Hey guys,

Every Sunday I will post some scores from the weekend that we think you will be interested in. Of course, I’m not going to post everything, but feel free to add in any scores you want.

As usual, we encourage you to offer your comments on everything.

Big week ahead of us. Now things will begin to get interesting.

Here’s a look back at this past weekend:

Bethpage 13, Friends Academy 9

Hewlett 16, Valley Stream Central 0

Homer 15, Jamesville-DeWitt 10

Manhasset 13, South Side 3

Massapequa 11, Long Beach 4

North Rockland 8, Tappan Zee 6

Sachem North 11, Syosset 10

Smithtown West 9, Farmingdale 8

Suffern 6, Nanuet 4

William Floyd 17, Babylon 10

Thoughts: Syosset is in trouble. I don’t think they’ll be anywhere near the upper half of the rankings in the LaxLessons Top 25 if they keep this up. … Just keep an eye on Hewlett. … Suffern starts season with nice win over good Class C school in Section 1. … North Rockland starts off nicely as well, with Yorktown looming. … Homer is an often overlooked upstate small school. JD is always in the mix, so that’s a nice win for Homer. … In my opinion, the usual suspects among the smaller schools on Long Island — Garden City and South Side — may not be close to what they have been in previous years. If you ask me, Class B on L.I. is wide open. … In fact, I think the Class C powers on the Island — Manhasset, Cold Spring Harbor and Mount Sinai may have more to offer than anyone in Class B down there. … Is Smithtown West for real? They have played Melville tough in past years, but do they have what it takes to mess with mighty West Islip? Probably not, but they are definitely a team to watch.

I’m having difficulty with accessing the MaxPreps site through this site. I can’t see any rosters, etc.

I’m a section 1 fan and I’m spoiled by the MaxPreps and Journal News site from last year when Joe was still at the JN. Since the JN is no longer offering that site as part of their degraded local sports coverage I’m looking forward to Max Preps being updated here.

Are the coaches cooperating and sending in rosters and scores?

  2. Lion says:

    Hey Joe forget it.

It was my Pop-up blocker that was preventing Max Preps from fully showing. Fixed it.

Mt. Sinai is also an unknown. The Chapmans, who “moved in” for last season have exited.

The Suffern-Nanuet score in your post is incorrect. It was 6 – 4.

Joe – regarding your comment “Is Smithtown West for real? They have played Melville tough in past years, but do they have what it takes to mess with mighty West Islip?”, SW moved down to sec11 B this year, therefore WI and WM not on ’09 schedule.

  6. roygbiv says:

keep an eye on Bay Shore in Suffolk Co. (Class A) They may not have what it takes to get past WI, but they have one of the best attack tandems on LI in Sweeney and Motschwiller (sp)

  7. syracuse says:

I got confused between Smithtown West and East. Honest mistake.

  8. syracuse says:

As for Suffern, you know who to blame.

Where are the Chapmans this year? anywhere?
