It’s been arguably the game of the year in Section 1 lacrosse for the last eight years or so.

But when John Jay and Yorktown play, it’s more than a game, it’s a community event.

With that in mind, the two communities have worked together to help a special cause.

In the last few years, it’s been Breast Cancer Research.

This year, it will be the battle against ALS.

A weekend of activities and events to benefit the fight against Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease, will be capped off by the annual varsity boys showdown between the teams, set for 7 p.m. Saturday, April 2, at John Jay High School in Cross River.

Festivities begin on Friday, April 1 at 7 p.m. with “Party for a Cause” at Salem Golf Club in North Salem. The event includes an open bar, cocktail hour, dinner, music and a silent auction. The cost is $125 per person. To purchase tickers, visit outreachals.org.

Prior to Saturday’s game, there will be a “Lacrosse for a Cause” youth clinic starting at 4:30 p.m. The cost is $25 per participant. You can register at www.jjyl.org.

  1. Long road says:

good game and good cause. Should be a big crowd in Cross River on 4/2.

  2. Laxnn says:

    JJ 8, Town 5

  3. SirLaxalot says:

I’ll go with John Jay, 10-7.

  4. Murph's Place says:

    Town 9, John Jay 8

  5. Lax n stuff says:

    Game’s just 3 weeks away!

  6. laxman says:

This is not a prediction blog people! Good luck to both teams and to a great weekend for a great cause

  7. slacrosse says:

    Great cause/great programs/great game!!

  8. just laxin says:

Town 9-8 in OT. So many new good players on both sides. Having watched both of their summer teams play, they will both be very good. JJ has more experience for sure, but just have a feeling here. Wish they could move this game to later in year though.

  9. just laxin says:

    Jay 9-8 changed my mind…no wait…

  10. CHERRY RD. says:

jay win early but town wins section when they meet in finals.

  11. laxr says:

No way Town beats Jay. Jay returns everybody except Pickel and the goalies (and they return one who was a Maverick Showtime All Star). Town loses KI, Lieberman, Koelsh, Burke…and they make up the gap from last year? (and let’s be honest, regardless of the one goal differential in the game last year, I think it’s clear that Jay was more than a goal better than Town by season’s end).

  12. Old Rugger says:

Town reloads most years, JJ has more experience, JJ 10 Ytown 9. Closer game that the JJ faithful think.

  13. laxman says:

Its a rivalry so not matter who lost more or who did better last year, it will always be a close game. Every year the game is within a couple goals..ill say jay by one or two

  14. BigBadBear says:

here’s the difference..this year, Jay must be considered a favorite, given Y’town’s senior losses…a little role reversal..will that put more pressure on J? Will that provide extra motivation for the ‘Huskers?

  15. wizard2 says:

    Joe
Any word on the MSG game of the week schedule yet?

  16. Joe Lombardi says:

    wizard –

The schedule won’t be set for the whole season at any point. We will know for certain on games about a week out, so the best bet is to check the schedule by region each week:

  17. reLAX says:

Both teams have new goalies so I think there will be some goals scored. JJ 11, Town 9

  18. JJFaithful says:

Anyone know who the starting goalie from Town will be this year?

  20. Laxtime says:

Thanks for being the first, as always, to get this important news out Joe.

  21. rlaxfamily says:

BBB – I’m feeling you and agree that John Jay will be under some pressure this year as the favorite. It’s always nicer for the underdog to come in with nothing to lose. I don’t think that Yorktown will see it the same way however. Yorktown’s team is young but I believe there to be strong individuals. If they can pull together and play together it may just be an exciting season for all of us. Can JJ hold up to the pressure of being the target this year? Its a tough schedule and competitive bracket and I am not sure if the pressure wont be too much. Pressure is JJ kids middle name as they are under pressure constantly at JJ but will they have the maturity to needed to handle all the pressure that this lacrosse season can bring if they have the season everyone in K/L thinks they will have?

    • BigBadBear says:

indeed, it will be a great game, I am guessing high scoring, new goalies on both sides. J has one advantage, as they have (arguably) the best player on the field in Daniello..(and wouldn’t Hop want him right now with ‘Cuse on the horizon?)

  22. HV Lax says:

Just 2 weeks till the game!

  23. cold ease says:

Daniello with a hamstring tear might keep him out for a few weeks.

  24. laxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx says:

Jay also lost Beck to a shoulder injury for I believe the entire season.

  25. justlaxin says:

so beck, daniello, and jimmy morris out…all 3 would start I believe….thoughts on JJ status now…
that will be tough to overcome…even if daniello is ok…

  26. cold ease says:

JJ has so much depth in wont matter

  27. HV Lax says:

Jay does have a lot of depth at midfield so they should be able to overcome losses of Morris and Beck though it definitely hurts. Hamstrings can be tricky but I’d be shocked if Daniello weren’t out there vs Yorktown on April 2.

  28. laxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx says:

Daniello should be back this week, Morris will hopefully be back for late in the season. JJ still has 3 top middies in Walter, Weil, and Chen on the offensive. JJ also has 5 attackmen that can play in Morris, Pray, Lupinacci, Daniello, and Ferentini (a JV standout). With so many skilled attackmen they could throw one or two at the midfield.

  29. laxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx says:

I think he will, although it is a scrimmage, that game seems to mean a lot to both sides.

    • Laxdude says:

It’s a scrimmage, the only games that matter are the ones that count. Darien JJ scrimmage while is something everyone is looking forward to is a scrimmage as it will be the first week of practice for the blue wave and for JJ they will be looking to put together the new pieces with the old. Plus word out at JJ is Daniello is fine and hasn’t missed a day of practice.

  30. cold ease says:

Daniello will play and gut it out. Morris wont play until college

  31. BeeLax says:

Kudos to Town and Jay for joining forces for this great cause.
