We have our third sophomore commitment from the nation’s No. 1 lacrosse hotbed, the Hudson Valley/Long Island/Connecticut region, gang.

If you checked out our “Updated recruiting review and commitment rundown” this morning, you learned that John Jay defenseman Jack Lambert has just given a verbal commitment to the University of North Carolina.

Lambert joins a pair of Johns Hopkins recruits — fellow defenseman Trevor Koelsch of Yorktown and goaltender Ryan Feit of Syosset — as Class of 2013 commits.

The 6-foot, 170-pound Lambert, who had a breakout freshman season as a starter for the Indians last spring before enjoying an outstanding summer for the Prime Time travel program, narrowed his choices to UNC and Virginia.

Excellent choice. Congrats Jack! So much for those who wrote on this blog that he was a lock for Syracuse.

Jack will be exciting to watch this year. A super fast athlete with midfielder-like stick skills. In fact if Jack wanted to play midfield he probably would have been highly recruited there as well. Hard to believe he has 3 years left in HS. He will be needed this year as the Indians graduated two starters at close defense.

Congrats Jack! Excellent choice! I can’t believe how early they commit… but still, I can’t wait to see you at UNC! They sure have an excellent program there with a bright future considering all the young talent they are getting. Great athlete, very skilled, full package.

Has anyone heard if Nick Mariano from Ytown commited to JHU?

Firstly, congrats to Jack. Really good school and lax program. Plaudits to him that he’s been recognized for his ability/potential by an elite lax program.

From a strictly general stand-point the NCAA HAS to firm up their threats to stop schools from soliciting any type of commitment from kids until the summer after their Junior yr. Kids will be older, a bit more experienced and mature, more exposed to other programs, and therefore more “equipped” to make choices.

You would think so, and here is why…

Last year Schurr showed up in January – he now has been coaching them on system for a year.

7 returning poles – 5 of them committed to play in college.

Mix good coaching and good players and it usually turns out all right!

Great player…stood out last year on a great team as a Frosh, not easy to do, congrats kiddo… thoughts on the next class of 2013 commit? Thought on who is the best Soph in Section 1 at each position? Loaded question of course as I have my own opinions, but would like to get a consensus.
