs.
Great win for Rye, sounds like they have some mo going winning four in a row. Too much talent on that team to not start making some noise. It will be real interesting next couple of weeks for sure.
Pac wins 16-7 … WOW
Town 15-8 over Brewster … (score mentioned earlier)…
Breakout performances by Frankie Fusco w/ 6-1 and freshman Conor Vercruysse 4-0. Schuldt went 3-0
Where did #3 on Rye come from? He has made a major impact this year, particularly in the last two games. Overall Rye has come together as a force to be reckoned with.
Always get in trouble for maybe leaving out names–usually dont mention names for this reason. So of course I forgot above to mention a real nice goal by Andrew Davis, a junior Middie. Also O’Callaghan who I mentioned above plays Attack.
Stern, a junior is starting at attack for the second yr. Building his confidence all the time on assists and creating for himself. Terrific soccer player as well.
#3 for Rye Greg Stern 2nd year starter …#20 for New Canaan Matt Blasco…
Somers -7
Hen Hud -1
Defense and Goalie for Somers was Lights out. #10 for Somers did a great job vs the Hen Hud face-off phenom. Think they were 50-50. That field is the worst, guys were falling all over.
Wow, 50/50 versus the HH FO kid! Good job. HH must have had at least a decent D holding Somers to just 7 goals.
Forgot to mention after the Town/Somers game that I thought that Somer’s pole, #20 was pretty impressive. Really good skills (hope I have the kid right?).
I agree Somers goalie and defense had an exceptional game. Hen Hud’s attack was forced to the outside, hit lots of pipe and what did get through was stopped cold. Hud’s goalie was strong too, but there were just too many unforced passing errors and missed groundballs. If you give Somers that many extra chances, they will hurt you. HH FO kid was dominating the x, and then Somers switched it up with #10 who had one clean win at the x that resulted in a picture perfect fast break goal. On the whole, #10 did well. Leddy did well too; probably won 65% overall for the game. Lots of debate on this site about who ranks where in Section 1 — but there can be no debate that the Sailor’s field really is the worse!
Mahopac-16
L/P-7
A good old fashion whoopin!
knew Pac was gunna come out strong. Pac is the dominant team…
Surprise of the day may be Greenwich easily handling Fairfield Prep 10-4. FP (8-3) played Chaminade to a one-goal game and its only other loss coming in was to Delbarton. Greenwich (6-4) lost to Darien 13-6.
Kennedy 14 Carmel 6
1. ytown
2. Pac/JJ
3.Pac/JJ
4.somers
5. LP
Whats the reasoning for having Pac and JJ tied, when 3 days ago – Jay won by 3.
Or the reasoning behind Ytown over Pac?
So much parity in Section 1 this year. I wouldn’t even attempt ranking them. No matter how you do it, you’re gonna run into some major problems.
bc ytown beat Pac, meanwhile Pac is below them. and jj got smoked my ytown and pac lost by like 3. for example just because Pac beat ytown doesnt mean they are better. if they were ytown would be under pac
well Pac also beat ytown meanwhile ytowns above them. and pac beat ytown while jj got blown out.(even tho it was first game) but either way ytown beat pac but theyr still on top
sorry but can’t have pac and JJ tied after JJ easily beat them on Monday
they won by 3. and please explain then why pacs not above ytown if they beat them?
ytown was missing Schudlt who, if you pay attention to these blogs, puts up absurd stats. Already with 38 or something goals while missing 2 games. Also, JJ did beat pac with some ease, were winning 7-1 at half and the last 7 minutes of the game they were playing stall ball and chewing clock up; could’ve score more. Pac is not above yorktown because they have 2 section 1 losses while yorktown only has 1.
well in the end pac still beat ytown no matter what the excuses. in the book its a W. it doesnt say its a W(with missing a good player)
W or not yorktown is better
I guess we’ll just have to take your word for it. I think Pac is just as good as Town. I think they had a real bad first half against JJ.
It’s called parity people. Mahopac beat YTown, YTown beat JJ, and JJ beat Mahopac. Definitively trying to claim any of those teams is better than any other at this point of the season is a waste of breath. Just let the seasons play out.
its madness
From a statistics standpoint, if you look at the teams’ records, SOS, and margin of victory, it’s so close to call with all three teams. You could make a case for any of them. The season is still fairly young though. The more games they play, the more this debate will settle out. It’s basic stats. Higher sample size will lead to more accurate conclusions to be drawn. Trying to draw any definitive conclusions right now just isn’t a great thing to do.
