  106. junkyard dawg says:

Why – West Islip is the premier program in the country.

  107. junkyard dawg says:

Your shocked – The should have stayed in ‘B’ with Nisky’s goalie out with the Chicken Pox they would have won another State Title.

  108. jlombardi says:

    From Middletown:

    West Islip 13, Yorktown 8

West Islip will play Orchard Park on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. in the Class A state championship game at Paetec Park in Rochester.

  109. junkyard dawg says:

    What could have been.

  110. jlombardi says:

    That’s a final — 13-8 West Islip.

  111. Conor says:

Prep-Ridgefield is set to begin soon.

  112. junkyard dawg says:

Tundo going for State Title in Lacrosse – he already has one in Football. Maybe the only coach ever to do both.

  113. jade says:

Lowdi nice defense, town will never win another state championship, they will lose the section in class b next year, the dragon is slayed

  114. LacrosseInsider says:

I am going to take a lot of grief on here from the TOWN faithful but I must say that this has to be one of the most disappointing finishes ever for TOWN lax. First off, I picked TOWN to win this game and was really hoping that would come true. That being said, on paper this was TOWN’s year to win it all. From the entire close D and goalie coming back, to the JHU bound Ranagan and KI, this was the year to win it all. Very, very disappointing end to the season. Someone please tell me what happened today!

  115. jade says:

hey junkyard dog I know who you are!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  116. junkyard dawg says:

13 goals allowed and how many ‘All-Americans’ do they have??

  117. junkyard dawg says:

And since when does a coach let his team make a decision of what class they should play in. Isn’t that the AD and coaches choice. This decision can hurt them for years!!

  118. junkyard dawg says:

I’m a Yorktown Alum and you guys are a B school and you do this. VERY DISAPPOINTING!

  119. jade says:

    LOL!!!!!!!!!!!! Town is Done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  120. junkyard dawg says:

You guys said this was the best yorktown team ever – i beg to differ!

  121. LacrosseInsider says:

dawg – who are you and where did you come from….do you only come out when your team beats up on someone….pathetic

  122. L-Island says:

    Hey joe

    you have stats

  123. jade says:

Even if they stayed in class B somers or nisky would of beat them. Can you say overated

  124. Conor says:

Mike Carey makes it 1-0 Prep with a rip from up top.

  125. junkyard dawg says:

I think 6 of our state championships would have killed you. We were bigger faster and stronger. You guys did a lot of talking and in the end didn’t get it done!

  126. junkyard dawg says:

‘B’ title to Nisky without a starting goalie (what could have been)??????????

  127. LAX says:

Some of you guys really need to calm down. As the last hope for section 1 I was really rooting for Town but I definitely wasn’t expecting them to win. If Town came close to WI I would say that’s a good game. I just think WI is in another league this year shared with only a few teams in the country. Tremendous season Yorktown and how could anyone criticize town for wanted to play better competition?

  128. Conor says:

It’s 3-2 Prep. Bailey has added two more for Prep, Walsh and Vazquez have scored for the Tigers. Matt White is wearing #34.

  129. jade says:

    Dawg refresh your browser. LOL

  130. Syracuse says:

To any of you who were concerned … Dillon Boos is in uniform, on the field and warming up for Sayville.

  131. jade says:

bad day for section 1 lax a lot of hype. how can you lose when you have 4 all americans and a sick defense like town has

  132. junkyard dawg says:

Is Guilderland and Lakeland better than Somers and Nisky – I don’t think so!!!!!!!!!!

  133. Conor says:

Jake Hyatt makes two big saves. Prep defenseman Glenn Maiorano then gets the crowd going with a vicious cross check on Aaron Mathias. Matt Baker scores with a snipe on the ensuing man up. 3-3.

  134. Conor says:

Chase Bailey hits pipe to end a great first quarter. 3-3 still.

  135. twinlax says:

Conor, do you have a Simsbury/Glastonbury final yet?

  136. junkyard dawg says:

Lax and insider you just don’t understand. Us Alumni are disappointed when they say this is the best team ever. They had two players that could have played on our teams. Two only!! Do you get it now.

  137. Conor says:

Bailey picks Jake Hyatt’s pocket on a clear and scores. 4-3 Prep.

  138. junkyard dawg says:

Nisky will take the TITLE! Sorry TOWN(a’s). Too good for a B title! The Crop has let the whole town down!

  139. LacrosseInsider says:

Who said this is the best TOWN team ever? I don’t think anyone said that, however, this is the best TOWN team in a few years and on paper had a great chance to win it all.

  140. Conor says:

Matt White sets up Baker for a wicked bounce. It’s 4-4 with 8 to go in the second.

  141. junkyard dawg says:

Who said on paper the had the best chance to win it all. I know West Islip didn’t think so. I know many of us Alumnist didn’t think so! Where are you from Lakeland?

  142. jade says:

Crop not good bad job, you let your entire school down.

  144. LAX says:

I agree I don’t recall ever hearing that actually, if it was said that this is the best town team ever it’s definitely not true no disrespect to this years team which is awesome as well. I think town just needed some more offensive depth last year, especially at middie to help out Ranagan. Town’s offense last year was better but defense was better this year based on the fact that they returned almost everyone.

  145. LacrosseInsider says:

Dawg – If you think that they did not have a great chance on paper to win it all then you are really an idiot and clearly not an alum. After last season’s loss to Syosset and the talent that they brought back this was a great chance for them. With that I am done with you.

  146. Conor says:

Baker notches a hat trick with an upper corner laser. 5-4, Ridgefield.

  147. LAX says:

meant to say they needed more offensive depth this year not last year

  148. junkyard dawg says:

Syosset is no West Islip. Rocky, Froats and Ranagan a 3rd middie can I say more. You don’t get the game!

  149. jade says:

Yorktown will be lucky to even get to the sectional finals next year in class B Somers and JJ will both be better then them

  150. Conor says:

Harley Brown is doing a good job on White, who has struggled with accuracy in the early going.

  151. Syracuse says:

UPDATE: The skies have opened up in Middletown and its looks like either Nisky or Sayville will have to swim to Rochester.

  152. jade says:

    is nisky starting goalie in?

  153. Conor says:

White’s feed to Galione on the crease allows the Tigers to make it 6-4 with 27 ticks in the half.

  154. Syracuse says:

    Jade,

I will try to find out for you.

  155. Indian J says:

Yorktown had a great year. As far as the best Yorktown team ever I would say either 92 or 93 but that of course is an opinion and somebody will always disagree. Jade, please don’t say foolish things like Town will be lucky to be in the sectional finals. Really? Come on. Not only will they be there but John Jay will have to play their absolute best game to beat them. Yorktown will probably be favored going in.

West Islip is just fantastic this year. We all knew it.

  156. dee-up says:

Hey junk & jade , I’m not from town but a lax fan and you two need to get some class. You two put a blemish on your win. Win with some class it goes a long way. The only thing i can think is your probably immature H.S. kids( yet still no reason). I came on to get updates and pass along congratulations to the winners , but W/E

  157. Syracuse says:

According to his own parents, Nisky goalie James Manchester is out with the chicken pox

  158. no one says:

dawg, for someone who says they are an alumn, you certainly have a lot of hate there, dont know what your beef is, doubt you even lived in yorktown, but give it a rest, the better team won, i am not from yorktown but your tone ceratinly tells me you are either not from town and have a chip on your shoulder from being slapped by them or some loser who never could get past the 4th string and had to carry the water bucket your whole lax carrer

  159. Syracuse says:

UPDATE: Nisky takes 1-0 lead on goal by Jared Franze with 7:25 left in 1st.

