Teams from throughout the region will be joining together for a good cause from 9 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 30.

That’s when the eighth annual Sticks for Soldiers Classic will be held at Fairfield Ludlowe High School’s Taft Field in Fairfield, Conn.

4597994734_288x135There are boys varsity, boys JV and girls varsity divisions. You can access the schedule here.

Games will be played in a 7-on-7 format, with each team playing a minimum of three games. Girls games will be played in an 8-on-8 format.

All proceeds will benefit U.S. Army Captain Benjamin Harrow and U.S. Army Specialist Sean Pesce.

A Brooklyn native and 2005 West Point graduate, Harrow, a Special Forces Green Beret, was a four-year letterman with Army lacrosse. Leading a patrol while on his second tour in Afghanistan in May 2012, he stepped on an IED, resulting in amputation of both of his legs above the knee and  severe damage to his right arm. He has earned three Bronze stars and a Purple Heart.

A West Haven, Conn., native, Pesce enlisted into the Army after graduating from West Haven High School. He was wounded with small arms fire in an engagement  with Afghan  rebels in October, 2012, sustaining major injuries through his abdomen and losing his spleen, a kidney, and suffering a shattered vertebrae that also damaged his spinal cord. He has no feeling below the waist.

More than $250,000 has been raised since the event’s inception in 2006.
