    slacrosse — Yes. That’s 9-12.

  4. LAX says:

What a great way to end a high school career, 9 goals and a state championship for Connor English, incredible.

  5. Joe Lombardi says:

As you probably read in our live update link. Manhasset’s Connor English had an astonishing nine goals and the Indians won 16-11. La6ayette, which trailed 12-4, pulled within 12-10.

Jo do you have an update on West Islip Orchard Park?

  18. Joe Lombardi says:

    Final: Darien 17, Wilton 11

Darien wins its fifth straight Class M state title.

Four goals each for John Bolton and Chas Brickman. Chase Matheis had three. Dysenchuk and Annechino two apiece.

  19. junkyard dawg says:

I’m not that impressed – Didn’t they lose the FCIAC? I’m confused with Connecticut – you lose the Section and you still go on to compete in the States. No a good Formula. Darien has it easy! The State is too small to have all those classes.

  20. ithappens says:

last update i heard was 4-4 at the half for the West Islip Orchard Park game

  32. SilverSwords says:

No worries. Vorgang is a second half coach.

  33. Frisky Nisky says:

No worries??? Our offense is spinning its wheels. I’m definately worried.

  34. PurpleReigns says:

LOL. Nisky fans having a cat fight. Good to see this site spread up to Albany.

BTW rumor is P-Reigns has been invited to be guest speaker at tommorrow’s Town team dinner. Workin on my speech now.

  35. Setter says:

Congrats to Manhasset, 2009 Class C State Champs, and to Connor English for one of the most amazing performances in State playoff history in any sport. Can you.say Player of the Year?

  36. LionsDen says:

Three state titles in four years …

Meet the Empire State’s new lacrosse dynasty …

    WEST ISLIP.

Ward Melville and Yortown are so 1980s.

  37. LacrosseInsider says:

Yorktown not getting to the final was a HUGH disapointment…..however, Nisky not winning the title will be the ultimate letdown.

  38. HV Lax says:

Nisky down 8-4 after three. I don’t think they have enough of an offense to come back – Somers game notwithstanding

  39. LacrosseInsider says:

Nisky down 10-4 with 3:17 left to play. After hearing all the hype from the Nisky fans including how great Vorgang is….this has to be the biggest letdown in years!!!!!!!!

  40. laxman says:

    LionsDen

Dont Worry West Genesee will win it again next year for number 16 I think, I lost count

  41. LionsDen says:

If they can get by Ithaca … LMAO

  42. LacrosseInsider says:

FINAL SCORE: Canandaigua 10, Niskayuna 5

    UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I guess Vorgang won’t be heading to Princeton after all!!

  46. rambo says:

It might be! Put that in your speech purpleJO

  47. jade says:

people dont realize that you dont blow it, when you get to that level everyone is good. Nisky weak schedule came back to hount them

  48. dee-up says:

    come on out jade laxbus

  49. bleed green says:

man i guess yorktown was ducking big bad nisky!! well i guess when you play the school of the deaf and blind you will have a good regular season record!! yorktown really ducked the right team huh

  50. laxbus says:

Just got back…long drive from Rochester. No excuses….Canandaigua was the better team today. Kept our offense watching from the sidelines. Hats off to them for a great championship game. They did to us what we did to Long Island and Section 1

  51. sect one fan says:

    Joe,

Any word on when the all section list will be published? Do you have any information on the senior all star game? I believe it is being played Monday? Is there a roster out?

  52. laxbus says:

Our weak schedule didn’t hurt us when we beat Somers and Sayville. Canandaigua is just that good.

  53. LacrosseInsider says:

Laxbus – glad to hear no excuses. But is Canandaigua really that good?! If Nisky played them 10 times who wins the majority? I am just trying to get a sense if Nisky was out coached or over confident going in. At the end of the day I give you credit for not making excuses and owning up.

  54. taz says:

Wow – Galasso with 9 points and English with 10 in a state finals game – what are the chances we see something like that again in the near future??

I saw both games. These 2 are the 2 best HS players in the country. Period.

