Kyle Turri was considering several Division I programs.

But one had something the others did not.

In addition to being the defending national champions, Duke is the place where the West Islip goaltender’s brother, Justin, a junior, is a starting midfielder.

And Duke is where Kyle Turri will also be playing his college lax.

The 6-foot-2 Turri anchored the defense for a Lions team that started and ended last season ranked No. 1 in the nation, and won a state title for the fourth time in the last five years.

Turri will be the third member of his family to play D-I lacrosse. His father, William, played at Penn State. His uncle, Ralph, played at Bucknell.

Here’s a Q&A with Kyle on his commitment.

What were the main factors in your decision to attend Duke?
I love the coaching staff and Duke’s style of play. My brother plays for Duke and I have had the opportunity to get a close up look at Duke and l love the atmosphere on the team and the campus. It also is one of the best educations you can get in college.

What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
I was heavily considering Drexel. I also visited Colgate, Brown and Quinnipiac.

What adjustments do you think you will need to make to play at the next level?
I will definitely need to get bigger so my body can take up more of the cage. Also I need to get quicker hands to adjust to the faster shots at the collegiate level.

What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?
My strengths are my knowledge of the game, good vision and ability once the ball is in my stick; whether that’s out-letting the ball or taking it myself.

What players have you looked up to as you have moved up through the varsity ranks?
I have always looked up to Sal Locascio, one of the greatest goalies of all time.

When did you first realize you had the potential to play at the D-I level?
I first realized I had the potential to play college lacrosse in seventh grade, however, I didn’t realize I would have the chance to play Division I lacrosse until late in my freshman year.

Wonder outloud… Have any WI players besides the Turris played at Duke?