We’ll see which team(s) step it up down the stretch. Then we’ll get a better idea of who is truly #1. Trying to debate who is #1 right now three quarters of the way through the season is a fruitless debate. Let the games be played and form conclusions when it’s all said and done. Nobody cares who was #1 in week 8 of college football anyway.
this is true its just hard bc of the obvious top 3 teams..jj ytown and pac. they wont see each other again. jj and town will establish in the playoffs who is better. but pac will now never know how they fit in bc town dropped to the lower bracket now
Can’t debate that. We’ll see who is better between Town/Jay more than likely come Sectional time. Since Mahopac is in A, they won’t play either head to head from here on out. At that point, you probably go by which team advances further in States (if Mahopac does in fact win Class A).
It’s definitely fun to make rankings and debate who is better during the middle of the season, but everything needs to be taken with a grain of salt because the season is still a work in progress. No need to take things personally or even make definitive claims at this point. It’s fun to do but really means nothing in hindsight. All that matters is who finishes out the best.
Very logical – maybe the first post I have agreed with in about a week!!
Agreed MADNESS it tell you
I notice that rankings hit the blog after a Pac win but are absent after a loss. Any correlation? Fact is that if YTown were to play pac again, at full strength, they would win by 5 goals. And I think pac fans know this in their hearts. And are thrilled that Town is in B and therefore can keep the bragging rights for a year. JJ was crushing pac until they went into slow down mode. So I think Jay may edge them out in an unbiased ranking, like Joe’s on MSG for instance.
You notice that rankings hit the blog only after Pac victories? Are you attempting to claim that a Pac fan made these rankings? Did you not notice that YTown was above Pac in the original post? This literally makes zero sense.
Regardless of circumstance, Pac has bragging rights over Town this year. Nothing will change that. There is no asterisk next to the win because someone was injured. That’s not how sports work. Nor will Joe’s rankings on MSG change that either. No offense to Joe, but him claiming Town is better than Pac doesn’t change the fact that Pac won the only head to head game between the two this year, thus has bragging rights.
I think you need to lighten up a bit. The original rankings posted here have Town #1, so I’m not sure why you’re bent out of shape there. Not to mention Town has had bragging rights on Pac since ’99. The one year Pac gets those bragging rights back, you get bent out of shape. Pac won head to head. They deserve it. Your bravado-fueled speculation won’t change that.
sounds like a man who knows what hes talking about
Aparently a loser parent who lost to pac…Deal with it.,. You lost. Pac won.
IMHO Yorktown is the best team in Section 1. Yes, Pac beat them (in 2OT). So they certainly have bragging rights, but there are more than two teams. JJ, Pac and Somers(don’t forget about them) are in the next tier (both J and Somers beat Pac, Pac beat Town, both J and Pac handled LP). LP is a tier below them.
If Town had to play any of those teams again, they would be favored. They problem with taking only one point in time (game) in determining who is the better team, is that there are so many variables to take into account.
Keep sleeping on Suffern…
Final: Wilton 10, Ridgefield 6
Any detailed color on the Pac/LP game?
pac wanted it, and took it. simple as it gets
No disrespect intended to either team – but I just think Mahopac is the better team, and it is less about who “wanted” it.
Not sure if L/P has enough horses to compete at that level this year.
An impressive win for Pac. Congrats.
Nothing impressive about it!!
slacrosse. I think the difference in the game, with all do respect, was that Pac’s D played better than LP’s D. LP D is a young D and it showed. Both teams can score, but I believe Pac has more weapons. All three middies and all three attackmen can score. There are no weak links. The difference from tonight and in the loss to JJ was that Pac D didn’t fire quick enough. When they made the adjustments in the second half they played much better, but that bad second quarter was too much to overcome. Also, the JJ D played well. Should be an interesting Class B Playoffs, with JJ looking for revenge against Town and Somers and Rye in the mix.
Thx. Good luck.
LP’s defense is not young. They start two seniors on close defense. The difference is that they don’t know what they are doing back there, haven’t gotten any better, and continue to make the same mistakes.Good luck against ‘Town. Did anyone say a 20-spot is possible?
20 seems like an awful lot of goals…
Great win for Wilton. FCIAC will be a great race between Darien, Greenwich and Wilton.
Joe – Mike Francia 4 g 4 a tonite vs Ridgefield. He should be your next TriState Under The Radar Player on MSG…
I don’t really see how the FCIAC is going to be a great race. Right now it seems like Darien, and then everyone else is fighting for second (I also don’t know how you could include Wilton, but leave out New Canaan, who just beat Wilton two days ago). And Francia is a returning All-American, and overall I don’t know if he qualifies as under the radar (although I do think that he should be more recognized than he is around the tri-state).
Dude Wilton had an off nite vs NC it happens. NC lost to Somers and now Rye so I don’t think theyre as good as the other 3. Darien always loses in the FCIACs so it will prob come down to Greenwich and Wilton. Just saying.
