Darien team of the year??? That’s crazy. I guess losing the two biggest games of the year to Ridgefield and almost getting upset by Ludlowe impressed the coaches.

  3. Lax Novice says:

I think what impressed the coaches more is that Darien is the highest ranked team on LaxPower’s Connecticut list to win its State Championship. This was accomplished without Nik Dysenchuk and Corey Caputo, two senior DI recruits whose playing time was ably filled by underclassmen who will be heard from again next season, including Case Matheis, Connecticut’s leading impact player among the class of 2012. Since Prep and Darien didn’t play this year, the computer seems to have made the choice, even though Prep had an outstanding season, winning its conference and the Class L title.

Now beating Yorktown yet getting three thumpings at the hands of Darien, each worse than the one before, to add to the 20-something other sad end-of-game handshakes, that’s crazy.

  4. Lax Novice says:

I erred when I made it sound as if neither Dysenchuk nor Caputo were available for the State Championship, I am aware that while Caputo apparently didn’t play that Dysenchuk went 3-1, I believe.

What I meant to say is that Darien played large chunks of the season without these two fine young men, and managed to pull it together at the end, which the voters apparently took to mean the State Championships.

  5. BlueWhite says:

Congrats to Darien for ending the season in a pile. Don’t think the boys on Route 7 are ready to be the lovable Cubs under Wiseman’s watch. Game was played with a lot of passion and if not for the draws it could have very easily been a different ending. That being said, Darien won it.

In any event, have a great Summer and we’ll see about next year, next year.

  6. Lax Novice says:

Congrats are also in order to all the All-State players and coaches named earlier, and Matt White, a well deserved POY. Good luck to all.

I am looking forward to reading about summer ball, recruiting and all the good things this site has to offer year-round. Congrats to Joe and everyone at LaxLessons for an enjoyable season.

  7. Joe Lombardi says:

Thanks, Lax Novice. We appreciate all your excellent contributions here and are looking forward to many, many more.

As you know, the offseason is when most of the big news big breaks in lax, including scheduling news, league and sectional alignments and recruiting commitments. So you’ll want to check back here a few times each day throughout the summer, fall and winter as well as the spring.

By the way, gang, our final LaxLessons.com Top 25 regional rankings for the 2009 season will go live at high noon. Since these are the rankings of record, so to speak, I used a simple formula in cases where teams’ résumés were equal. I asked myself this simple question: If Team X played Team Y, who would win? In more cases than not, that’s how I determined who was ranked higher.

I’ll be interested to hear your thoughts.

A shame Nikki Dysenchuk wasn’t healthy all year. He was an AA in the games he did play for Darien that’s for sure.