  165. Syracuse says:

UPDATE: Panneton ups Nisky’s lead back up to 4-2, with 3:01 to go in 1st.

  166. jade says:

    who is ridgefield playing?

  167. Syracuse says:

UPDATE: Nisky longpole Abba makes it 5-2 with 1:45 to go in 1st. This Nisky team is clearly no joke.

  168. Conor says:

Griff McGoldrick has made it 7-6 for the Jesuits.

  169. Syracuse says:

    Jade,

If you want to chat at another time, feel free to e-mail me at syracuse@lexlessons.com

  170. Syracuse says:

UPDATE: Panneton completes first-quarter hat trick as Nisky now leads 6-2 with 23 seconds to play.

  171. Syracuse says:

    End of 1: Nisky 6, Sayville 2

The Warriors have come out firing and appear to have simply too much in too many area for Sayville to handle.

  172. Conor says:

    Jade – Fairfield Prep

  173. jade says:

is the ridgefield game the state champioship?

  174. Syracuse says:

UPDATE: Justin McKinney makes it 7-2 Nisky with 9:45 left in 2nd.

  175. Syracuse says:

Jade — State Class L semifinals

  176. jade says:

wow if ridgefield loses that not good

  177. Syracuse says:

UPDATE: Rogers gets Sayville within 7-3 with 8:24 left in 2nd.

  178. Conor says:

Galione ties it, but Prep’s Bailey converts an alley oop in response. Shanley makes it 9-7 at the buzzer.

  179. Conor says:

Colin Scott responds with a nifty wormburner. 9-8 Prep, nine to go.

  180. jade says:

now everyone knows what yorktown opted to go up to class A. If they lose in the semi finals no big deal, but if they lose in the regionals to nisky with the great team town has it would hit the fan. Nisky would man handle town.

  181. Conor says:

Galione ties it with a great move from X. 9-9.

  182. jade says:

we now know why yorktown opted to go A, because nisky would beat them

  183. Syracuse says:

UPDATE: Franze scores his second of the game, increasing Nisky’s lead to 8-3 with 3:49 left in 2nd.

  189. Conor says:

10-10 now, four to go. Talk about seesaw.

  190. Syracuse says:

UPDATE: Niskayuna 9, Sayville 3 (half)

  191. Sr.Raga says:

Wow Y-town fans… you really thought you had a chance… of course you did.. every fan thinks his or her team will win…

I originally come from the “lakeland” area… I saw many a good (lakeland (prepanas)/y-town) teams in the late 80’s early 90’s… those were some great guys… as well as some good/borderline great JJ teams along the way…

but now, that I am out on the island – i see that the lax out here is a bit different… (i dont know maybe it is the times or i am in a different stage in my life) but the lax out here is definetely a notch above…

I say this with a heavy heart… but many of the teams out here would have beat that y-town team… (regardless of ABC)…

I am sure ill get flak for that – but remember my heart belongs to sect 1…. and my son walks proudly around WI with Y-town and PV apparel… (even the laughable JFK sorry kennedy catholic)

    but remember…

there is always next year… and always another town out there that will surprise everyone…

Work hard do your best – and that is why they play the games…

GOOD LUCK NEXT YEAR TO EVERYONE!!!!

  192. jade says:

nisky very impressed without your starting goalie. This goes to show you dont need a great goalie if you have sick defense.

  193. Conor says:

    Prep ball, 1 to go.

  194. no one says:

    jade,

i don’t think any team in the nation would avoid nisky to play the likes of wi, get over yourself, enjoy the ride, but seems yorktown beat g-land just as bad as nisky did the first time, and could only score 7 on jj, so given common opponents don’t know where you get your statements from. yorktown simply wanted an attempt at playing the big schools and a chance to win it all in “a”, as far as next year goes, jj will be much improved, somers a step back without jo jo and like other great programs, yorktown will reload with unknowns. enjoy the ride, but it isn’t over this season yet. good luck though would like to see them go all the way

  195. Sr.Raga says:

ps no disrespect to the Western part of NY – I hadnt seen you play – but you guys have always had game – just cant comment on it so much….

  196. just a fan says:

I was at the Town game and honestly figured it would be a tough matchup for them. Due to lovely traffic on 17 I made it for the second half only. The better team won today but take nothing away from Yorktown for a great season. Every year it seems the doubters hit them and they consistently are a solid team. Best of luck to the senoirs at the next level.

  197. Conor says:

    Rotanz wins it for Prep.

  198. Conor says:

Tough way for White & Co. to go out.

  199. Sr.Raga says:

Just a fan – well said!!!!

Good luck to all on the next level – whether in lax or life…

  205. Syracuse says:

  206. Cards Lax says:

The great and powerful Ridgefield squeaks by Darien and loses to Prep in the semis???

If this is the golden team for Ridgefield and they almost lost to NC and Darien in FCIAC and then got beat by Prep in CIAC they are in big trouble next year

  207. Syracuse says:

UPDATE: Mellynchuk cuts it to 13-6 with 27 ticks left in 3rd

  214. Syracuse says:

    FINAL: Canandaigua 12, Jamesville-DeWitt 6

  215. TOWN LAX says:

great season town. WI is a great team but if town played their best lax i dont know any team that could beat them. obviously they didnt bring their best game to the feild tonight but it was a great effort by the whole team and seniors played their heart out. Mabus and Schuldt really showed their strength, they are in 10th grade and playing very well vs. the top schools in the nation. that just shows that yorktown will never be out of the running and will come back strong again nxt year….the CROP will too

  216. Y-town Crop Member says:

Hey everyone…I know that the Yorktown v. West Islip game ended in tears for all the Yorktown fans, but i wanted to point out a couple positives that came out of the game.
1- Sophmores Ty Schuldt and Justin Mabus are only going to get better and have more of an impact next year.
2- Junior attackman Kevin Interlicio was shut down and did not have as much of an impact as possible but will be around again for next year.
3- The Yorktown Crop is still very much alive and ready to come back strong next year.
Great season yorktown and good luck in the future!

  217. Syracuse says:

    FINAL: Niskayuna 15, Sayville 8

Niskayuna will take on Canandaigua in the Class B state championship game on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Paetec Park in Rochester.

  218. Laxforfun says:

All the teams in section 1 played hard all season. Bravo to Yorktown for wanting to stay in A even though they knew it would be a tough road. Bravo to Somers for winning the Section 1 Class B championship with a first year coach, having numerous players return after not playing and making a huge impact on the team. Bravo to Putnam Valley for unseeding Rye. INFACT BRAVO TO ALL OF SECTION ONE…

  220. THE CROP says:

Why are you talking down the crop so much without reason, are you obsessed or jealous..i dont know which…do you want to be a part of it next year? Do you wish you had your own crop? Would you say something to someones face rather then over the internet?

