    Predictions: Saint Anthony’s vs Wilton

Did I read that last Wilton score correctly?
Twenty Seven to Zero — Why would a coach allow that?
Today might be different, I like the Friars by one or two.

    Delbatron vs Chaminade

Flyer’s take a long quiet bus ride back from New Jersey.
    Green Wave by three.

  2. James says:

    Pilgrim –

    Here’s the story (admittedly secondhand):

Wilton leads Central 14-0 in the third quarter. A Central defenseman lights up Jack Krueger – a junior Wilton attackman – after the whistle. Complete cheap shot. Krueger is carted off the field and taken to the hospital (he’s out for the season.) In the ensuing minutes, the Warriors go berserk and tally thirteen goals. At the start of the fourth quarter, Wiseman finally reins in his boys and gets them to play possession ball.

If that story is accurate, I think the score is justified (and a far more appropriate way of seeking revenge than another cheap shot.)

Final today Fox Lane 11-Clarkstown South 6

  4. Joe Lombardi says:

    NCAA quarterfinal final from Hofstra:

    Syracuse 11, Maryland 6

Next up today: Princeton vs, Cornell

  5. syracuse says:

I am hearing that Pelham beat White Plains today. I think it was in OT or a very close final score. I’ll try to find out. UPDATE: Pelham beat WP 10-9 in 2 OTs.

  6. Joe Lombardi says:

New Fairfield, which has not lost since the 2007 postseason, beat Weston 17-11.

  7. James says:

Per Laxpower, Staples stuns Greenwich, 6-4.

A great win for Paul McNulty, who became a convenient scapegoat for Wilton parents through the years (it was a hell of a lot easier to win state championships when there were three legitimate teams in the state) and was dismissed last year. Greenwich has looked shockingly bad this year – dodged bullets against McMahon and Amity – and it looks like the wheels have fallen off since the Ridgefield game.

All of those nailbiters-turned-blowouts due to fourth quarter collapses have likely dinged team morale, too.

  8. syracuse says:

    James,

Good point about McNulty. He’s a classy man. I used to write about his teams back in the mid-1990s when he was firmly entrenched over at Wilton. Staples being decent is good for the FCIAC. Next year there may be six really good teams, which would probably be the case for the first time in the history of the conference.

  9. re:lax says:

Wow on the Greenwich score. Definitely a surprise. Anyone heard anything from Wilton-Holy Tony’s or Nade-Delby?

  10. Ex Lax says:

    St Ant wins 19-10

  11. Joe Lombardi says:

    Final: Cornell 6, Princeton 4

  12. Joe Lombardi says:

Todd Heritage has scored three goals and Cheshire leads Somers 4-2 after one.

After some sloppy play to start out, Somers coach Lew Janavey briefly benched his starting defense and goaltender after calling a timeout just 57 seconds into the game.

Erik Pfiffner and Greg Petre scored for Somers.

  13. Joe Lombardi says:

We’re tied 8-8 at the half. After Somers stormed back to take an 8-7 lead on a goal by Greg Petre with 1:07 remaining, Cheshire tied it when Heritage scored his fourth goal with seven seconds left. Marasco has three goals and one assist.

  14. Joe Lombardi says:

Erik Pfiffner scores 55 seconds into the third to break the tie. Colin Tullgren follows with his second goal a minute later. Somers now leads 10-8.

  15. Joe Lombardi says:

Somers leads Cheshire 11-9 after three quarters.

  16. Joe Lombardi says:

Somers wins 15-9, outscoring the Rams 7-1 in the second half. Somers is 11-4. Cheshire is 10-3.

Final stat leaders for Somers: Marasco 4-2, Pfiffner 3-1, Petre 2-2, Tullgren 2-1, Haas 2-1. Longo 14 saves.

For Cheshire: Heritage: 4-0, Devine 1-2, Nick Carisio 1-1.

  17. RedGray says:

Nice win Somers. That’s what I’m talking bout. Nice intensity after the shaky start. MVP of the day has to be Mike Debellis for his sick PA announcing.

  18. Laximus says:

Kudos to Fox Lane’s Luke Robinson for outplaying “AA Lock” Luke Haggerty in big 11-5 Foxes win.

  19. Yo says:

Does anyone have the score for Greeley Vs. Rye?