  55. taz says:

Newsday had Galasso with 8 so I could be wrong on that but English definitely had an assist so Newsday is wrong on that one.

  56. jade says:

    Vorgang Nisky coach, nice excuse!

“It didn’t affect our offense. It affected the game of lacrosse,” Vorgang said of Canandaigua’s slowdown approach. “It’s called the fastest game on two feet for a reason. They call it patient. I call it something else, but they were allowed to do it by the officials.”

  57. laxbus says:

Playing Canandaigua was like looking in the mirror. Whoever was able to play the control game first was going to win. They survived our fast start and locked it down.

They have the best faceoff specialist Marhshal Johnson (Fairfield) we saw all season. That includes any of the C and A playoff games. He won the faceoff’s with ease. Our faceoff specialist is no slouch. Mike Hall was also winning 80% of his draws all season. My guess even with our faceoff guy at 100% Johnson would win 60-70% with his technique. So if we play them 10 times, they may win 6.

Once they had the ball they would run off minutes before taking shots. They were called for many stall warnings. It was a brilliant game plan to keep our offense on the sidelines and work our D. And when the D did get the ball on the ground they got all the ground balls. It was the game plan that we wanted to run and they didn’t let us. Now Nisky has to play a catchup game, which you know is not how you want to have to play.

Our coaches weren’t overconfident. They don’t write in these blogs or set the rankings. They quietly put together a playoff run plan that helped us breeze through Section 1 and the Island. I worked till yesterday. They scouted them knew exactly how good they were.

Disappointing…absolutely. Devasted….no. Nisky is legit, and I’m glad some of you are saying it out loud.. We aren’t living in the past, we are building a foundation for the future. Each win and each loss teaches you something and hopefully you can use what you learn to get better. We’re in the state playoff mix every year. We’ll be back with another team next year to make another run.

    Congrats to Canandaigua.

  58. jade says:

Joe the All Section dinner is on Wednesday

  59. Re-LAX-N says:

It’s unfortunate you were not saying that a few days ago. Nisky is certianlly on the way up, At it serves no one’s purpose to put another team down. Espically when you have not played them. There were a lot of comments made about Town ducking Nisky and other teams this year. C’mon now they played St. Anthonys, Chaminade Ward Melville, Darien, Wilton, John Jay, Somers, Mahaopac. That is why you should never brag or gloat over another teams loss. Because what happened yesterday to Nisky is the result. I think all the teams that played in the tournament this year were very good. I still contend West Islip , Yorktown, and Orchard Park would have given Nisky all it could handle, but the facts reamain Nisky did not loose the class B title yesterday Canandaigua Won it. Was Nisky over confident? I don’t know. As for next year who knows I am sure we will be having many of the same..Differance of Opinions. What I do know is I am looking forward to it, and remember be careful of what you ask for, because you just might get it. Again Congrats to all the teams that played this year. Congrats to Town for always being classy and giving us something to root for. If we learned anything from yesterday, it is how hard it is to win a state championship no matter your record or ranking.

  60. laxbus says:

    ReLaxN,
Please look back at the posts. I know there were people talking trash but it was not me. I have never said anything bad about Town or any team this year. I have always tried to be positive.

I was not part of the conversation saying that Yorktown was ducking Nisky. I think Yorktown had a great team this year and would have loved to see a Nisky Town game. It wasn’t meant to be this year.

At the end of the day, records don’t matter, stats don’t matter. You have to play the game. Nisky played Canagaidagua, Canandaigua controlled the game, they beat Nisky in almost every category. NO excuses.

Congrats to all the State Champs. Next season started today. Time to get back to work.

  61. laxbus says:

A lot of people don’t think Canandaigua is that good. Don’t forget they were A last year and took the eventual State Champ West Genny to the brink with an 11-10 semi-final game. This year they moved down to B and they are the real deal, lead by (in my opinion) the best faceoff specialist in NYS, which by default means best in the Nation.