Yorktown lacrosse, and all 3 main sports this year for that matter, have made everyone in the stands crowd..seeing how many kids were at the ossining football game, county center for bball, and tonights in middletown is awesome..making the trips to all 3 and taking over a huge section of the stands. Me and my friends we’re talking in the last seconds of the game tonight about how much of a blast we have had the last 4 years in the stands dating back to the JV years. We’ve had a ball especially for the last 2 and seeing our last game was very saddening, when your classmates and even students your not friends with are patting u on the back saying you did a good job with the whole crop idea, its a great feeling.

town lost tonight, but were a great team but the season ended earlier then we would have liked, but it’s been a real pleasure watching them for 4 years, couldnt of asked for more. dont hate, appreciate.

well, the comment i was responding to was deleted..so that really shoots down my most recent post. lol

  223. Joe Lombardi says:

    CROP –

I was in transit from Middletown otherwise Jade’s comment would have been removed the moment it was up.

We encourage spirited debates and passionate arguments, but don’t waste our time, Jade, with pot shots that do not advance the conversation in any way, shape or form, and in this case, were without basis.

Jade also made a separate comment with inappropriate language on an unrelated topic that did not make it through our filter.

So Jade – consider this a public warning. Your last.

  224. twinlax says:

yeah, Yorktown stayed in A cause they were ducking Nisky….so they could draw pushovers like West Islip, Ward Melville or West Genesee. That has to be the most ludicrous post I’ve seen in a while.

Congrats to all the teams on a fine season. The finals should be good matchups. Besides the classic Sect 3 – LI battle in C, you have teams from two sections who I believe have never won a state title before in B, and a bit of a dark horse in Orchard Park going up against mighty WI.

  225. Joe Lombardi says:

OK, gang. Now that I’m back in front of a computer, I have updated all the NYS and CIAC quarterfinal scores and upcoming matchups in the main body. Here is NYS:

Most importantly, congrats to Town for not leaving anything on the field today!! Congrats to all the seniors for a great high school career and good luck to all in college lacrosse be it varsity, club, and in all other endeavors. the players and Town program are a class act.

Let’s give credit to WI. I wanted Town to win but to be objective I agree with LAX (as usual) that Town was definitely playing a superior team (“Slip” hit the post numerous times so the margin could have been another 4-5 goals) who outplayed Town in all phases of the game.

Good luck to Slip on Sat and to Town coming back strong next year.

  227. Joe Lombardi says:

    Final Yorktown-WI team stats:

    West Islip 13, Yorktown 8

    Shots — WI 32, Ytown 23
    SOG — WI 22, Ytown 14
    Saves — WI 6, Ytown 9
    Faceoffs — WI 13, Ytown 12
    GB — WI 38, Ytown 31
    Turnovers — WI 22, Ytown 27
    Clears — WI 26/30, Ytown 24/27
    Man-ups WI 2/3, Ytown 2/4

Be sure to check back tomorrow for video highlights and a video conversation I had after the game with Lions star Nicky Galasso, who had 3-1. Teammate Shane Craig had 4-1.

  228. slacrosse says:

Sett over Lafayette due to Sett having MORE quality players PLUS Sett’s stronger SOS.

    12-7 Sett.

  229. taz says:

OK so after the drive back from Middletown and losing all the wet clothes…..

Class C – Not much to talk about in this game. Manhasset probably the best game they’ve played this year. Manhasset/Lafayette has the potential to be an incredible game. English his usual dominating self. Great games by Molinari and goalie Meyer. PV goalie someone to keep an eye on – made some great saves.

‘Town-WI – This was a beating. All the matchups people talked about – UNC/Hopkins, Galasso/Fennesy, Ranagan/Bradish, etc etc – all one sided. Lieberman has the most impressive game for ‘Town. Bonitatibus also played well. Ranagan had 1 nice goal in play, 1 up top on an open EMO shot with blown coverage, and 1 in junk time. He seemed to be fatigued possible because of the WI pressure. WI either poled him or played shutoff every time down the field. WI #7 (Conner ?) consistently beat him on faceoffs especially in the 2nd half. ‘Town runs him in to the ground but for a guy his size he was not physically dominating inthis game. (Wet field but he falls down a lot for someone his size)

Galasso/Fennesy – ‘Town did well for a while in the 1st quarter. Then Galasso destroyed him. Got his shots and had some great feeds, some not finished. IL talks all about Bradish but Hodgson is the best middie on this team. All over the field both offensively and defensively. Bradish not nice moves but he doesn’t finish. Shane Craig had an excellent game.

KI was INVISIBLE. Played straight up. Scored once when his pole left to double (bad decision). Tonight’s game should stop all that talk about him being All Region this year.

If these teams played 10 times, WI would win 8 or 9. WI much better than I thought – originally thought their schedule could make them seem better than they are. Not true. On LI would love to see them play Manhasset this year but think they might have too much midfield depth for Manhasset.

  230. lax8219 says:

Beating Darien twice in one year, winning an FCIAC championship, having 1 loss the whole season to an amazing prep school in Lawrenceville, and losing by 1 goal to a Prep team that always peaks in the postseason is hardly underachieving. How about the golden team that Greenwich had last year Cards Lax? hmm they lost 3 times to a young Ridgefield team, and got 0 championships. Ridgefield looks good for next year, as many juniors have stepped up lately, and Darien and Prep do not seem to have alot of underclass talent. Ridgefield has had a great year and should be proud, and Congratulations to Prep on a huge win.

  231. sec1 says:

Taz, Galasso had a nice game and is a great player, destroyed Fenn I dont think so, got the better of Fenn yes.. KI should have been a bigger factor, goalie made two nice saves on him in first half, also he was not played straight up all game please.. Ranagan was banged up and was trying to do way to much, also Ranagan is better than any middie on WI… The best team won!!

  232. laxbus says:

    ;^)

  233. laxbus says:

    Syracuse, Sec 1,

    Talk to me

  234. sec1 says:

jade you are a JOKE, junkyard dog if you are a Town Alum you should be ashamed the way you talk about your BROTHERS ASHAMED! One thing that you have right is there have been many Town Teams who were better than this one, and what you have wrong is they said because they are parents that dont know any better and some journalist and cable networks who have not been around long enough, but this TEAM has YORKTOWN across their chest and when you spank St Anthonys beat Chaminade (both the last two yrs) and Darien dont lose to anyone in your Section, win the MURPHY Cup Win your Section They are going to think somethings that might not be true.. This Yorktown Team is very good and when it brings the A game can beat most, I hope we do not know each other because if we do we will have to talk about what it means to be from Yorktown!!!!!

  235. sec1 says:

Laxbus your team is for real I hope they win it all,. the D is great and the O is alot better than I thought. I was going up to the Finals if Town won but now I am not so sure. Your Championship game will be much more diffacult but I think Nisky can win it…

  236. LI Lax says:

Nisky’s offense impressed me a lot, their defense wasn’t quite as good as I thought it was gonna be. Sure, their defense is good but the ridiculous numbers are probably due to the fact that most of the teams in section 2 just aren’t very good. Their offense however played extremely well, they move it around better than just about any team ive seen and they have three legit scorers led by McKinney with Franze and Panneton being great compliments. Nisky is a legitimate top 10 team in the nation. I will be rooting for them against CA and I do think that they are going to win.

    Nisky 10 CA 7

  237. laxbus says:

Thanks for the nice comments. The boyz played great. Not even chicken pox will hold us down. It will be a tough game but Nisky is on a mission…

  238. ytown says:

first of all this team put its heart on the line, and ranagan gave it his all the whole game and all season, no one can question that. Second of all, in my opinion this team was not as good as last years team that should have on the states against a weaker syosset team. They played their hearts out and lost to a better WI team so they should be congratulated this season and all the ytown fans should think back to the last couple of years and thank all those great players that have come through there because i for one do not see many greats coming through there for some time to come

  239. taz says:

Sec1 – I agree I’d love to have Ranagan on any team I put together! And said ‘Town ran him in to the ground. Do think he’ll have to improve his stick skills @ Hop but with his size and speed he has huge potential at the next level. No question best middie on the field although Hodgson is a game changer.