  20. jack says:

    laximuis
both sean day and gellion were out for south hag’s had 27 saves on 38 shots
don’t know what luke r had on him but it wasn’t even close to that.so don’t flatter youself he did not out play hag’s

  21. gdlax says:

    Rye 9 Greeley 7 Final

  22. ripo says:

Chaminade (NY) 13, Delbarton (NJ) 2

    Mahopac 0 Guilderland 11

  23. LAX says:

Wow, what happened with Delbarton? Doesn’t look like the team that beat Georgetown Prep and went to 2ot with St. Anthony’s.

  24. syracuse says:

Watch out for Guilderland. That’s all I’m going to say.

Many of us just assume Yorktown-West Islip or Yorktown-Ward Mleville is going to be the state semifinal. Last I checked Guilderland beat both Lakeland/Panas and Mahopac worse than Yorktown did.

It would be foolish to look any further than the next game.

  25. LAX says:

And in B of course there’s Niskayuna. A Niskayuna-Corning East final is very possible, both undefeated nationally ranked teams.

  26. Iceman says:

    Syracuse,

What’s up in section III? What do the seeding/ playoffs look like in CNY?

  27. Wood Stick War Club says:

Rye shuts down Greeley. With Greeley winning 6-2 in the 2nd, Rye storms back and wins 8-6. With Greeley scoring 1 goal in the 2nd half. Excellent all around game for the Garnets. Don’t look past this Rye team…

  28. casual observer says:

    Joe,
with both Iona Prep and RCDS winning yesterday, it appears that they will meet up on monday at 4:30 @IP what are your thoguhts about this one? im sure it will be in your top 5 but im just looking for a little sneak peak. hahaha c’mon joe give me something that will help me sleep better about this one as an alum of prep.

  29. Joe Lombardi says:

    CO –

Good to hear from you. Haven’t seen you around as much this season, but hopefully you are gearing uip for a strong finish.

This should be a great game. As you know, IP has five D-I bound players (Nick Trizano/Drexel, Michael O’Hagan/Marist, Gus Guido/Hartford. Myles Gillespie/Holy Cross and Pete DeSalvo/Fairfield). But RCDS has two legit stars as well in J.P. Garry (Dartmouth) and Cody Levine (Cornell).

Both RCDS and IP lost close games to Rye. I really think this will be a 1-2 goal game either way.

  30. BigBadBear says:

    Joe:

Sorry to be the one to tell you, but your Dayton Flyers lost to the St. Thomas Tommies, 16 -11 in the MCLA D2 game ( I do believe Dayton had to play a freshman goalie, their starter tore his ACL). And Michigan completed it’s second straight undefeated season, beating Chapman 12 -11, in a game they were trailing into the second half. Michigan has three former Section 1 players that I know of on the squad. Here’s the MCLA link for those interested.

  31. Joe Lombardi says:

    Bear – Nooooo!!!

Well, you broke it to me delicately so thanks. Great run for the Flyers.

Congrats to Michigan – MCLA Division I champs.

Local players on the team are Yorktown’s Jamie Goldberg, Pleasantville’s Michael Bartomiolo, Briarcliff Manor’s Matt Levy, Massapequa’s Kevin Zorovich and Greenwich’s Paul Hegeman.

  32. lax says:

luke r did not outplay luke h in any way shape or form, luke r hardly had any shots on him south was missing their solid face off guy who also is a key part of their offense and sean day who is a major part of their offense as well, south played way too much defense becuase their O could not hold the ball

  33. casual observer says:

yea its been a busy spring and just not as much time to watch prep as much as in the past but I will be there on monday and its looking good for wed. do u have a location for that game? and while your at it is there going to be a CHSAA state championship like last year between IP and holy trinity of LI?
as for your breakdown on monday’s game thats a great point about both teams having strong firepower on offense but ill take IP’s D shutting down two studs as opposed to RCDS’s shutting down 5.

  34. laxidaisicle says:

being told as i typw that delbarton suspended 14 players for game against chaminade. apparently they were at a party the night before. smart move fellas! summit now #1 in nj

  35. lax_the_sax says:

a dozen or so delbarton players suspended for partying nite before chaminade

  36. Black and Gold says:

St Anthonys put on a clinic on Saturday at Wilton, it was 10-2 at halftime. A totally different team than in the beginning of the year that had to play Chaminade and Yorktown on one day rest. They are peaking at the right time, and should be ready to make some noise in the Catholic Finals next Tuesday at Mitchel Park…………………….
