Hi folks –

Just  touched down at West Point a few minutes ago for tonight’s men’s college showdown between Hofstra (4-1), which is sixth in the latest USILA poll, and Army (5-3), which is tied for 20th. It’s Hudson Valley Lacrosse Night here at West Point.

There was quite a contingent of Yorktown fans tailgating in the main parking lot at Michie Stadium as I headed in. In case you’re just joining us, three former ‘Huskers — senior attackman Tommy Dooley, senior defenseman Pat Watson and junior midfielder Tom Interlicchio — play for the Pride. Somers’ Matt Marasco is a sophomore defenseman for Army. There are also quite a few Long Islanders between the two teams, who were will mention as we go along.

Right now I’m enjoying the beautiful view from high atop Michie Stadium overlooking the banks of the Hudson.

Tonight’s game will be broadcast live on ESPNU, and you can get scoring updates right here.

Halftime:

Update 7: It’s tied at 2-2 as we have ourselves a real low-scoring defensive struggle. (That’s sort of repetitive isn’t it? I mean are there ever high-scoring defensive struggles?) Anyway, the YAC  fourth-, fifth- and sixth-grade teams have just taken the field and are running some plays under the direction of Dan Kaiser.

End first quarter:

Update 4: Army leads 2-1. The Black Knights could be up by a couple more by freshman netminder Andrew Gvozden came up with some big saves. By the way, while you folks are awaiting the updates (which will be in the main body of this post — not as comments), check out this blog by Hofstra player Brian Schneider from Inside Lacrosse. My old friend Jim Sheehan, the sports information director at Hofstra, just alerted me to it while we were chatting here in the press box.

Schneider does a one-on-one interview with Tommy Dooley (which is pretty interesting) and reveals what books several Hofstra players, including Tom Interlicchio, are reading these days. You can also find out what nickname teammates have for Interlicchio. Good stuff.