Maybe destroyed was the wrong word. but Galasso definitely got whatever he wanted in the matchup – late in the 1st qtr Galasso scored after a battle where Fennesey played him extremely well, it was sort of a battle of wills – it seemed that the matchup went NG’s way after that.

Still maintain KI was played straight up. Part of the issue with players that are so hyped, and especially with younger players, is that the pressure can become overwhelming. I thought KI seemed to press especially as the game went on. Will say that neither KI or NG was much on riding last night!

There’s no insult in losing to WI this year. This is a fast, aggressive, skilled, and deep team.

  240. Old Rugger says:

Congrats to Ytown & PV on some great Lax this year. WI and Man just better.
What I would like to see is
    Nisky
    OP
    LAF

What I think I’ll see is
    WI 13 OP 7
    Nisky 11 CA 6
    Man 13 Laf 10

  241. playURbest says:

Go Town Girls…Good Luck today….Bring Home the State Title!

  242. Section I Lax says:

Let’s be honest here, Town was a huge let down this year… They talked like they were going to bring it old school like the early 90’s and they didn’t. Still an impressive year and something to be proud of but not anything to brag about.

Ridgefield started the year like they were something special and ended it with a whimper. They’re not as good as they think they are and will take their lumps next year.

Greenwich was starting 5 sophomores this year and still did OK. Wilton, NC, Darien, look out the FCIAC is back.

NY teams get on your horses and set up the CONNY rivalries!

  243. LaxTruth says:

It is amazing how quiet evryone becomes when the game of the year was a huge disappointment. WI handedly stomped Y’town. I was embarassed for Y’ttown. Ranagan resemebled the Jim Brown school of Lacrosse. Which has been offically closed. He was exhausted in the 1st Quarter, not sure what his game preparation consisted of but please… At one point he had his back to the goal, and blindly thru the ball over his shoulder towards the cage. WHY? Are you kidding me? and he is going to play D1 lacrosse anywhere? His capabilites are severely over-inflated, and very much artifical. He literally had more drop balls, turnovers, and throwaways than the entire Y’town team combined. Run the stats and you will agree. Where Interlicio even in the game?

I predicted 14-5, it was sloppy, but I over estimated WI, in general. They are not nearly as strong as years past either. Nisky wins either Class State title this year.

Nisky, once again, pulls their 1st line, and sends in the 2nd line Offense in the 4th Quarter. Puts their 3 line Goalie in. Sayville wasthe most un sportsman like team I believe I have ever witnessed in the game of lacrosse.

I predicted a 10 goal differential, it was 7. BUT should have been 12 if Nisky leaves in their 1st line team.

  244. jade says:

Yorktown lost because they had Ranagan try to be the show, that is why he was gassed in the first quarter. He tried to do it all himself. I think if they played as a team he wouldnt have to do it all himself. But I will tell you this Ranagan is a hard working kid who will do great at the next level when he does not have to be the man. Interlichio needs to work on his speed.

  245. slacrosse says:

    LaxTruth,

Take nothing away from this game in rating JR. The “truth” is that JR is going to be a fantastic player at JH. Petro will take his size, speed, aggressiveness and sick shot and with JR’s work ethic, improve on all of these in an offense where he is surrounded by other super players AND DOESN’T HAVE TO PRESS OR FEEL HE MUST “DO IT ALL” to win.

I believe some of his mistakes as you pointed out came from him pressing too much, trying to force things, etc. I’m not absolving JR of doing these things or Marr for not correcting/adjusting JR. BUT I am saying that this is not a sign of “severely over-inflated abilities. This kid has great D1 middie talent.

JR has a great heart and many people have praised him for being a “throw-back” player who did all on the field. But ironically doing everything on the field MAY BE JUST TOO MUCH for JR. Not only did he not win too many faceoffs but doing them (and losing) most of the time takes a physical (and maybe mental) toll. Although he was given breathers, I sensed he was wearing down a bit.

I think JR has a good lacrosse head on his shoulders and if he “felt” that the O was churning he would have stepped back a bit and helped make it happen. With KI and I think Casey not scoring he was pressing. Its up to the coaches to see waht’s happening on the field and control the emotions and correctly channel the efforts of “beasts” like JR.

Again combining the raw lacrosse abilities plus HEART of JR plus coaching of Petro will make him a great D1 middie

  246. slacrosse says:

KI is a great kid with an awesome shot. If he has a clear shot , its likely a goal. If he starts backing somewhat up near the goal he has great balance and leverage to find room to score.

What I’d like to see him improve on is his dodging ability, feet quickness, etc so that he’s better able to create on his own, to “deek” guys, run around them and either shoot or pass (on top of slowly backing guys up to score as I mentioned above).

    Good luck next season KI!

He’s improved greatly from last yr to this season and he can and will definitely continue to improve his game.

  247. LaxTruth says:

I agree with many of your justifications. In a nutshell, they were out coached as a program. Yorktown has a good program, vs. team. If they had allowed all the components of the team to play their role, it may have created more opportunity for Y’town.

JR- un questionalble heart, but the business of D1 lacrosse, they all have it. He must transform to a new age lacrosse player. Not attempting to bully his way around the field. I would have expected a more astute lax “head” in a game of that magnitude.

  248. slacrosse says:

    LaxTruth,

    Thanx for the reply.

Agree with your point about “keeping your head” in the game. JR must be responsible for keeping a cool lax head but I do feel more onus should be on the coaches to CLEARLY HELP a kid to keep his cool. Its their job! Pull him out, talk to him, etc, etc. GET IT THROUGH TO HIM. Hey it happens to the best. Waht about Cornell’s coach losing his “lax head” in the last moments of the cuse game (not calling time, etc., having the wrong guys handling the ball)

  249. THEGilmanfan says:

I finally made my first trip to the state of NY and was able to see the “downstate” A/B semifinal games. I’ll start this post by telling a story of my drive back to MD last night. Cloverdale and I left Long Island at about 12:30 at night and I decided to just use my GPS to get home. I could tell that it was taking me a different way than when I had come into NY, but I was fine with that. So eventually we go through the Brooklyn Tunnel (remember I have no idea where any of these roads/bridges/tunnels take you) and we ended up in a place that looked kind of like a city, it was EXTREMELY foggy so I couldn’t see much around me. After going a few blocks and taking a wrong turn out of the tunnel, we realize we’re in Manhattan… So my GPS keeps messing up because whenever it is processing the directions to go down a certain road, I passed that road before it told me to go onto it (didn’t realize that at the time). So we finally get some solid directions from the GPS and we make a couple turns and the GPS keeps acting up. Well finally we get to some place that we kind of recognize from TV and we saw the Lion King sign, and the GPS tells me to turn left at the light. I turn onto the road and BAM… I’m in times square. Could any of you imagine being in the largest city in the country, not knowing where you are going and blindly stumbling onto times square? It was one of the best experiences I’ve had under such bad circumstances. I even got a picture from my camera phone. Sorry for the little ramble, but I thought it was a good story and figured a few of you could get a little laugh out of it.

