The sixth annual battle for the “Reg’s Rock” between Long Island powers Chaminade and Manhasset is a a lot more than a game.

LL_Game-Day-CROPPED16The event is a tribute to the memory of former Chaminade High School and Duke University standout Jimmy Regan, a Manhasset native an Army sergeant who died in 2007 while on combat patrol in Iraq.

You can watch the 11 a.m. game live from Manhasset on MSG Varsity Channel 14 (Optimum) and MSGVarsity.com.

Yorktown and Bronxville, both two-time New York state semifinalists, meet in a 7 p.m. game at Yorktown’s Charlie Murphy Field. Unbeaten Bronxville, coming off a win over two-time New Jersey Tournament of Champions winner Bridgewater-Raritan, hopes to defeat Yorktown for the first time in school history.

In a NJ vs. LI clash, Ridgewood plays at West Islip at 1:30 p.m. You can watch it live on MSGVarsity.com.

The zone defense introduced by national power Summit, which quickly produced a New Jersey record 68-game win streak, will be the main storyline at Tiger Hollow Stadium in Ridgefield, Conn. That’s because Ridgefield coach Roy Colsey adopted that same defense right after losing to the Hilltoppers in the 2011 regular season. All Ridgefield did was go on to win the 2011 state title.

The teams’ third straight annual meeting is set for 1 p.m. today at Tiger Hollow. You can watch it Sunday, April 21 at 4 p.m. on MSG Varsity Channel 14.

John Jay and Wilton renew a rivalry that began in the 1980s under the founding coaches for both programs — Bob Kear and Guy Whitten — at 7 p.m. at Fujitani Field. You can watch it live on MSGVarsity.com.

In an interstate battle of national powers, defending Connecticut Class M state champ Darien plays Niskayuna at Union College’s Bailey Field at 7 p.m.

Greenwich, which is unbeaten since a season-opening setback to Ridgefield, plays a CT vs. NY match at 4 p.m. vs. Lakeland/Panas at Walter Panas.

In other CT vs. NY battles, Weston visits North Rockland at 1 p.m. and East Islip plays New Milford at 1:30 p.m. at Cheshire High School.

In an intersectional game, Mamaroneck (Section 1) hosts Minisink Valley (Section 9) at 3 p.m. in a matchup of defending Class A sectional champions.

Connecticut powers New Canaan and visiting St. Joseph’s-Trumbull meet at 1:30 p.m. at Dunning Stadium.

In the prep ranks, Choate (Conn.) plays at Deerfield Academy (Mass.), Lawrenceville (N.J.) hosts Phillips Andover (Mass.) and Tabor Academy (Mass.) visits Avon Old Farms (Conn.).

Upstate New York action includes Penn Yan (N.Y.) at Carthage (N.Y.).

Hunterdon Central, fresh off a win over two-time New Jersey Tournament of Champions winner Bridgewater-Raritan, hosts Immaculata at 10 a.m. Mountain Lakes hosts Glen Ridge, St. Joseph’s-Metuchen visits Seton Hall Prep at 11 a.m., and Bridgewater-Raritan hosts Montgomery at 1 p.m.

How can the author of the article say “both 2x semifinalist” with a straight face??? Bville 2xs ever, Yorktown 2xs in a row like 33xs overall. No comparison.

    • rlaxfamily says:

This was the best blog of the day! Thank you for putting into words what made me laugh when reading the article above. The media was certainly trying to make/hope the Ytown Bxville game would be more than what it was. Yorktown looks to be high above the others in the Section and I guess thats old news, the same news. The media will have plenty to report as Yorktown starts down the tough path of Darien, Chaminade and St. Anthonys.

    Halftime: Yorktown 5, Bronxville 2

    • LaxLessons.com says:

      12-3 Yorktown after three.

      • Tip the Hat says:

Have to give big shout out to YTown. Putting a beat down on Bronxville. Nice job YTown! Your obviously the beast of section 1. I hope you can get off the island this year.

  28. LaxLessons.com says:

Halftime: Wilton 4, John Jay 3. Senior midfielder Michael Burns has three goals for Wilton. Three different JJ goal scorers.

    • LaxLessons.com says:

        • LaxLessons.com says:

John Jay holds on for.a 10-6 win over Wilton in the teams’ first meeting since 1999.

          • Indian J says:

Jay had only beaten Wilton twice before. 1990 and 1997. Lost in OT in 91. Guy Whittens Wilton teams were a force to be reckoned with and their 95 squad finished 2nd in the U.S.

This is a huge win for John Jay. Nicely done !

  29. ALAX says:

    9-2 YTOWN

  30. aALAX says:

    12-3 YTOWN after 3

  31. aALAX says:

    15-3 YTOWN. FINAL

  32. Indian J says:

Also, nice win for Town. Bronxville learns that reputations are built over time not overnight. The Broncos will turn the other cheek and continue to improve though I’m sure.