  62. Re-LAX-N says:

    Laxbus,

You are absoutly right and I apologize to you. I always try and stay positive as well. so please accept my apology. you are correct and the end of the day records do not matter and stats do not matter. The game is played on the field. I agree on your selection of best face off man comming from Cananadaguia that was one of the most impressive performances I have ever seen. It would be interesting to take lets say the top 5-10- faceoff specialists in each class and see who would come out on top. Again please accept my apology I am sorry. And again congratulations to all state Championsips winners. you will find as you get older just how special this is. So be proud.

  63. laxbus says:

    Re-LAX-in,
NO problem. No need to apologize.

I would just ask those others who ARE trashing talking to step back and remember this about the kids you trash in these blogs:

    1) They are reading what you write and taking it to heart.
    2) They are still just kids, not pro athletes getting paid to play lax

Be kind and think how you would feel if something said those things about you or your kids.

    <>

  64. Syracuse says:

    Laxbus,

I give you a lot of credit because you came back to the site and took the backlash of the loss like a man. There were several of your bretheren (I’m sure you’re just guilty by association) who are nowhere to be found.

Stick with us going forward. You offer a lot to the conversations. Don’t just show up in June. Your $.02 would be appreciated well before that.

  65. LI Lax says:

Canandaigua is absolutely the real deal, I watched the game today and they were extremely impressive. They were able to take Nisky out of their game with an extremely patient offense that capitalized on the opportunties that the Nisky defense gave it, and their defense was able to control Nisky’s 3 stars pretty well. I thought Franze at times tried to do a bit too much, taking a lot of shots and he did not let McKinney create enough offense (70+ assists, he should be the one with the ball in his stick most of the time). What can you say about Marshall Johnson though, the kid is just amazing, Fairfield is getting an absolute steal. Put him on any good team and they will become great just like that. Besides being dominant at the faceoff x, he also has a pretty good shot.

About the point regarding whether WI, Town or OP could beat the B schools…I do think WI would beat CA or Nisky, but the game would not be a blowout. I am not so sure about Town. Sure, Town has the talent to beat either of these two schools, but I believe that you would have to make either of them a slight favorite over Town. As for OP, no chance at this point really. I know OP beat CA in April but I could not see it happening right now…OP has one player, Tundo, who did anything against WI. I think if they played CA or Nisky theyd loes by 3 or 4 at least at this point.

  66. laxbus says:

    Syracuse,

I appreciate that coming from you. I’m just learning the game and the history, so it may take me a while to get up to speed, but I’m going to try.

  67. laxbus says:

My son’s are Dan and Justin McKinney. The Niskayuna Coaches ( Vorgang, Delano, Williams) and the game of lacrosse have given so much to my family and the community that I feel compelled to give back as much as I can.

  68. Syracuse says:

You can start by giving me some of your DNA.

  69. laxbus says:

    LOL ;^)

  70. LI Lax says:

HAHA that is amazing….but if you have any left after cuse gets it, I’ll take some too

  71. Syracuse says:

Wait in line LILax. I know for certain you are a young pup who’s got the world at his disposal. Give us guys way past their prime a chance. I’ll pay it forward if it pays off like it did for Laxbus. DEAR LORD MAN!

  72. Syracuse says:

    LILax,

You ought to strongarm GilmanFan into giving you some because the mere fact that that guy never picked up a stick is one of the crimes of the century. Imagine having a 6-foot-9, 350-pound defenseman with the agility of a middie and the stick skills of an attackman. Gilman never would’ve allowed a goal in four years, let alone not finish first in the MIAA.

  73. Syracuse says:

    LILax,

Now having seen both Yorktown and Orchard Park, how do you think that game would have ended if they had met in the Class A final?

  74. LI Lax says:

I don’t know how it happened, especially at Gilman…I know if he was at Yorktown he would have been John Ranagan on steroids 🙂 I know I would get out of the way if I saw him coming down the field at me, even if I had a 6 foot long pole. As far as strongarming him into it, considering he weighs about twice as much as I do and is a good 7 inches taller than me, I doubt that will happen any time soon haha.

  75. LI Lax says:

Town would beat OP by a comfortable margin I think, maybe theyd win by 4 or 5…OP just doesn’t have enough scoring options to consistently score on a D like Yorktown’s.