    West Islip v. Yorktown:

To be honest, I was expecting a much better game. I will say that I am VERY impressed by the athleticism of West Islip. They could be one of the most athletic teams I’ve seen play in the past few years, especially on defense. I really thought WI had a wonderful game plan against Ranagan, whenever he started driving towards the cage a double team came and they forced a lot of turnovers that way. That said, Ranagan is an absolute beast, he tried to do a little too much but no one else from Yorktown was stepping up, save for maybe Liebermann. I will say that I was pretty dissapointed in Interlicchio’s play, I don’t think he was a factor at all.

No one, at least on this thread has mentioned my player of the game yet. Hodgson played out of his mind. He only went 2-1 I believe but he was a force all over the field. He forced turnovers through stick checks and intercepting passes and had numerous groundballs. IMO, Towson is stealing this kid from a top 5 lacrosse school. Of course, I was very impressed by Galasso and Ian Braddish but the story of the day could be the younger Braddish brother, who did very well on faceoffs against Ranagan. I went to this game thinking Yorktown was going to win around 65% of the faceoffs and that simply did not happen. I also think Yorktown’s defense was really exposed. Their sliding was terribly late, if they came at all, and WI made them pay with some great finishes by Craig and Galasso.

    Niskayuna vs. Sayville

For all those Niskayuna doubters, whether in or out of NY, you are TERRIBLY wrong. This team is the real deal and I left this game a fan of their team. To be honest, they really looked like they belonged in the MIAA. Their ball movement was impeccable and they played agressive, finesse style defense. That kid #8 McKinney is one of the best lacrosse players I have seen in a while. With 5 goals and 3 assists, he really dominated Sayville’s lackluster defense. However, I was expecting a little more out of Niskayuna’s defense. All season they had averaged 2 goals against them per game, and recently against Somers they let up 5 goals which was the most a team has put up this season. I was talking to some of the Niskayuna parents (wonderful people btw) and someone mentioned that their starting goalie was out with the chicken pox, which could have been the cause for the 8 goals given up against Sayville.

On another note, I do agree with the posters on the forums that Sayville is a pretty dirty team. Boos is absolutely classless, at one point close to the end of the game he hit a Nisky player late and then proceeded to step on him. He really needs to grow up a little, be a man and accept that you loss. Trying to injure another player is completely uncalled for and him, his parents and school should be ashamed of his actions. I was pleased to see that Niskayuna didn’t try to retaliate physically, they just put up another goal to shut them up.

All in all, I don’t know which is the best team I saw today. If they played, it would be one hell of a game and I would definitely make another trip to NY to see it.

  250. Syracuse says:

Yorktown didn’t lose yesterday because Ranagan tried to do it himself. Nor did they lose because of any other specific reason.

Yorktown lost simply because West Islip is better. There’s no way other way to spin it. West Islip has a better attack, far superior midfield and a better team defense, not to mention 10 times the depth. West Islip is also coached much better than Yorktown — and that’s not to say Yorktown doesn’t have good coaching.

Losses like yesterday have happened over and over and over again, leaving the Town faithful holding on firmly to the past as a security blanket.

I was a big believer in the notion that Yorktown petitioning to stay up in A was a good thing. Play the best, beat the best, win that elusive A crown, etc., etc., etc. I still do applaud everyone involved for having that mentality.

But now I think the program has painted itself into such a corner with this whole classification thing it looks misguided if it stays in A and defeatist if it ever drops again to B, mostly because Yorktown has never really given much of a consistent indication that it can, indeed, win the Class A title.

Granted, last year Town should have gotten to the final. No matter how much people wanted to say “the 2009 Town team is the best Town ever” — a completely ridiculous notion if said on March 12, April 12, May 12 or June 12 — the 2008 team was far superior.

They didn’t replace Rocky B. and John Froats at midfield or Brendan Kurpis on attack. The value of those players was immeasurable. It wasn’t until very late in the 2009 season before many of the younger players started to show their potential — Mabus, Schuldt, Lieberman’s emergence, etc.

The bottom line is it feels like Yorktown is stuck in neutral as a program. It still produces great players, but doesn’t look like it has grasped the reality that the game has changed since the 1980s and early 1990s. When I say the game has changed I’m talking about the growth of the sport, the depth of quality teams from section to section. Yorktown hasn’t found that something that will keep them elite. I know that sounds harsh but the expectations in that town do not match the results.

It’s almost as if Yorktown has vacated the reputation as a great national program and has firmly entrenched itself as really a great regional power. One state final appearance this decade. That’s not the stuff of a team with known name like this should have.

Why did they do it so consistently in the 80s and 90s, but not now in the 21st century? There has to be a reason that goes beyond “well, everyone else just got better.” Those who say that are copping out. If the program is elite, it will find a way to stay viable in the state championship discussion. Beating Section 1, 9 and 2 competition is mandatory and Yorktown is exceptional at doing that, but it also adds fuel to the argument that the story ends there, especially when its next game — and now sometimes before that — invariably always ends with a loss.

It’s time for Yorktown — everyone from players, to fans, to alumni, to parents, to reporters — stop talking about what the program HAS accomplished and focus more on what it WILL accomplish. And then it has to go out and take steps toward getting what it wants.

Because anyone who says 18-3 and a loss to Long Island is another typically consistent and solid Yorktown season is missing the point of what this program is supposed to be about.

  251. Lax Novice says:

I think John Ranagan was the most outstanding player I saw play in person this year, and while I certainly haven’t seen everybody I will be putting him atop my list for the LaxLessons Regional Player of the Year. In general I think an outstanding midfielder who is responsible for many tasks outweighs an equally outstanding attackman, long pole or goalie with a more narrow responsibility, notwithstanding how important or talented they are at those positions. Trying too hard, as I understand a number of the Yorktown guys did yesterday, is nothing to be ashamed of, and neither is losing. Congrats to John and all the Yorktown seniors on a tremendous season.

    THEGilmanfan,

Thanks for the kind words. This team is a testimate to the coaches: Vorgang, Delano, and Williams. Nisky is what it is because of the. On the other side of the coin, Sayville (who’s coach was tossed in the qtrs and missed semis) is what they are because of the coaches. The coaches can control the kids…if they choose too…

    Respect the game

  256. laxbus says:

…Sayville had six penalties at the end of the game when Nisky had put in the 2nd an 3rd string and had stopped shooting…what is that about but the coaches not controlling the actions of their kids. Gilman Fan –

Excellent insights and thanks for sharing your GPS story. That really is unbelievable. The weather was so bad last night it was hard enough to find your way where you were going even if you knew exactly where you were, so I can just imagine what that must have been like.

You made one point I wanted to highlight. It’s funny how, now with just one day left in the season, we are circling back to it. Well, not funny, but you know what I mean.

At the outset of the season, I brought up the fact how lax has now become a game of athleticism over skill. We’ve seen it time and again. West Islip is both athletic and skilled. An unbeatable combination.

Anyway, here’s a comment I posted on April 6 right here touching on this. I found it interesting to reread now, in light of the way the season has evolved, including Somers beating John Jay twice in Section 1:

    Joe Lombardi
    Submitted on 2009/04/06 at 11:52pm

Newsflash: Lax has become a game of athleticism. Just about every college coach I talk to tells me they recruit athletes first, lax players second. Granted, the real great ones are both athletes and great lax players. But take a look at the Section 1 players who have gotten scholarships to play in college the last few years. They all have size and athleticism more than overwhelming lax skills. That’s just a fact.