    • slacrosse says:

At least this season playing a much harder schedule inc Jay will get them “tough match” ready when they probably face Shoreham Wading River. I wasn’t at game and full credit to Town but I’m thinking Bville has to be able to play better then on Sat?

  33. slacrosse says:

Congrats to Town. Wow, I thought Town would win but didn’t expect anything like this kind of beat-down which has to be very disappointing to Bville.

    • Wow says:

Guess Bronxville ‘stars’ will continue to use the Scarsdale game as their recruiting film this season

      • P&G says:

Couldn’t agree more….I think people, players, and programs underestimate what it takes to play at the level that Yorktown and John Jay do year in and year out.

  34. slacrosse says:

Quality win for Jay over a good Wilton team.

  35. Always around says:

Well I guess that Chip got Knocked off someone shoulder. The level is still far apart. Shouldn’t make quotes in the paper.

  36. LaxLessons.com says:

    Final: Niskayuna 14, Darien 9

    • Lax Novice says:

Wow, 14 against. Monday’s practice will be intense. Congrats to Niskayuna.

    • LaxLessons.com says:

      Darien 2-4-0-3 – 9

      Nisky Goalie Saves:
      Evan quinn. 11

      Records:
      Darien 3-2
      Nisky. 2-1

      • Indian J says:

        Look at that 3rd quarter.

        • South of 287 says:

Must have been a heck of a speech or more likely adjustments to find holes in the zone. If you are not used to playing against it, takes patience.

Nisky for real, has top line O talent – always had good coaching, now has some horses up front.

    • slacrosse says:

Nisky has to be among the group of main contenders for the NYS Class A crown!

      • Lax Novice says:

I believe Niskayuna is in Class B. Yorktown better be really good or they won’t even get to the Island, never mind go further.

        • slacrosse says:

Thx. I forgot they switched and agree they will be a handful to say the least for the Section 1 Class B winner

      • Old Rugger says:

slacrosse, I believe Nisky has moved to B, so section 1 B winner has a smaller chance of seeing the Island Champ as they must play them

  37. LaxLessons.com says:

Recapping some scores from tonight’s action: John Jay beats Wilton 10-6 in the first NY/CT “Border Battle” meeting between the teams since 1999; Niskayuna downs Darien 14-9 in another NY/CT showdown; Yorktown deals previously unbeaten Bronxville a 15-3 loss in a matchup of two-time New York state semifinalists.

Among the highlights from earlier today: Ridgefield (CT) beats Summit (NJ) 7-6 on a goal by Cal Dearth with four seconds left in regulation; Shoreham-Wading River (NY) 8, Comsewogue (NY) 7, OT; Weston (CT) 6, North Rockland (NY) 5, 3 OT; Chaminade (NY) 10, Manhasset (NY) 3; West Islip (NY) 11, Ridgewood (NJ) 8.

  38. WestLax says:

    Power Rankings Section 1 4/14/13
    1. Yorktown – No Brainer
    2. John Jay – Huge win vs. Wilton
    3. Arlington – Continues to beat old foes
    4. Mamaroneck – I know Pac beat them but I think they make A finals
    5. Somers – playing a tough early schedule will help in B playoffs
    6. Bronxville – Got undressed at Murphy Field
    7. Mahopac – beat Mamo then lose to Arlington
    8. Rye – Undefeated but only one quality win, play Greely 3X ??
    9. Suffern – Loss big to CBA (Albany) need more quality wins
    10. Lakeland/Panas – Hanging by a thread to #10
Watch list: North Rockland, Hen Hud (w/o Ledwin they have nothing), Brewster

    • South of 287 says:

Agree for most part, but would keep Bville up in top 3 or 4 – seems like Town again class of Section, more depth AND talent then any other team with strong FOGO and D should be in every game v quality foes. Interested in seeing Darien game as Blue are ‘down’ from prior years, but have O punch.

Arlington may be this years’ Mamo – still have Somers, Brewster and Town on slate, but other than that, not much. Playing New Ro, but not Mamo. That should be changed in coming seasons.

Class A Playoffs should be a dog fight.

      • KingOne says:

Arlington should have been last years Mamo.Lost the mojo after the suffern game last season. Won’t happen this year I hope????????

    • Sailors Fan says:

Westy, must respectfully disagree in one respect. It’s a team game and Hen Hud has plenty of quality players. Sailors as a TEAM will surprise a few before this season ends.

  39. Lax Novice says:

    http://www.stamfordadvocate.com/sports/article/Darien-boys-lacrosse-falls-to-Niskayuna-14-9-4432794.php

Here’s an article from the Albany Times-Union that appears in today’s Stamford Advocate. Notably the 14 that the Silver Swords put up against the Wave is less than their season average thus far.
