Sachem North has seen its number of senior college committed players reach eight.

The Flaming Arrows’ latest 2014 verbal was made by defender Paul La Francesca, who has committed to the admissions process at SUNY Maritime, a decision first reported when it was made on Nov. 1 by Joe Lombardi on LaxLessons.com’s Lacrosse Insider premium coverage section.

“Paul really came on at the end of last spring,” Flaming Arrows head coach Jason Mauro said. “He plays with an edge and really worked on his stick to get him on the field towards the end of last spring. He has been working hard to earn himself playing time in the spring of 2014.”

The 5-foot-8, 160-pound La Francesca is a righty who is known for his hustle and aggressive style of play. You can watch his highlight reel here.

recruiting_updateNow, here’s a Q&A with Paul on his commitment.

What were the main factors in your decision?
Maritime is a great school for my field of study, which is electric engineering.

What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
I visited Pfieffer University in North Carolina and I was also interested in Tampa, Wingate and Pace

What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?
I would describe my style of play very aggressive and I always give 100 percent effort on the field.

What area of your game do you need to work on?
I need to work on my weak hand.

How did you get introduced to lacrosse and what other sports have you played?
I played football and wrestled since I was a little kid but I started lacrosse when I was in fourth grade. My best friend’s dad, Coach McCoy, was my first coach and I want to thank him for giving me the chance to join the sport of lacrosse and become the athlete I am today.

What travel team do you play on what showcase events did you participate in?
For the summer my high school team stays together and we play against all the elite teams and we play well every year

Any final thoughts?
I want to thank Coach Mauro, (Assistant/Offensive Coordinator) Coach (Paul) Benway, (Assistant/Defensive Coordinator) Coach (John) Lang and the rest of the (Sachem North) coaching staff for helping out me and all the other Sachem lacrosse players.

I would also like to thank my parents for everything they have done to support me. Special thanks to Coach Mauro for all the help in the recruiting process.