And the percentage of Yorktown lax players who play football is dramatically lower than Somers. It’s been that way since Somers first beat Yorktown in ‘02. That’s also a fact. …

As UVa coach Dom Starsia said, “I have a team of 22 Division I-AA football players.” (The last time I checked, the Cavaliers were ranked No. 1.)”

  260. slacrosse says:

    Lax Novice,

This was never about anyone feeling that Town was not “trying/trying hard enough” or that Town had “nothing to be ashamed of”.

But as Cuse said NOW its time to move FORWARD. A program like Towns that ASPIRES to be the VERY BEST and a NATIONALLY RANKED ELITE TEAM NOW needs to STEP BACK and HARSHLY and OBJECTIVELY see what it must do to reach those lofty goals as was the case in the past. Applies to players, coaches, youth programs, etc.

If you’re satisfied with beating Section 1, 2,9 comp (prob not Nisky), stop here and “get off the train”. There is nothing to be ashamed about in this. But If you want to go further and consistently be playing in NY sate championships then stay on the train and figure out how to!!

To your other point I’d rather have a team be elite and WIN championship games with people that may “only” play a specific role at attack, middie, then have a team with a great multi-role middie that comes up short in championship games. Bottom line is winning.

  261. slacrosse says:

    The GilmanFan,

We gotta find a way to get a Gilman, West Islip game going!!

  262. THEGilmanfan says:

    Slacrosse,

I definitely agree. That would definitely become one of the greatest interstate rivalries in the country. Unfortunately for Suffolk, they are cutting the out of league games down to 2 a year next year, so I don’t see it happening for years to come. On another website someone asked me to compare West Islip to Gilman and this was my response:

I really think West Islip is one of the best teams I’ve seen all year, if I had to rank the teams I’ve seen in person or tape (full game not highlights)…

    1. Gilman
    2. WI
    3. Nisky very close to WI

I think West Islip has a phenomenal defense, very athletic and agressive that goes along with brilliant coaching. I think WI is a little more athletic than Gilman, but as far as talent goes, Gilman has more stars that West Islip has. Gilman’s starters are going to:

    Virginia
    UNC x2
    Georgetown
    Harvard (Baltimore POY)
    A junior going to UNC
A junior getting offers from MD/ND/Syracuse

This was our goalie’s first season starting, so he wasn’t recruited by anywhere big but I’ll tell you, the kid is great and played exceptionally well during the MIAA playoffs. I don’t know what would happen if the two teams played, I would think it would be a high scoring game. West Islip playing their middies both ways could possibly hurt Gilman, but Gilman is really deep and could possibly wear the WI defense out. I don’t think WI has seen an offense as explosive as Gilman, so it would be really interesting. I do think Harry Prevas, the UVA bound senior would do a much better job against Galasso than Fennessey did. However, I think Braddish, Craig, Hodgson and Galasso is more than the Gilman defense has seen, save for maybe Calvert Hall. I don’t want to give a predicition for a hypothetical game, as I haven’t seen West Islip play a top 10 team this year but it would certainly be a great game.

    CLARIFICATION.

In my final paragraph, end of 1st sentence, I of course was referring to the TEAM coming up short , NOT the individual multi-role middie.

  266. laxadasical says:

    Slacrosse,

Well Put, Totally agree with your underlying messages.

West Islip’s offense is geared to dodge from the top to create a slide so that the ball can move underneath, where hopefully another slide will occur leaving someone else with an even better opportunity. Dodge, 1, 2, or 3 passes for execution. Their offensive players are very unselfish and it’s obvious this is what they have been taught and learned over the years. Their offensive players are multi-dimensional. Yorktown’s offensive scheme does not resemble this at all, they like to rely on individual performances from the start of the offensive sequence to the end. KI and JR both tried to force offensive pressure on their own all evening and quite obviously were not successful. This is not to discredit them or their abilities at all because this is what they have been taught and allowed to do for years. Against weaker competition (which there is a lot of in section 1,2,9) this is not a problem, but when you meet the Long Island champ in the state semis year in and year out it ain’t gonna work. These 2 guys are not multi-dimensional players who dodge, see the open guy, draw a slide and dump, they have not developed these skills, this has to fall on the coaches shoulders, they have to teach these guys to play as a team, it will make better players of all. In order to win a state championship the TEAM CONCEPT has to arrive at Yorktown. The team concept is what you saw from West Islip last night. Don’t get me wrong West Islip was much deeper in speed, lax skills, etc and is the better team, but they all rely on each other, not any given individual.
When the ball is moving consistently it will allow everyone more opportunities, IE Remy Lieberman 3 goals on what 5 shots? The individual concept is what cost Yorktown last year when they were up 6-2 in the fourth in the semi’s, they didn’t take care of the ball, horrible shot selection, a couple of guys getting stripped trying to do too much on their own (a way too common theme).
Defensively, I would like to have seen Yorktown go to a tight zone early, there were mismatches all over the place. Mikey B kept the game closer than it was, Hats off to him.

  267. John FANagan says:

I’m a little upset at some of the posts I am reading from various bloggers across the board. Here are my main points and overall reaction…

    1) Please tell me how we The Crop should be ashamed of ourselves? For what? Being behind our team? Cheering them on, with that little aspiration of belief, even when a loss seemed inevitable? We made the long ride to Albany and to Middletown, because we wanted to show some support for our friends and for our school. Sure, we make some biased opinions on the blog, but why should we be ashamed for ourselves?

    2) All these comments criticizing Yorktown for making the move to Class A is completely ludicrous. I am cognizant of the talent that Niskayuna has, but what does Yorktown have to do in order to justify their move? First all of the haters criticized Yorktown because they wanted to escape the likes of Somers and John Jay. Well Yorktown beat both of them. Yorktown took down Nisky last year in the regional finals. Yorktown simply asked for a switch to Class A because they knew that in order to be the best, you have to beat the best; this year the best wasn’t Niskayuna and it wasn’t Somers or John Jay (and the best has never been any of those 3 teams)- everybody knew it was West Islip. To say that Yorktown was scared of Class B is ridiculous- it would be a great game vs Niskayuna, don’t get me wrong… but by no means did Yorktown make the move to Class A to avoid Niskyuna, give me a break.

    3) Yesterday, West Islip was just the better team. If Yorktown played like they did vs. Guilderland, the matchup would’ve been amazing, but it did not live up to they hype it was supposed to live up to. West Islip’s team defense was phenomenal and they made every possession difficult for Town. I honestly thought Yorktown was going to make a run to take the lead once they got it within 1 goal… but West Islip’s big time players stepped up their games. Great lacrosse by West Islip, and best of luck to them in the finals.

    4) As this was the last event for the Yorktown Boys Lax team, I just want to thank Joe Lombardi for everything he has done and said this year for Yorktown Lacrosse, The Crop, and the sport of lacrosse in the tri-state area. This is most likely my swan song for the school year on the blog. Until next year laxlessons.com, it’s been a great ride.

“You’re right. Lacrosse is definitely a year-round sport.

Later today, we will have video highlights from the West Islip-Yorktown game, shot by our videographer extraordinaire Ryan Rabidou.

Tomorrow, we will have live scoring updates on the NY and CT state finals.

In the coming days/weeks/months, we will be covering summer showcases, leagues and camps. We will also have recruiting news and notes.

On Saturday at midnight, we conclude our voting for attack on the LaxLessons.com all-region team and shift to midfield. Then it’s on to defense and goaltender.

