Before we take a look at the updated playoff schedule, a quick word about yesterday’s big games and an overview of what’s on tap for today (Wednesday/5.26.10).

Front and center, the Greenwich Cardinals.

First-year head coach Scott Bulkley, a former Darien star who was an assistant coach with the Blue Wave during their run of five straight state titles, has helped engineer one of the major, developing stories in the Hudson Valley/Long Island/Connecticut region this season.

Last night, Bulkley’s Cardinals stunned his former Darien team 8-7 in the FCIAC semifinals. Greenwich, the No. 5 seed, will play No. 3 New Canaan in the FCIAC championship game on Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Brien McMahon High School in Norwalk.

Less than a week ago, Darien beat Greenwich 9-2.

Greenwich defeated the defending FCIAC champ Ridgefield 8-5 in the semifinals after losing to the Tigers 16-9 in the regular season.

Quite a story — and the latest evidence of the parity that has swept through all levels of lacrosse.

In addition to some big wins yesterday, there was a noteworthy, record-breaking performances and a big milestone.

As you learned right here yesterday in real-time updates, Yorktown senior Hopkins-bound senior attackman Kevin Interlicchio (pictured at left) scored five goals in the Huskers’ 16-6 win against Wappingers to shatter the all-time school goal-scoring record of 178 held by former Syracuse University star and current MSG Network analyst Paul Carcaterra. Interlicchio now has 179 goals for his four-year varsity career.

White Plains’ Ryan McGhee ended his varsity career by becoming the first player in school history to hit the career 200-point mark in a 17-7 loss to Mahopac.

Now, before we look at the updated playoff schedule for the Hudson Valley/Long Island/Connecticut region, here’s a look at what’s on tap for today.

Rye Country Day and Hackley meet for the NYSAIS Championship in a battle of 17-win teams today at Randall’s Island Field #10. RCDS is 17-2 and Hackley is 17-3.

Today in Long Island, top-seeded Wantagh faces No. 5 Lynbrook in a 3:30 p.m. Section 8 Class B semifinal at Hofstra. At 6 p.m., top-seeded Manhasset faces No. 5 Seaford in a semifinal at Hofstra. 1. Cards Lax says:

What is going on with section I seeding criteria? They need to take serious look at it in the off seaon.

Greenwich had a ton of injuries to start the season and are still missing their starting goalie. They start two seniors plus their faceoff guy, four other seniors get playing time otherwise they’re all underclassmen. Two Mahopac guys round off the coaching staff at Greenwich as well.

  2. BigBadBear says:

what I think is at least a bit weird, is that in several cases, the lower seed, would be considered the favorite by most (Rye, Jay, Put Valley) and I think Brewster a very live “dog” against Somers….has there ever been a 10 seed to advance to the semis?. even Suffern is live, depending on which Y’town team shows up

  3. Old Rugger says:

BBB all those teams except Suffern are the old power league teams, who would have thought.

No Style points – I agree win is a win, but thought HG’s harder schedule would have given them the edge in a close game against O, did not think either team was going to win big.
NC’s gotta be favorites but lets go Cards.

  4. Lax4Fun says:

    Joe,

Where is the sec 1 Finals this year.

  5. LI Lax says:

I think Wantagh-Lynbrook is today, isn’t it Joe?

Anyway, Nassau predictions for all the semifinals

    A: Farmingdale 9, Syosset 6…Hicksville 8, Pequa 7

    B: GC 9, Division 7…Wantagh 14, Lynbrook 9

    C: Set 14, Seaford 5…CSH 7, Friends 4

  6. kr says:

Joe – you might want to double check, i believe Wantagh vs Lynbrook is today (Wednesday) at 3:30pm not Thursday.
