Brian Prunty was familiar with Siena College long before he ever stepped foot on campus for an unofficial visit.

The Lakeland/Panas (N.Y.) junior attackman also knew plenty about the Saints’ men’s lacrosse program, including its coaches and players.

After all, one of Siena’s leading players, sophomore midfielder Conor Prunty, is his brother.

That played a role in Prunty’s decision to verbally commit to Siena, a development first reported on Thursday on Twitter.com/joe_lombardi.

The 6-foot-3, 200-pound Prunty, a right-hander, uses his size well and is strong with either hand. He has a strong shot, outstanding stick skills and plays with aggressiveness and determination.

Now, here’s a Q&A with Brian on his commitment.recruiting_update

What were the main factors in your decision?
The feel of the campus, the coaching staff, the team and the business school. (Siena Head) Coach (John) Svec is awesome, and it was a great fit.

What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
My final two were St. John’s and Siena, but I also had interest in Fairfield, Loyola and Colgate.

How big a factor is the fact Conor plays at Siena and your familiarity with Siena as a result of that in your decision?
Conor being there was a factor because I knew what the school was really like. He loves it and has a great group of friends, so I knew it would be a good fit.

What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?
I feel one of my strengths is that I’m able to use both hands well. My playing style is aggressive, but I try to to stay smart and get everyone involved.

What areas of your game have you been working to improve on?
Getting a quicker release on my shot.

Who have been some of the biggest influences on you during your development as a player?
Jack Doherty, who graduated from Lakeland in 2009. I always looked to play like him. Conor and my dad (Peter) have helped a lot in my development as well as Lakeland/Panas (Head) Coach (Jim) Lindsay and (Assistant) Coach (Matt) Garcia.

What travel team did you play on and what were some of the big showcase events you participated in last summer?
I played on Coach Lindsay’s Lakeland/Panas team and attended Maverik Showtime.