We’ll also be presenting our final LaxLessons.com Top 25 regional rankings and then our LaxLessons.com 20-member all-region team and all-region player of the year and coach of the year.

In some ways, the coming weeks will be even more fun and action-packed than during the season. So be sure to keep visiting here a few times each day so you don’t miss out on anything.”

  271. Re-LAX-N says:

Well it was a great run For Town this year, but we came up alittle short. A lot was expected from this team and I applaud them for making it to the State Semis. For those of us who have played in such games as well as in State finals . I know ,you know how much hard work and dedication it takes. I am sure Yorktown has nothing to hang their heads about. As for the people who are dissing Town. Can your school/team(Other than West Islip) atleat win a state championship in Lacrosse first before you start with the hating?. We were winnig Secional championships, and STATE TITLES before alot of you even had programs we Won in both A-B. In addition We lost a few State Championships as well . But atleast we were in them. So before you trash Town ask yourselves how many State Lacrosse championships can you hang your flag pole.. I can’t wait until next year because I know Town will be in the tournament. And by the way the Town girls won today so they will be playing for another State Championship tomorrow. A special thanks to all the Seniors who played their last game yesterday. you made us all proud. Go TOOOWWWNNN. And Finally Let’s remember theese are High School students, playing a game. Most of them will be going off to college, and probably not play beyond that point. Can’t we all just get along????

  272. John FANagan says:

alright joe, with your words and wisdom- i will be back

  273. fD1Laxer says:

    THEGilmanfan/slacrosse,

A trip down memory lane: “back in the day”, before school size class distinctions and state tournaments in NY, it was tradition for some LI teams to get in school buses and go down for better weather and good competition and play a series of games in the Baltimore area. For example, 1973 matchup with Huntington at Gilman; 9-8 Gilman win in double OT; Gilman goes on to win MD state title; Huntington crushes Ward Melville 14-7 for Suffolk title, but loses to one of the best teams ever in East Meadow 8-5 in LI Championship for unofficial state title. Too bad -could be some epic clashes today.

  274. slacrosse says:

    fD1Laxer,

Lets bring those days back!! I know Garden City has played St Pauls the last few yrs down in Pa or Balt. There is some reason (??) why MIAA teams cant come up here.

  275. slacrosse says:

    John FANagan,

Firstly couldn’t tell if your graduating, If so good luck. If not look forward to you and the CROP in the stands next year. Town’s got great and dedicated fans.

    To your points in order:
    1) No way anyone at Town should be ashamed of the teams effort and the Crop’s sometimes biased rooting and blogs are part of the game for rabid fans.

    2) No way Town backed away for B to “avoid” anyone. They just wanted to put themselves in a position to play for the A title and they were good enough to try and do so. Besides leaving B gave Somers and Jay (and others) an easier chance to win the B and play for the state title. I cant believe somers and Jay didn’t like Towns decision! but not Mahopac and LP!!!

    3) Here I must disagree. Guilderland is not in the same universe as WI. Even if Town had played as they did vs Guild, Town would have been way over-matched, WI is THAT good. Remember that WI hit the post at least 5 times! Also maybe WI will say THEY could have played better as well.

Have a good summer and look forward to seeing you on the blog next season.

Assume the CROP/you will be in action for Town’s football season???

  276. slacrosse says:

Town in Class A or B?

Understand West Islip has 4000 kids in grades 9-12!! Town has what, maybe 2400? Lets say 50% are guys. That gives WI 2000 boys to choose from vs Town choosing from 1200. 800 more boys in the mix for WI!!

One could argue that just on these numbers alone maybe Town should not be playing in A. They already have a super tough out of Section 1 sched which gives them deserved stature. Combining this SOS with a Class B NY State championship would be great and give Town all the elite NATIONAL status they realistically need.

Also Manhassat, a small high school in Class C has never had any trouble being highly nationally ranked , considered elite, and sending lots of players to the best D1 schools.

Anyway just throwing this out for discussion.

  277. Syracuse says:

    Slacrosse,

Yorktown is lucky to have 1,100 kids in the high school. They are a B school, so technically that means they have far less than that. I don’t think Yorktown has ever had more than 1,300 or so students, even back in the days long ago when they played White Plains, Mount Vernon, New Rochelle and Arlington in basically every sport (yes, that was a very long time ago). Mahopac is a vastly bigger school than Yorktown, but it probably doesn’t have close to 2,000.

When I graduated, my class had 285 students. We were a B school then, so I can’t imagine the class sizes ever having more than maybe 300 each.

  278. Cards Lax says:

Joe, can you post the 8-11 grade numbers for some of the more talented programs?

Every year schools submit 8-11 to see wha the next hs group will look like. My guess is Town is around 1200 and Pac is around 1800.

  279. Re-LAX-N says:

    Cuse,

Do you have any Idea when the schedules are discussed or decided?. And was it economics, that prevented a more varied schedule this year, Example I know Town and L/P played Long Island Schools as well as Conn schools this past year. But traditionally I seem to recall Yorktown playing atleast one school from M.D. each year. Any thoughts. Are you going to be reporting from Rochester?

  280. slacrosse says:

    Cuse, Cards Lax, Others,

While I originally backed T’s decision to stay in A now think B is the way to go for Town.

  281. John FANagan says:

    slax…

only a junior… and i will promise you that the crop has just begun to grow its fall harvest… we will indeed be in full effect for football season.

  282. John FANagan says:

soccer season too… i mean i am on the team

  283. THEGilmanfan says:

    Slacrosse and FD1lacrosse,

The reason MIAA teams don’t travel up north is because by the time the NY teams start playing games, they are beginning their in conference schedule. Typically teams in the MIAA play on Tuesday/Friday so to schedule a game with a LI team would be pretty difficult as they only get 3 (next year 2) out of section games. The past few years GC has played St. Paul’s at Haverford and maybe Princeton. Also, I had no idea that Gilman had played Garden City back in the 1970s.

Also Joe, I wanted to apologize for my multiple posts of the same thing. For some reason it wasn’t posting my comments whenever I hit submit comment. If there is a way to delete some of them, go right ahead.

  284. Joe Lombardi says:

    Cards Lax –

Here is the breakdown along with a sampling enrollments for some of the top programs in Section 1:

    Boys Lacrosse
    Class A 1,100 & up
    Class B 650-1,099
    Class C/D 0-649

    White Plains, 1,737
    Mahopac, 1,332
    Suffern, 1,187
    Yorktown, 1,029
    Greeley, 1,021
    John Jay, 967
    Brewster, 921
    Somers, 731
    Byram Hills, 623
    Rye, 604
    Putnam Valley, 471

    Combined enrollments:

    Lakeland, 880
    Panas, 693

  285. Syracuse says:

    Re-LAX-N

I am not going to Rochester. I am, however, leaving on a short vacation after I finish writing this comment to you.

Yorktown played 24 games last year, but budget cuts section and state-wide eliminated several games this year, including the annual trip to Maryland and the trend of opening the season vs. an Albany team. The fact that at Shen didn’t come here either shows the budget crunch hit everyone. As bad as we think we have it here in Section 1 economically the situation is likely far worse upstate.

Think about it, the Empire State Games is no more, and considering it was supposed to be in Westchester this year if they couldn’t even pull it off in the richest county in the state it stands to reason they couldn’t hold it anywhere.

As GilmanFan explained MIAA schools have their reasons why they don’t come up north.

    Have a great weekend.

