If you thought the end of the National Letter of Intent Fall Early Signing Period would result in a pause in recruiting commitments, think again.

Starting early this morning and continuing through the afternoon, we learned of more new verbal commitments, including one involving one of the nation’s top sophomores, attackman Brian Cannon of Northport, who picked North Carolina.

Be sure to check back for more.

While we bring you word of the latest commits on our “Updated recruiting review and commitment rundown,” we continue to profile seniors who put their names on the dotted lines this past week.

Next up is Nick Strano, who says he realized a Division I career was awaiting him more than a year ago when his email inbox was full after colleges were first allowed to officially contact him Sept. 1 of his junior year.

Strano is one of three seniors from Rocky Point who signed NLIs. He is staying close to home and will play at Manhattan College.

The 6-foot, 175-pound righty midfielder is known for his stick skills, quickness and dodging ability.

Now, here’s a Q&A with Nick on his commitment:

What were the main factors in your decision?
After talking to Coach Mac (Jaspers Head Coach Tim McIntee) and visiting the school, I realized that Manhattan was a perfect fit for me academically and for lacrosse.

What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
I mainly considered Hartford, Sacred Heart and Fairfield, but I was also looking at other schools in the Northeast.

What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?
I’m quick and a strong dodger. I like to play both sides of the ball.

What areas of your game do you think you need to improve on?
Scoring percentage.

When did you first realize you had the potential to play at the college level?
When my inbox was full.

What were some of the big summer showcase events you’ve competed in the last couple of years and how did you do at them?
I played well in Top 205, Champ Camp, Hotbeds and a few others last year.  This summer I played on the east team for the Brine National Lacrosse Classic.  I played for the Metro Bulls at Gait Cup. We won the championship game and I made the all-star team.