  76. LI Lax says:

I know WI beat OP by 5 but they did not play well in the first 16 minutes or so it was 4-2 OP and from then on 8-1 WI…I think WI is much much better than OP.

  77. Syracuse says:

You can throw GilmanFan off by dangling buffalo meat and RedBull on a stick …

I would not, under any circumstances, leave an arm near his mouth, especially if it is holding processed foods or Ben and Jerry’s.

  78. LI Lax says:

HAHA…I’ll let you know how that goes

  79. THEGilmanfan says:

HAHAHA. I about cried laughing so hard at the few previous posts.

  80. laxbus says:

    THEGilmanfan,

Did you go to the Nisky-Sayville game and talk to some Nisky parents? Nisky parents had some nice things to say about you if that was you.

  81. LI Lax says:

    laxbus,

He was there and I was there with him. The Nisky parents were some of the nicest people I have met, I have gained a lot of respect for Nisky as a program after attending that game.

  82. sec1 says:

LI Lax where would Nisky CA fall if they played ST Anthonys, Cham???

  83. LI Lax says:

IMO I don’t think either of them would beat SA, but they could give them a game. SA has the most dangerous offense on LI I believe because any of the six guys on the field at any time can score and is dangerous. SA would give WI a very very good game and might win. I think both Nisky and CA would probably beat Chaminade…low scoring games most likely.

  84. sec1 says:

Laxbus now that we know who you are, it made me laugh in a good way I talked to your better half at the Guilderland Shaker game and also at the Sayville game lol..

  85. sec1 says:

Thanks, Town did beat both so I have to give Town the edge over both CA Nisky

  86. LI Lax says:

Town would not beat SA if they played right now. I mean, they could, but I really doubt it.

  87. slacrosse says:

Yes I’ve seen other stars “shut down” but it was incredible to me how ABSOLUTELY shut off, OUT OF THE GAME Greeley was for Lafayette.

It looked like his team mates gave up even looking for him to pass to.

Yeah I give Sett credit for guarding him but this NON EVENT performance seemed extreme to me??

  88. sec1 says:

Maybe will never know do know that SA played better as the yr went on, but to Towns Dfence they handeled them pretty easy this yr and last

  89. LI Lax says:

SA now is not even the same team that lost to Town back in April, its that big of a difference…that team lost to Chaminade by three and by the CHSAA finals it did not even appear that Chaminade belonged on the same field as SA. They might have improved more than any team on LI if not the state throught the season.

Agreed about Greeley, I was definitely expecting more from him, but the Thompsons are the real deal. I would be shocked if L Thompson is not the #1 player in the nation in the class of 2011.

  90. sec1 says:

    Good point

  91. slacrosse says:

    LI Lax,

    Yeah. Thompson kids super!!

  92. laxbus says:

    Sec 1,

Too funny. Well we’ll have to figure out a time and place for all of us to meet and laugh about lax.

  93. slacrosse says:

    SilverSwords, you’ve gone very quiet???

I believe poor “laxbus” may have taken grief above for prior heavy dissing, biased type blogs that were attributed to him but actually were from OTHER Nisky fans. Can you identify these bloggers??

  94. sec1 says:

Laxbus that would be great, Lax is still a small world but growing fast..

  95. Old Rugger says:

Interesting how the B finals were 2 teams that were in the A playoffs the year before?

  96. Syracuse says:

    Old Rugger,

Again, another very good point by you. You often see that very thing happen. Then again, sometimes you see B schools fare well in the A tournament upon moving up.

It’s just one of those things that’s all about timing really. You take a school that came within an eyelash of getting to the state finals, like CA did last year with its one-goal loss to West Genny, and you just have to assume the expectations at that school this season must have been through the roof.

Someone has to send me a copy of CA-Nisky final. Or if anyone knows when it will be rebroadcast on MSG I’ll TiVo it.

I think what we’re definitely seeing upstate now is the same thing that started to happen downstate at the start of the decade. Someone in another thread was taking shots at Yorktown and Ward Melville, saying “They’re so 1980s” and in a sense that’s true.