  286. Syracuse says:

    And lastly …

I thank you Luis Castillo …

  287. LI Lax says:

Whoever posted that WI has 4000 kids in their HS is completely wrong. The only HS bigger than that on LI is Brentwood, and they haven’t been a lax power since the 1960s. Floyd comes close, but still doesn’t make it. WI does not even have 2000 students total, so less than 1000 boys to choose from.

    Suffolk grades 9-11 enrollments

    Brentwood 3826
    Floyd 2473 (#2)
    WM 1899
    WI 1373
    Smithtown East 1266
    Smithtown West 1073
    Wogue 927
    Huntington 905
    Sayville 848
    Rocky Point 810
    Shoreham 701
Mt. Sinai 649 (1 away from being B)

  288. slacrosse says:

    John FANagan,

OK and keep up your efforts.

  289. slacrosse says:

    Joe,

Thanx for the numbers. Assume that covers grades 9-12??

Just want to go “apples to apples” with the numbers put out by LI Lax. His #’s are for grades 9-11 but you can just estimate for what grade 12 would add and then compare the #’s.

  290. 4TownD says:

I wasn’t going to check out the blogs today, but here I am and I have to admit…I miss it already

  291. LI Lax says:

all those numbers should be the same numbers, they are the numbers that the state uses to decide classes. I believe that they are grades 9-11 enrollment (which would make sense to me because I know the enrollment of Northport, and the one that is posted is about 3/4 of that).

  292. sec1 says:

Yorktown Class size 1971 seinor 355 freshman 475 they have been over 1600 in the 70s. Town has played Boys Latin, Langdon, Dulaney, McDoungh and others.

  293. THE CROP says:

Well, take this as sort of a farewell from the creator of The Crop. Gotta give huge thanks to Joe L and my main man Cuse for creating the website and always adding new things, it’s been a blast and the site is only growing. I now go on to graduate in acouple weeks and will leave the second generation of The Crop to my buddy who is actually John FANagan on the blogs..however, i will take the name “THE CROP” with me forever. The Crop of 2009, and the Yorktown sports teams of 2009 will be hard to match, if you put this years class into two words it would be athletic and wild..which basically seperates the teams from The Crop. I’m not sure how i feel about the crop’s performance next year without my grade, i’m very skeptical that the crop may end next year..but i’ve been told i am wrong. With football getting the farthest its been in years and was one play from section finals, and the same for the bball team almost making the miracle on wood against mount vernon, its been a blast.

Yorktown Lax had a phenom year and played the game it’s supposed to be played, the season ended alittle earlier then we all wanted but they made everyone in the stands proud. It was a pleasure watching my friends for 4 years. I knew i did my job when after i told the lax team this, they responded with a huge thanks of their own to us for all the support and how it got them through close games.

Well thats it, I cant say i’ll be a huge townie for the rest of my life and go to all the Yorktown games, but I’ll def be around to watch some of Kev’s senior year..i can only hope i come back in 10 years and “THE CROP” banner is still on the wall above the bleachers in the gym, with kids going crazy underneath it.

    favorite chants:
    This is Our House
Left, Right, Left Right (Whenever a player is walking to bench after commiting a foul)
You Cant Stop him (Keith Thomas for bbal,, Ranagan and KI)
BOOOOOO(when opposing teams best player gets the ball)
Make Bird Noises at opposing teams second best player gets the ball
    Joe-Lom-Bardi clap clap clapclapclap
    Isaac-Cass clap clap clapclapclap
my personal fav- Where are you Cuse?
You Wear Purple ( we all know whos that for)

Everyone have a good life, keep those feet moving

  294. jade says:

the crop let down the entire town community, we had no fans in middletown that why we lost.

  295. GreenWhite says:

CROP … NOOOOOO!!! Say it ain’t so. I know your a senior moving on to college and all but I hope you still come by and blog. I love reading your thoughts as well as all those great cheers at the games.

  296. Syracuse says:

CROP isn’t going anywhere. Trust me. This site is like your favorite vice. It’s addictive and every time you say no more, no more, you find yourself doing double what you did before.

We won’t hear from CROP this summer or fall and maybe well into the winter, but I’m sure come late February or early March he will once again re-appear to make this board even better.

And if by some miracle you don’t return, please keep the e-mails coming with updates on your life going forward. You’re probably my favorite guy on the board, always adding some spice and positivity to the conversation.

John FANagan, get to know the CUSE. CROP and I have had many the conversation off the board. You must pick up that mantle as well. 🙂

  297. THE CROP says:

Oh no doubt i’ll definitly pop in and out on the blogs, i may go into some hibernation, but you know i cant resist once preseason rolls around. Cuse, you my boy, you know that, we share the same passion of love and hate. Always keepin me on my toes and laughing. Off the board conversations have been great, ill shoot you some in the next couple months of course. Keep doing what you do, and everyone..hes not bias, he just knows yorktown runs the show around these parts.

well its 1 35 so Good morning, and in case I don’t see ya, good afternoon, good evening, and good night

  298. VUTNAM PALLEY says:

    Joe,
any truth to the story Rye is moving to “B” next year.
Seeing how small PV is how about showing some love to the valley, for how far the program has come in just 7 years.
    2 trips to state-semi’s

  299. Joe Lombardi says:

    CROP –

Great job. It’s been a pleasure having you share your thoughts and insights here. With your creativity and intellect, there is no doubt you will be moving on to big things both in college and beyond. Definitely keep coming by though – and post whenever you can. We will have lots going on. As you know with lax, most of the big news/recruit commitments, etc. comes from June through February.

    VUT PALL –

Nothing is yet definitive. I will be posting info on class structure for next year in the coming days.

  300. 10598 says:

To The Crop…Long Live The Crop!!!

  301. jade says:

no for lacrosse 2010 Rye numbers are 646

  302. Isaac says:

    -Crop

For Town’s sake, I hope your brethren can carry on the tradition.

For your sake, I hope you are headed to an SEC school.

    Now, the ultimate question . . .

What was “The Crop’s” most impressive performance this year?

The County Center — and it isn’t even close.

  303. THE CROP says:

Isaac, its the county center no doubt..craziest thing i have ever been apart of..it was almost funny how mount vernon was thrown off by us..it was so loud in that gym anytime they had the ball, it was awesome..it was so easy to see, especially on the foul line..they shot horribly and part of it had to be our chant which i cant put it to writing because of the weird noise we make. Best part is not all of the crop fit behind that one basket so like 30 kids sat up top which made 2 sections of the crop in effect. We are still bitter about that game, that game is ours and the miracle was completed if one or two plays go the other way..same thing with the OT football game in football against ossining..almost could have had football, bball, and lax all winning sections. I was just talking to the assistant coaches acouple days ago and said it was without a doubt like a huge college basketball game atmosphere.

I only rock in the Big East, not the SEC

thats my second farewell speech…gotta respond to my man isaac

  304. YTDad says:

Since football season then on through basketball and finally lacrosse season it has been a great pleasure watching the athlete’s in yorktown, and the crazy bunch in The Crop do what they do best. I have never seen such passion and noise at a local low scale high school game, it was great. And when the game was on a big stage such as playoffs or prime time game, it was just incredible what The Crop did. I may have alittle bias cause i’ve watched this grade grow up from when they were little YAC players, but i think it will be hard for any future grade to top the athete’s of this year. I hope The Crop lives on for years and years, you guys were amazing this year, i’ve never seen anything like it. Crop 2009, The Inaugural Season.