So Darien loses 3 out of the last 4 FCIACs (they have won 4 of the last 7 btw, and all of their losses were by one goal), and they are probably not going to win, but Wilton will probably be in the final even though they have lost 25 STRAIGHT to Darien (going back to 1999). IMO, past years don’t factor into this year, so neither streak matters, but Darien thoroughly beat Wilton earlier this year. And for the record, NC and Darien played 3 one goal games in 07 so that loss wasn’t a shocker. Neither was the OT loss to Ridgefield in 09. Last year’s loss to Greenwich as the only big upset. Wilton should focus on beating the McMahon and NC again before declaring themselves “probable” finalists.
Give credit to Greenwich for not only playing FP but beating them. Darien won’t play FP … or John Jay for that matter. What are they afraid of? Hey Darien, want some orange sauce with that duck?
LOLOLOL you’re funnier than the first guy. Now get to bed before Mom finds out you’re on the computer.
If that’s true that Darien won’t play FP that’s too bad because it would be a good game each year and potentially a great rivalry.
Oh no, now you did it – you going to wake lax novice up.
Darien clearly ducking FP or JJ in favor of easier games against Manhasset, St A’s, Haverford, Nisky and Yorktown? Really?
Really? They must be afraid – so much so they would rather play Manhasset, Nisky, St A’s. Haverford and Yorktown.
LOLOL you must be Copps Hill’s expert on the FCIAC.
How about taking it game by game, WHS needs to get consistent
There are no “probable” finalists except Darien.
There are plenty of finalists that would not be surprising – Ridgefield, Greenwich, New Canaan, Wilton and probably McMahon too.
Races are always great from the view of the horse lapping the field.
Wilton should schedule games on three consecutive days every week, good job by Mike Francia and the entire team on the road. Is Matt Kobyra playing again?
As for Ridgefield, they can potentially avoid an oh-fer this week when they travel to Fairfield-Ludlowe on Saturday.
He (shoulder) and Serpa (ribs) were out for Barlow and were questionable for last night. Couldn’t get up to Rfield so can’t verify
watched the wilton ridgefield game. Some observations:
Francia was too quick for tigers d. He is a very good player, a little too cocky for my taste but he couldnt be contained. Somebody needed to slide hard and get physical, but tigers seem to be lacking that guy.
Tigers couldnt clear the ball, warriors had no problem clearing all night.
Both goalies played well but the wilton goalie was great. Stoned several tigers on the doorstep, a real difference maker. Tiger goalie deserves credit for keeping it close.
Tigers looked flat but credit goes to wilton for jumping out early and doing a great job riding.
Not sure what this game tells us but i have a hard time seeing either team beating darien. Should be fun playoffs though in the fciac. Anyone know the last time wilton beat ridgefield, been a while if i remember correctly.
The most recent win by Wilton prior to Thursday versus Ridgefield was in 2007, 5-4. Not exactly the dark ages.

Newtown beat Barlow 9-5
Just a quick word on the whole Mahopac-Yorktown-John Jay debate …
If you have followed Yorktown this season they have been wildly inconsistent, struggling at times to put distance between themselves and lesser opponents and often allowing many of those same teams to be in games on the scoreboard late.
The loss to Mahopac was what it was — a loss. Yes, if Schuldt had played I think the outcome may have been different, but that doesn’t excuse the fact that Town was listless during stretches against a whole bunch of teams, including most recently Somers and Brewster. I think most would agree they have played just one or maybe two four-quarter games all season — against John Jay and Smithtown West — and the Jay game was the season opener and it wouldn’t be fair to judge either team, positively or negatively.
So, really, there’s no way to say they “would have” or “should have” won or “will” win in a fictional rematch against Mahopac. At the end of the day Mahopac won and is playing like the prohibitive favorite in Section 1 that could get to the state semifinals and give whomever a game.
I think Yorktown will get it together, but they absolutely have to beat some of Ridgefield, St. Anthony’s and Wilton down the stretch to reaffirm their reputation as not only a team that schedules everyone, but also as a program not just capable of beating anyone, but still does.
John Jay has also had built-in excuses this season, but hasn’t quite put it all together yet, though they are playing a lot better now than they did over the first half of the season.
Parity has been the name of the game in Section 1 for many years now. What you did three weeks earlier really means nothing when compared against what could happen later. The days of simply looking at the schedule and easily rifling off wins and losses are over, as is looking at comparable scores between common opponents.
You gotta play each game in front of you, let the past be the past and not worry about the future until it becomes the game in front of you.
That’s about it.
Ct Fans,
Noticed Staples having a few two 3 goal and one 4 goal losses. Any realistic chances of them ruining someone’s day in the play-offs?
Absolutely if Kip Orban gets healthy and back to his dominant self
OK
I cannot wait for the Suffern Mahopac game tomorrow. Suffern’s biggest test of the year thus far. Wall Ball Ballers circled this game on the calender and are confident in our guys. With guys like Sleepy Mike, Eduardo, Mustachio, Red Panda, Hammer and E-n they should have all the confidence in the world. Viva Butterflag!
