Bryant University’s Division I program has been making strides under coach Mike Pressler, the former Wilton High School (Conn.) standout and Duke University coach.

The Bulldogs’ number of tristate Class of 2014 commits has now hit five.

The latest came from Glen Rock High School (N.J.) midfielder Jake Pellegrino, as reported by Joe Lombardi earlier this week on LaxLessons.com’s Lacrosse Insider premium coverage section.

The 5-foot-10, 170-pound Pellgrino is equally strong with either hand, has good quickness and field vision.

recruiting_updateNow, here’s a Q&A with Jake on his commitment.

What were the main factors in your decision?
Coach Pressler had a huge influence in my decision because of how loyal he is to his players and what he is trying to do with the program. His style of play is ideal for my skill set. He’s a great coach and just a great guy.

Bryant’s lacrosse program is growing and becoming a D-I threat very quickly.

The campus is beautiful and the school is a business school which works for my interest in studying business. The lacrosse facilities are great, the size was right, and it just fit.

What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
I considered Bryant, Stoney Brook, Merrimack, Holy Cross, Saint Joes, High Point, Salisbury and Cabrini. I visited were Bryant, Merrimack, Holy Cross, Saint Joes, High Point, Salisbury, and Cabrini.

What area of your game do you need to work on?
I could work on my faceoffs more.

How did you get introduced to lacrosse and what other sports have you played?
My nextdoor neighbor introduced it to me when I was in third grade. I played football until I was in sixth grade, wrestled from fourth to ninth grade, started soccer freshman year and still play, and I have played lacrosse since third grade.

What travel team do you play on what showcase events did you participate in?
I have been playing with Patriot Elite since eighth grade. I have playing in Blue Chip 225 and many more with my travel team that were all pretty much showcases.

Any final thoughts?
My neighbor was a big part of my lacrosse career by starting me off.

My parents always bought all my stuff and took me all over the east coach to these tournaments.
