The adidas National Lacrosse Classic is set for this July in Maryland and the nation’s No. 1 lacrosse hotbed, the Hudson Valley/Long Island/Connecticut region, will be well-represented.

A total of 17 players from the region (all current high school juniors are sophomores) were selected to the 25-member East Region team.

Eight regions throughout the country, comprising 20 teams, will be compete for the right to face Canada in International competition.

Regional tryouts were held earlier this year.

To check out the East Region roster, as well as rosters for other regions, click here.

Also, with official varsity public school tryouts and practice starting next week in New York and the week after in Connecticut, we will be seeing more preseason rankings and previews in the days and weeks to come.

The latest is ESPN Rise, which released its Powerade Fab 50 rankings.

Of note, Garden City is ranked No. 2 nationally behind Pennsylvania power Haverford. Darien is No. 7 and Manhasset No. 8.  West Islip, St. Anthony’s, Chaminade and Smithtown West are all in the Top 20. John Jay checks in at No. 21.

Nothing too surprising, but still interesting. Other than the inclusion of defending New York Class B state champ Jamesville-DeWitt at in the Top 20, the ESPN Rise rankings are quite similar to the Under Armour/Inside Lacrosse national power rankings that were released three weeks ago.

Be sure to weigh in with your thoughts on the national rankings. Any too high? Too low? Not included at all?

After you do that, be sure to cast your vote in our poll question: Who do you think is the best team in the nation? (On the right panel of this page, just scroll past the “New Comments” and “Popular” tabs and click on “Poll,” and then cast your vote from the choices available, or write in your choice if it’s not listed.)