West Islip is the new Melville. John Jay is the new Yorktown. Nisky is the new team nobody wants to play.

Now upstate West Genny “may” not be quite what it once was. I know they won it all in 2008, but if you look at their schedule this year many games were a lot closer than the Cats are accustomed to. Then again, maybe this year was just a rebuilding year for Genny.

    — Section 5 won the B championship — never happened before
    — Sections 2 and 5 made up the B final pairing — never happened before
    — Section 6 — not Section 3 — was in the A final — has happened I believe once before
    — Section 4 beat Section 3 in the quarterfinals in A — don’t remember that ever happening before, even when Genny didn’t win its section

Don’t get me wrong, I have looked over the West Genny roster and, at least from an offensive standpoint, it will be stacked next year. I believe it is bringing back its top 5 or 6 scorers.

It will be interesting to see if an Ithaca and a Canandaigua can sustain what each has accomplished of late.

Or will we go back to the usual Genny dominance, the Corning East dominance, the JD late-season surge?

Even Section 10 made some noise – with St. Lawrence Central beating Chenango Forks, which stunned Corning East in the Section 4 B title game.

Can Section 10 be far from making some serious noise? It’s not that far-fetched a notion.

There’s no doubt the landscape has changed, save for the fact that the true power team downstate still resides in Section 11.

I think programs like Yorktown and Ward Melville will always be considered royalty and will always carry with them their reputations, but their work is cut out for them.

I just don’t see where the teams we all grew up with — Town, Melville, Garden City — getting back to that dominance each enjoyed for the better part of two and sometimes three decades. There’s just too many programs out there that understand the way the game needs to be played today.

One thing is certain: It makes for exciting lacrosse and makes things a lot less predictable.

OP was in the finals in 2000 (7-4 loss to WM) and 2001 (15-10 loss to Northport)…no other Sec 6 team has made it this far. I think you are right about Sec 4 vs Sec 3…look at the late 80s and early 90s when Genny was “down,” FM, BVille, Liverpool all made the state finals. Just shows how good Sec 3 is compared to the other upstate section. What Ithaca pulled off this year was truly remarkable and we may not see it again for a decade or more.

BTW I have a copy of CA-Nisky but I think I messed up recording so it may be missing the entire second quarter, I will let you know about it though when I find out what I can do.

    Laxbus,

As LILax mentioned, we were at the Nisky-Sayville game. I think you mentioned before that you are the McKinney father, well I met your wife and spoke with her for a few minutes, wonderful lady. I was the large guy wearing a red polo standing near the press box. All of the Nisky parents were wonderful and very informative for the questions I had about the team. As I said before, I walked away from the game a fan of Niskayuna. The style of play (looked like an MIAA team) and class shown by their players and fans (especially when Sayville started being cheap) was something that all teams, regardless of sport, should strive for. Best of luck next year, I’m sure at some point our paths will meet again.

As for Syracuse…you shouldve been there. I’m dissapointed in you.

Oh, and Syracuse…you mentioned a lot of sections in your previous post. What about section 9!!!!!

    The GilmanFAN,

You gonna get down to Balt for the Under Armour AA game and undergraduate regional all-star games weekend of 26th (Jake Reed Nike Showcase Camp in Balt same weekend)?

When was the last time you spread some newspaper down and had some great spicy hard shell crabs washed down with “just a couple” of beers.

Cuse doesn’t know what he’s missing, does he!!

Will be going down visiting relative whose kid was all-state at St. Pauls (’92). Recruited to Penn by Petromala who was an ass’t at that time. His nephew was John Claster who was a star quarterback for Gilman (then Princeton) back in ’63

I really want to go to see the games, but I’m not sure if I can make it due to work conflicts. My summer job is at Lowe’s and they give some crazy schedules. If I don’t work that day, I will certainly let you know before hand.

As for the question about crabs and a “couple of beers” it’s been a while on the crabs…and I’ve never had “just a couple” of beers. It’s like golden water straight from heaven just for me.

One of these days I’ll get Cuse down here to watch some real lacrosse… oh wait, bad website to post those thoughts hahaha.
