rnawrockiWith National Letter of Intent Fall Signing Week lasting through this Wednesday, Nov. 20, the Class of 2014 is front and center in the news right now.

But let’s skip ahead to the Class of 2016 right now.

Providence College is now on the board when it comes to tristate sophomore commits.

Hauppauge High School (N.Y.) midfielder Ryan Nawrocki is the Friars’ very first sophomore verbal, a decision first reported by Joe Lombardi on LaxLessons.com’s Lacrosse Insider premium coverage section.

The 6-foot, 160-pound righty is an adept dodger with strong field vision.

What were the main factors in your decision?
The main factors in my decision were the coaching staff, facilities and academics. (Providence Head) Coach (Chris) Gabrielli made me feel very welcome, he is dedicated to this program and the school is committed as well.

What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
I visited Maryland, Ohio, Binghamton, Brown, Fairfield, Hofstra and Stony Brook.

What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?
My strengths are my dodging, my quickness and my ability see the field.

What area of your game do you need to work on?
I need to work on my physical strength.

How did you get introduced to lacrosse and what other sports have you played?
I started playing lacrosse in first grade on my brothers third grade team. I also play basketball and football.

What travel team do you play on what showcase events did you participate in?
I play for Team Long Island. I was selected for Jake Reed’s Fall Select and Showtime for the summer 2014.

Any final thoughts?
I would like to thank my lacrosse trainer, Dan Achatz, my high school coach, Jim Konen, and my travel coach, Tom McGrath. Together, they all made me a better player.
